The best campervan (in my opinion) : Affinity

  • I am going to name this the best series build campervan that I know - and I think that I have probably seen just about all the campervans available on the European market.
First, I need to explain what I mean by series. I have borrowed this word from languages such as French and German, where it is mass produced. I don't think campervans are mass produced because their quantity is so small so series seems a suitable word as it does not indicate this in English. Obviously a campervan made exclusively to order will always be better and suit the requirements of the buyer more than one bought 'off the shelf'.
The reasons I think it is the best series produced campervan are because of :
    1. the insulation and in particular the double floor,
    2. the rear elevating bed which would allow a bicycle to be placed in the garage - the only side bed campervan that I know of that can do this.
    3. the ingenious bunk beds at the front
    4. overall look and in particular light thanks to the front sloping roof with large panoramic window and second skylight
    5. complete : solar included in the price.
    6. all inclusive price without costly factory options. : on Fiat Ducato EUR75k, on Peugeot Boxer EUR70k.
I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
In my CZcams channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles. Here you will find camper vans and motorhomes from the cheapest camper vans to the most expensive luxury liners, from various companies including Hobby, Hymer, Carthago, Westfalia, Wingamm, La Strada, Clever Vans, Pössl, Bürstner, Niesmann Bischoff, Action Mobil, Reisemobil Manufaktur, Robeta, Trigano, Challenger, EuraMobil, Laika, Forster, Mobilvetta Design, Affinity, Globe Traveller, Benimar, Roller Team, Adria, Tourne, Megamobil, VW, Mercedes, CS, Renault, Ford, Fiat, Carado, Sunlight, Baileys, Chausson, Balcamp, Knaus, Weinsberg and others.
I cover equipment, including 12v electrical equipment and talk a lot about lithium batteries.
I also show some of the places I have visited in Europe in my own motorhome, as well as the places you can stay at! I try to give as much coverage as I can to official campsites and free places which I use for overnighting. Therefore you can find here the aire or stellplatz that you are possibly looking for.

9:29 - Alan, you look so pleased with yourself after assembling that ingenious double bunk bed! Ha, ha! Your expression is priceless! 😊 This bunk bed is a game changer! No one else has one and its absolute genius! What a great find. I have to agree with you, this is the best RV to date.
No, I would not exchange a bed in back for this bunk bed contraption. For one, you cannot make a quick getaway without dissembing the entire thing. I prefer loft beds that you pull down. Not a big fan of rear beds. Use rear for a bathroom and bath for a storage closet.

Nice video Alan, like the ariel shots and music............ Very good to see an innovative layout, like the L shaped kitchen and bathroom looks well finished, as does the rest of the van. Not keen on the front berths (though beautifully engineered) as they look a bit of a faff, and mainly cos they take up a lot of traditional storage space and if I'm not mistaken push the rear seat(s) a lot closer to the swivelled front seats.... little legroom there. Again great to see some new design coming along but for me, a great van for two with the storage areas reclaimed!

Very nice Alan, the bathroom does look a bit short and narrow for me, but that front bunkbed is something else and it just goes to show what you can do with a little bit of thought. A few years ago a bit see a crew cabbed Ford Transit with a luton body on it, it was being used to take very urgent loads all over Europe, and was driven by a husband and wife. in the luton bit above the crew cab it had a full sized width wise double bed and behind the two single front seats it had a small kitchen. So you can get plenty of things in a small space, you just need to think about it.

Great van, it’s a tough call between this and the AS Kingham.

looks great - but is this a Campervan - is the starting point a Panel Van Conversion? Or is it purpose built, and therefore a Motorhome?

Hi Alan. Great video as usual and it is great to see innovation, however, the idea of bunks in the front is a British patent that is selling worldwide. Patented Cabbunk can add two childbeds into any swivel seat campervan in 25 seconds and it leaves the table and chairs usable. £349 and it will retro fit almost all campervans . Isn't that worth shouting about? You are welcome to review it.

That garage/adjustable bed height is a great idea... Should be on more van... Though some ladder would be nice...

    Finally something different

Looks excellent, I love the corner kitchen and the upholstery looks top quality. Also there is no 'tunnel effect' you often get between the rear bed and the front lounge area. I would think the moving ropes under the bed should be covered because they might foul on something you have stored underneath. Imagine a blanket or outdoor clothes or something like that getting caught in the rope pulley when you are lifting the bed. Overall I think it is a brilliant layout but all that metal framework for the front beds looks heavy. What is the payload capacity? The price isn't outrageous, there are many that cost more.

I'm replying to my own earlier comment: at 2:18 it looks as if the sink doesn't hold any water. If that is one of those where the water runs away down the drain as soon as it hits the sink, that rules out the vehicle as unuseable unless you are permanently plumbed into a hot water supply and a cold water supply. I have seen those sinks on even quality German makes. They are ridiculous, you haven't got an unlimited water supply in a camper.
