THESE - are STADIUM TRUCKS! - and they’re absolutely mental. The racing series where 650 horsepower, V8-powered trucks race around circuits, cornering on three wheels and flying over these INSANE jumps.
And if you’re thinking - this looks like a recipe for disaster - you’re kinda right…
But - this also seems to be the recipe for INCREDIBLE racing. Watch this!

The qualifying rules also add excitement to the series. The grid is in reverse order from the qualifying results. To incentivize qualifying well, every overtake from your starting position gets you 1 point. So for maximum points you need to qualify in 1st, start in last, and fight your way to finish P1. So the best drivers are fighting through the field every race. It's a really enjoyable series!

The 3-wheel setup is done to improve traction of the powered rear axle and make oversteer controllable. Similar setup was widely used in 70s and early 80s rear wheel drive rally cars, especially such with with live axle or limited steering angle. Oversteering was achieved more by agressive throw of the car into a corner at speed which would normally send it straight on and off the road.

I saw these live at the IndyCar race in Nashville. The entertainment level is super high, and it is an amazing spectacle. Another reason for the competition cautions is to cool off the tires. Those off road tires aren't made to deal with the level of heat that builds up during the race. This keeps them from having to change tires in the race, again reducing costs.

Quick tips : lift before a jump and hammer the throttle as you go up the ramp. You have to force a weight transfer to the rear to counter-act the tendency of the truck to nose-dive, and stay level in the air as a result.

I watched them at the Nashville IndyCar race. We were probably 20ft from one of the ramps. It was crazy. Mostly, everybody just giggled with excitement. Also the way they lean on those long travel suspensions is definitely unusual.

I really love the methods to keep money from being the winner in this series, it reminds me a lot of the competetive rifle shooting here where only 1 rifle is allowed and sold by the parent organisation of the shooting clubs & sponsors are not allowed either!

That looks like an everyone wins day at the track. Drivers have a right giggle racing in rentals, and the spectators see a great race.

These are awesome to watch (ton of races on yt) - they might not be fastest but they are quicker than one would believe is possible with the way they look.

I actually got to see these trucks race at road america in 2019, I watched a truck crash, after making contact with another truck midair, do a barrel roll, and keep going right in front of me, and still went on to win the race

Sim racing in stadium trucks is now on this weekend's agenda. Looks like a fun way to break my wrists with my 25nm wheelbase.

Sometimes the pair the race weekend with Indy street circuits so you’re watching stadium trucks at 10am, and at 2 you see Indy qualifying, a wild contrast in every aspect
