  • There are still modifications I want to do on my Mini R59 JCW. Lohen gave me the keys to perhaps two of the most sorted modified Minis in the UK. Penny and Dori.
    Have I don'e the right thing ordering a GP3 or should I just buy an F56 JCW and mod the hell out of it ?!

    I owned an F57 Works 210 and that had a Stage 1 Map that took it to 280bhp, didn't need to change intercooler, brakes, diff or anything else... it was already fitted with the Adaptive Suspension System.... I even kept the JCW remote exhaust, it always ran like a dream, no issues after 3 years of daily road use and track use.... it was a beast!

    Great video as always, a true pro! Love the F56, being a bit biased as I own the F56 JCW Auto. I see no issue with the F56 and I am a lover of the R56 (especially it's dimensions and rawness) and a previous owner of a 1979 MINI 1275GT! The auto box in the F56 JCW is one of the best, fast, responsive and smooth and great when your stuck in city driving like I usually am. As for involvement, of course its not going to be the same as manual box, but the Auto does not remove you from the true fun factor which the Mini has to offer, its just a different way to change gears using the paddles on the steering wheel, some would say an updated way. What happens when all cars in future have no gears, I am talking about the electric kind?. I just wished they fitted alloy paddles instead of the plastic ones, as the feel of the alloy is more tactile in my humble opinion. If the GP3 comes as an auto, I don't think you will be disappointed as you will be focusing on driving the thing and keeping below the speed limited whilst having a massive grin on your face!

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 5 lety +1

      Always wanted a 1275GT as a kid growing up ! My Audi S4 is an auto and great fun to drive, however I still think a Mini needs to be a manual. My gut feel says the GP3 will be an auto and if it is I'm sure it will still be AWESOME !

Your passion for cars shows through so much so I just think more types of cars would help. I love your mini content though because I'm a fan of them but you reviewing and doing content on other vehicles would be great. I know you do other vehicles but maybe even just more, You seem like a seasoned auto journalist to me an absolute pro but love how your not all stiff and wooden you get genuinely excited about the cars and that's what makes it entertaining to watch,. Keep it up! Huge fan! Oh by the way if you can get your hands on one would love to see you drive and give your thoughts on a porsche 944 turbo. That would be awesome.

    When I went out in the latest F56 JCW for a day, the one thing I did note from my older R56 Mini Cooper S was the utter composure but still sharp handling from the standard suspension. Surely getting a Lohen uprated suspension system would negate Mini's own brilliant system for the new models. If Lohen "tune" the F56!? I can't recall.
    Maybe it's an age thing, but even with my current Mini, I find it a tad too crashy on some roads while the F56... Sigh! It was sublime.

    • @lohenmini

My car pops like a drive by shooting and shoots flames out the back. Hmm, after owning two R56 JCW’s, one F56 JCW & a JCW GP2, without a doubt the R56 models were by far the most engaging, the GP2 was in another league. Sadly as you know Peter due to a spinal injury my days of driving a spirited MINI with a manual gearbox were brought to an abrupt end. So to answer your question, only you know in your heart whether you have made the right or wrong decision. If it was me, I’d carry on with Ruby Roadster, get my deposit back & spend it on taking it to the next level ......... but I’m not you.
    Thumbs up for choosing Lohen, they’ll do you proud. My personal experience with main dealers ? They love relieving you of your £££££’s but don’t give much back.

    Hi Peter just a couple of questions. 1 Dori looked the dog's danglers, with just 285bhp did it feel twitchy in the wet because with over 310bhp and only front wheel drive in the GP3 you are going to be compromised by the electronics reigning in the fun. The GP3 needs 4 w d . 2 After driving all 3 versions of mini I can't help thinking you might be tempted to go with a Dori clone or are you still going ahead with the GP3 .Regards Simon.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 5 lety +2

    had seen it, but I think the same as you, the noise is fun for a while, but after that you kind of "grow up" and realize its probably better in a masserati than a mini and really only just annoys others more than anything else. I love a Lotus Exige for the noise, but a mini.... I'd take an electric one if I could at a reasonable price, which they are not :).
    good video, I will speak to them and see what reasonable mods are available for a 57 model to get HP up without ruining fuel economy and without making noises I dont need to frighten dogs with aha.

I suggest you either talk to another dealer or get your dealer to talk to Mini UK and find out what is happening. The 3rd generation wide mouth bass F56 looks bad enough without "Dumbo" ears on it. LOL! Also, I wouldn't recommend a 2nd generation R56 to my worst enemy...especially as an inexpensive car. It had potential, but they put a broken down washing machine Peugeot Citroen (aka PUKEot SHITroen) engine in it which is notoriously bad, and once that goes you're left with a disposable car. The 1st generation R53 is the way to go for a MINI. No other generation looks, handles, or drives like it. It's raw fun and it's a car you can maintain for a lifetime.
