  • Minister Sikorski joins the Atlantic Council to discuss the new Polish government’s priorities and vision for Polish foreign policy and transatlantic relations.
In the two years since Russia’s brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland and the United States have demonstrated steadfast support for Ukraine as it fights for its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Ensuring the defense of Ukraine and Europe’s eastern flank remain key priorities for the new government in Warsaw. Standing at the forefront of the transatlantic response to Russia’s illegitimate war of aggression, Poland’s leadership on foreign policy and security will prove even more consequential.
Against this backdrop, Minister Sikorski joins the Atlantic Council during his visit to the United States to share his perspective on these challenges and to discuss the new government’s priorities and vision for Polish foreign policy and transatlantic relations.

The war in Ukraine started with an 8 year civil war from 2014 to 2022 that killed mostly 14,000 native Russian Ukrainians. Ukraine passed laws to deny their native Russian speakers from speaking their native language in their schools and closed all of their Russian speaking TV stations. That is how major wars are started when there is a break down of Democratic principles and rights.
Plus Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe. So we all know the cause of the war. When you deny people their rights yours will also be compromised. It's common sense. But unfortunately common sense is not that common.

Time is short. Matters are very serious. Dramatic action is urgently required.

And yet Europe including the UK, made excuses for the past 10 years. If only Minister Sikorski so passionately lectured those 20 NATO allies procrastinating for 10 years to met their 2% of GDP commitment as he does America who always met its commitment for all of NATO's 75 year existence by spending at least 6% of GDP.
Speaker Johnson and his Republican led US House of Representatives passed a bill with $61 billion
Where was this European urgency to defeat Putin after Russia's two invasions in 2014? Where was the minister's passionate appeal to President Biden threatening to veto and his Democrat colleagues defeating Speaker Johnson's bill last December?
To borrow a Churchill quote, Europe having exhausted all its options always counts on America to do the right thing and save them from themselves!

One of the big problems is that the Dems keep piggy-backing (as in hiding) expenditure within huge ungainly bills that purport to be something they’re not. The Inflation Reduction Act - for example - had a whole spectrum of massive expenditure on infrastructure projects and did anything but reduce inflation. One bill to solve one issue is the way it should work, surely?

Radek touched an important issue. Poles were looking up to America through the ages. Not only under a communist regime, but earlier too. There were a lot of Polish emigrants in XIX century, after two failed insurrections. America was always here a "shiny beacon on the hill". Lack of detailed historical knowledge may contributed to this, but your ideals of personal freedom, involvement in political processes, free enterprise etc. resonated with millions. Please remember this always when you think that "America bad". People who tasted real authoritarian regimes of the tzars and commisaries choose America. Those values are not dead. Unlike even Poland until recently, America always fulfilled its commitment during NATO's 75 year existence spending 6% of GDP on defense and covering 70% of NATO's expenditures in 2022 according to NATO.
Where was this European zeal to fight Russian aggression after its two invasions and annexations in Ukraine in 2014? The EU had 10 years to ramp up critical ammo and military manufacturing. The EU did not so America must do it.

Ile masz lat służby wojskowej i jakie masz stopnie naukowe w szkole wojskowej?
Did the Polish or EU reaction prevent Russia's invasion & annexation of Donbas, Luhansk and Crimea?
As a US fArmy field grade officer, I served on the two American Commanding Generals' staffs while stationed in Germany, 2014-2017, I suspect I know more than you seem willing to give me credit. I had multiple conversations with other NATO allies Soldiers and military leaders. A Dutch General & French Colonel replied that Ukraine was not Europe's nor NATO's concern when I asked them what America or Europe should do about the two invasions and annexation in Ukraine in 2014. I made three trips to Ukraine, 1994, 2018 and 2021 and have friends still living there. How many years of of military service & military school degrees do you have? How many trips did you make to Ukraine?
Unfortunately, your level of knowledge of American politics is even lower. By calling on Speaker Johnson to pass the supplemental bill with $60 billion in new aid and warning America not to isolate herself, every American clearly understood he was taking sides in a serious American foreign & domestic policies wotj serious consequences for American financial & national security.

It is satisfying to listen to a such well informed, educated and intelligent European politician ! Let us pray that USA will soon overcome so many of our current politicians, especially the megas of GOP , who lack strong moral characters and brings division & chaos in America.

If only Minister Sikorski so passionately lectured those 20 NATO allies procrastinating for 10 years to met their 2% of GDP commitment as he does America who always met its commitment for all of NATO's 75 year existence by spending at least 6% of GDP.
Speaker Johnson and his Republican led US House of Representatives passed a bill with $61 billion in new aid for Ukraine. Before jetting off to that Caribbean vacation, Biden threatened to defeat this bill before the Democrat led US Senate defeated it. As the minister pointed out, President Trump was the first American president to send critical lethal military aid and American military advisors to Ukraine during his presidency. President Biden's idea of supporting Ukraine was offering President Zelensky a plane ride out of Ukraine.
Where was this European urgency to defeat Putin after Russia's two invasions in 2014? Where was the minister's passionate appeal to President Biden threatening to veto and his Democrat colleagues defeating Speaker Johnson's bill last December?
As Thomas Sowell, wisely said, it is hard to discuss facts with anyone enjoying their moral superiority in ignorance.

The husband was Polish and the wife was German, they had met as teenage refugees 25 years previously (very romantic considering history). She spoke perfect English and he spoke often incomprehensible English. And yet, apparently, according to his wife, he spoke German just like a native!

Sikorski's speech is excellent, both formally and in its content. The trouble is that the only case when a country wins the war with speeches is the US. Without muscle, without real path towards putting the economy into war status, is an exercise of rhetoric. Now, it is the moment to act, indeed.

Mr R Sikorsky, Sir. Thank you for your excellent presentation. I happen to share your views on and understanding of Russian brutality, moral bunckrupsy and Mongol-like brutal, primitive psyche. Regrettably there are people here - in the US - and many other countries who even today talk about a "great Russian culture". Thank you Sir for an excellent presentation. It is not obvious but .... by heritage I am German, by birth I am Polish (born in Bydgoszcz/Bromberg) and by choice I am Australian-American. I don't know how to do it but you'd make a great contribution to humanity if you made the US understand how the World works and the role US plays, the way you know it, the way you see it. Thank you Sir.
