Not really a scam, but if you book a tour where a driver takes you around to different tourist sites, double check if your tour rate includes entry to those places you're visiting or if you need to pay for it yourself.

Good tips Jaycation. I liked getting the fake jerseys and shirts. And good advice on not getting fake shoes since that could actually hurt your feet.. Also, I never thought about the drinks and how it could get spiked. Very valuable information all around. Although if the food looked good and the vendor may not be licensed. I might just take a chance. Lol. But I can say that you at least warned us😁Glad you have safe travels in 🇵🇭

There are two more scams at airports in the Philippines that i know of, and 2 others in the streets:
    1. When you have your bags at the x-ray, a guy will steal your bag as it comes out of the x-ray machine, if you're not looking, and quickly walk away. Airport cameras will suddenly not work, or will take a week before they are shown to you.
    2. Tanim-Bala. Airport officials will put/plant a bullet in your bag, and flag you. They'll arrest you and ask you for alot of money to let you go free and not go to jail for carrying bullets that they have planted.
    3. There are cops that will plant a packet of meth inside your car when you open the window (they'll just chuck it in). And they'll inspect your car and find that packet of meth that they put inside your car, and ask for a lot of money in exchange for letting you go.
    4. Kidnapping cases for rich foreigners and businessmen spike up months before elections.. i'm not saying that corrupt officials kidnap rich foreigners and businessmen to extort money from them so that the corrupt officials have money to run for elections, but yeah :) Also, RCBC Massacre, when corrupt officials send their goons to rob a bank so that they have money to burn for elections :)

Service charges in restaurants are not rip-offs. A lot of restaurants here in the Philippines do not give the whole service charge to the servers and some do not give it at all. Food here is really cheap compared to the US, tipping a little bit like $2-3 won’t hurt. :)

Scan 12 - From my experience, never give money to beggars, no matter who they are. Most of the time beggars work for crimanal operations, the poor never get to keep it. It is OK to buy them food if they say their hungry though. One time on the last night there I used the last of my pesos to buy a women with a little boy a meal. Am sure they won't take that burger 🍔 back to the crooks they deal with.

I didn't know this until a few years back but using and saying the word "gyp" is a racial derogatory slur.
Took me a while to remove it from my vocabulary like other words but I did.
Is that being PC? Yes. Does that mean society is getting soft. No. It just means we're all being more aware or aka woke. And id rather be woke then asleep.
I'm sure you didn't know, like i didn't know and I'm sure you don't want to offend anyone.

Money money money, money money money.
Almost all these blogs end up discussing money. Her, family, friends, allowance, etc.
When you get married and settle down half is hers. So why discuss it.
You should be asking her if you can buy a new bike. It's "your" both of the $$.
After "money" the second most used word is "give". The real activity should be "share", not "give"
Yes I'm jealous. Wish I had same thing after loosing wife when I was 67 and in great shape. 82 now with cancer so a little late. Bank account full and nothing to spend it on.
If I had the energy and time left I would spend $10,000 (american) a month to have such a young beautiful girl rubbing my shoulder.
Well, maybe I should give it a go. Can't take it with me!

I've lived here in the Philippines for 13 years and moved from America when I was 35. I have never experienced a problem listed here. Here is what I suggest for foreigners.
Most of all, BE NICE ALWAYS. People will never be rude to you like in the States. Things just are different here so learn to adjust.
Learn there is much more to the Philippines than Manila and tours. Learn to not get angry or control it at lease. Learn to talk quietly and be patient above all. I have been married now in the Philippines for 10 years and we live in rural Bicol (the bondoks) Her family is important to you and how you interact with family and neighbors define your reputation. As a foreigner you should care a lot about your reputation.
So just be good, easy on drinking like an idiot and treat everyone with respect. Remember there is a language difference and be patient of that.
