Synopsis
In this historical epic, the story unfolds around the shogun's criminally insane half-brother, Matsudaira Naritsugu, who is poised to become a senior adviser on the Roju Council of Elders. His heinous deeds drive a top retainer to commit suicide, prompting Roju Councilor Doi to commission Inspector General Shimada Shinzaemon for a covert assassination mission. Shimada assembles a group of 13 warriors and embarks on a perilous quest to eliminate Naritsugu before he reaches Edo, facing his formidable 100-man entourage.

I found this channel accidently, and I woke up, on a cold January, 2O23, at dawn, with a Samauri film playing in the background. I haven't gone back to sleep, and this is third wonderful movie I'm watching. Thanks for these special little masterpieces into the World of Japan in transition, with Ronin, Edo, honour, all up for grabs.
I highly recommend Lone Wolf and Cub, both the TV show and movies are excellent.

Very good for a TV special and it's always nice to see one of Japan's greatest living actors, Tatsuya Nakadai, who is now 90 years old. He worked with the best during his career. I still prefer the original 1963 film starring Chiezo Kataoka as Shinza and Tetsuro Tanba as Doi.
Excellent movie. I really like how opposing Samurai values was portrayed by Shinzaemon and Kito Hanbei---one justice & morality, the other loyalty to his Lord at all cost.
A classic 🤗 finally saw the original 13 assassins.
Tatsuya Nakadai played Shinza. He's the one who led the assassins and one of those who died at the end when they fought by the stream. He was also the star of the series titled "Pinwheel Hamakichi," and he played the restaurant owner in the movie "The Law of Hell," both of which can be seen on this SAMURAI VS NINJA channel. This version of 13 Assassins was made in 1990. Two other versions were made, one in 1963 and one in 2010.
@Zatoichi444 -- Yes. The character he played in Sword of Doom is creepy. I think Tatsuya is the greatest Japanese character actor ever. He's 90 now, and I'd love to just sit and talk with him. He made a movie about the battle of Okinawa. I haven't seen it yet but will soon try to find the movie on DVD.
I totally enjoyed the movie... but did not think I would see proof of time travel in it. The inflatable beach ball is invented in 1938, becoming popular in the 60s... yet, there it was, floating in feudal Japan... just before the final duel... AMAZING!
You don’t seem to be aware of Origami. That inflated ball you see is made of rice paper.
Paper was invented by China way back in the 7th century? Japan got it from there. If you’ve seen their old carry oval type lanterns then this may help.
Some were made from wood pulp too. Goes back hundreds of years. 13th and 14th century.
I believe 13 Assassins is in the 16th century.
@@f430ferrari5 I beg to differ... at 1:30:37 the ball shown is not made of rice paper, it is clearly a "modern day" ball with the inflate port.
@@dilliansoddsandends809 the one at 1:29:26 is an inflatable type that existed long ago. It’s not made of plastic or rubber.

Merci pour ce film . Un groupe de samurai cherche à assassiner un shogun particulièrement cruel et violent. L'acteur qui joue le shogun joue parfaitement son rôle, on lit véritablement de la folie dans son regard. La fin du film offre une bonne leçon de moral, comment on peut à la fois s'opposer à son ennemi et le respecter à la manière d'un samurai. Très bon film.
Classic samurai fighting. Good plot, with an unexpected ending. Great classic Japanese martial arts displayed.
This is a nice little find. I never would ha e imagined the cast involved. Well done.
Saw only the newer version by Takashi Miike and absolutely loved it but it never dawned on me that there was an original ( Foolish me ). Now i get to check it out and I am very grateful for this chance , THANK YOU.
