- I try soldering for the first time. Its scary but it works! I put Wilkinson pickups in a crappy old epiphone in an effort to improve this junker. Please don't judge my guitar playing here I know its bad!

Great video man! I'm getting ready to do this same thing to my epiphone. Thanks for the help!
I just bought one of these to learn on, good to know that later on I can satisfy my tinkering urges to upgrade it!
Loved your video! I’m in the process of modifying an Epiphone Les Paul special 2 I bought off of eBay. Mine is total rebuild, but your video gives me hope.
Good job! It sounds great. Love ur channel
Thank you!
New Subscriber, Youngblood. Congrats on your newfound capabilities.
The neck pickup sounds awesome with distortion 👏👏✌✌🏆🏆🏆🏆🎸🎸🎸🎸
Changing pickups won't help it stay in tune LOL!
Just messin' with ya man. I have an Epiphone melody maker that I bought in a second hand store for $30 a few years ago. It's one that I'm modding to this day. I put locking tuners on it which helped big time. Next is to swap out the humbucker for a P90. The adventure continues. Good luck brother!
✌👽👍🎸🎼🎶🎵⚡
I did this on my Epiphone LSP. I swapped P90's into it and new pots. AN absolute nightmare as all the fittings are not standard I think because of the factory construction.
Anyway, I had to redrill the holes for the pots to get updated ones to fit. The other thing I did was change the bridges and tuners. The tuning holes needed drilling out to accommodate the new tuners.
It's been over a year and I can't bring myself to fix the dodgy wiring I did.
I swear people just buy this guitar to mod it! 😆 Great video! I just bought one of these today!
😂 it’s a fun project! Enjoy the new guitar!
Cool. I have a new one of these and nothing wrong with the pick ups .I ve changed the tuners to drop in Kluson replacements and ditched the bridge for a roller bridge and its a tidy guitar now.
Hey I got the same Epiphone Les Paul, but its a VE(Vintage Edition) I did swap the pickups to EMG H4 and H4A, wiring on this guitar is pretty simple tho, I recommend you use a 60 watt soldering iron, makes your life much easier, cool vid by the way :D
I think the gold looks dope af!! Great job! If you don't mind.... I may have to copy you! Thanks Bro!!
great stuff! U could have a zoombie peeking at u from behind to make fun of ur anxious approach. Great video. I liked both guitars. keep em coming.
Lol thank you!
I'm about to do the same. I've got all new wiring as well as new pickups, new nut and new tunomatic bridge. Ive got high frets, so have a fret file and you know what, I might just sand it down and repaint it as well....maybe change tuners..i don't know. I figure if others can do it, I'm going to be able as well...
Awesomeness! Thanks for the vid. I am doing the same project!
Good luck!!
What tuners will fit this guitar ???PLMK and thanks 👍👍Also any way to get P 90 pickups to fit in this guitar ???
Rock on dude 🔥
Good job, sounds better.
Buddy I promise you in a few years you'll be the handiest guy around. Keep trying new things and don't look back. I taught myself how to work on guitars and still learning to this day.
Sounds pretty good stock in your hands for a “wonky” guitar lol kudos
Use Orange cleaner for the glue or put a pick board on it.
If u are able to play Led Zeppelin out of any piece of wood u done fkn good
Lighter fluid for sticker residue
se le podrá colocar unas pastillas alnicon V?
the Wilkinson pickups are clearly clearer, more articulate than the originals.
Next try adding a push-pull and split your coils.
I'm trying my darndest to put the thing back together again.
I wonder your reasons to mod the guitar. Original pickups are actually good for that price range beginner guitar. Suppose you have a goal in mind for the new sound. Mine stock one is in good shape and needs no mod.
I agree with you, Johannes, but I might swap them anyway. Those Wilkinson pickups are pretty sweet. I will also look into Seymour-Duncan. But there is a chance I will just keep tearing things up with the originals. They're damned-good pickups.
Right.....some people like the stock 700s. Simple pickup covers will take the aggression out them. I personally like the attack
@@BOBANDVEG Pickup covers, you say? Where might these wonderous articles be found?
@@maekong2010 literally anywhere. Ebay for a couple of buck
My main reason for swapping them was to get some practice modding a guitar. The guitar hasn't been taken care of too well and I don't play it much so I figured I could use it as a project guitar. I had the wilkinsons laying around and it seemed like a fun thing to test out.
By the way, your playing isn't bad!
How can I get it to stay in tune? I have that same guitar so I just wanna know.
Me TOO. I think the tuning machines are a problem... for some reason the tension on these guitars is really weird.
Definitely ditch the tuners. I have this guitar and they're great for modding into something nice. If you can, get some good some good 3+3 locking tuners. Before doing that, my special II went out of tune all the time, now it's perfect.
I had the same issue and eventually swapped the original tuners for some Grovers. Make sure to measure the holes first, I messed that up lol. I made a video about it on my channel if you wanna check that out!
@@dirtbirdmusic I couldn't find tuners anywhere that fit the holes so had to drill them out. A massive pain in the arse to do without chipping the paint.
I put new tuning pegs in and it stays in tune now
dirtbird, what amp are you using.
