If ur talking about slums u can guest, most of that are near tondo, but you must know that there are more upscale business cities in manila including: Ortigas, Makati and BGC...... • @stevem437
      @stevem437 Před 22 dny +1

@@GLEZERO-kz8ye No, I think you’re the one who needs to check their ignorance. Manila is literally the densest city in the world. Four of the world’s top 10 densest cities are located in Metro Manila. This is due to the massive amounts of poverty and people living on top of one another. These smaller pockets within the city (I live in BGC) are a SMALL example of the population here. Are you Filipino? Have you ever left the country? The poverty here is shocking. Tons of people living in homes that do not even close and protect from the elements. This is not normal in the vast majority of the rest of the world.
Do I live in a nice area? Sure. But all I need to do is walk to the border of BGC to see kids with no shoes, who aren’t in school, begging for money. Focusing on only the nice parts of Manila is an absolute slap in the face to those people. It paints a terribly skewed picture. There is a reason most Filipinos leave this country as soon as they are able.

PHL is no longer a Spanish colony. We achieved independence almost a century ago. And since then we have promulgated new laws that redefine our geography. "Manila" today is no longer the same "Manila" ages ago. "Manila" today refers only to the capital city. Danny dissing BGC got instant wrath retribution (the rain) from the BGC deities. LOL just kidding.
I understand that coming from the west, BGC may look very similar to most North American cities, thus it may not have that authentic local appeal as compared to Makati which have more elements of Filipino/Local culture.
But I think people should start to realize that all future developments would be more like of a BGC, because the locals prefer that direction. BGC has now become the defacto blueprint of new districts being built around the Philippines. It's very common to hear commercial and government developers to tag their developments in pipeline as "The New BGC of the North", "The New BGC of the South", and all other taglines that tries to replicate BGC. Rarely or never you'd encounter "we are building the next Makati".

We really enjoyed BGC when we visited, but it couldn't compare to the more local vibe we had whilst staying in Sampaloc. We had such a great time getting involved with the locals, watching some top tier basketball, and eating the street food. We'd take that most days over BGC to be honest! 😊😊

Answers to some of your questions and confusions:
9:34 The line is usually called Line 3 or the MRT 3
15:45 That is the Rockwell Center right beside Poblacion. Some of the most expensive apartments and condos in the Philippines are situated there.
25:50 Zambales is a 2-hour drive north of Manila. Known for mangoes and fine grey beaches.
30:51 They are playing Padel, a tennis-like Mexican sport similar to squash.
33:12 That is Glorietta Mall. Same developer as that of Greenbelt.
39:25 There's an R logo inside the Starbucks so it's a Starbucks Reserve indeed.
43:39 That's the Ayala Museum. Some of Southeast Asia's oldest precolonial ceramics and gold jewelry are housed there.
43:59 Part of Makati's charm is that the buildings are a mix of styles from different decades. Asia's first highrises are still standing in Makati, a testament to the Philippines' past as Asia's richest country after Japan.
44:37 Brutalism. Very 60's cold war style.
52:04 That's the reconstructed Mandarin Oriental Manila Hotel opening soon.
54:43 Salcedo Village is the unofficial he name of the block of buildings right across Ayala Avenue. Bel Air is the legal name of the administrative area (Barangay) where Salcedo Village is a component of. It also covers a residential area right beside Poblacion.
1:05:34 The residential area is THE Bel Air residential area
1:12:37 BGC is almost as big as the Makati CBD. But BGC sits on a flat rectangular grid, whereas Makati has curved streets. Your vantage view of Makati in New World Hotel also includes the Ortigas skyline in the distant background, hence why Makati may have felt bigger than it is.
1:28:44 the W Center in the Philippines is not a hotel. More of an office and business center.
1:31:47 BGC is a destination for many people; hence the festive recreational vibe
1:46:49 BGC feels smaller because it's easier to "see" where the developments end in BGC due to of the straight grids. BGC's skyscrapers are designed to be concentrated on the sides of the grid. They really planned the center part to be devoid of high buildings. Unlike in Makati where highrises are densely packed NYC-style, with small parks per area.
1:50:40 Foreigners have been told to avoid Manila, hence why you don't see alot of foreigners.
1:53:57 Karyoka is a fried snack made from rice flour with brown sugar and caramel. Really good
1:59:33 You should have tried the palabok as well.
2:08:29 The delicacy is called Sapin-sapin made of rice flour coconuts ube and sometimes jackfruit
2:15:05 Don Roman Santos building. Built in 1894 and was spared from the WW2 Bombing of Manila; it was an American Red Cross facility.
2:16:00 Escolta Street was the Philippines' first Central Business District. Some of the Asia's oldest examples of Beaux Arts structures are in Escolta.
    2:17:12 Fried quail egg stand
2:18:35 There are 182 ethnic groups in the PH. In addition, pre-colonial migration from Taiwan, Malay Peninsula, China, India, and Polynesia have all contributed to different appearances.
    2:27:26 Giving Melbourne CBD vibes
3:19:13 Corinthian Gardens Subdivision, one of the Philippines' most expensive villages. Hence why the houses look impressive.
3:22:02 Not Makati. That's the Greenhills district and Araneta City.
3:30:32 They turned the upper floors of Citadines into residential units during the pandemic. a 1BR unit (exact copy of your room) sold for 15 million PHP in 2021. Might be more pricey now.
3:36:23 Those are the 540-kilometer Sierra Madre mountain range, the longest mountain range in the Philippines. Popular for its "sea of clouds" destinations.

Stayed at Serena-2, went to BGC, Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Tagatay, malls-Market-Market, Green Belt, Glorietta, SM, Divisoria, Tutuban & the flee markets. Love the food there & desserts, really missing PI…. Also visited, Bali, Hong Kong, Indonesia. Japan .. move to USA, in 2014, been to Wa State, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, living now in California … originally from Guam (USA) 🏝️… oh you should see the new project in Manila another development like top of the line city looking like Jetson Space city …
