In Phoenix, there is a person selling MAME arcade 1up's ranging from 750 to 1200 depending on pc and game set included on offer up. I presold mine to my best friend reworked from reset, so a fresh launchbox/big box build for 300, which is what I had monetarily invested. It's an older POS asus that i got for free anyway. So if it takes a dump, he's only vested in the cab conversation.
That’s probably the most reasonable arcade1up mod sale I’ve heard of lol. Most of them put 25,000 games that no one asked for and try and charge thousands for it 🙄😂
Haha! Nice you scored a Midway cabinet. If I lived in a downstairs apartment, I would have at least one real arcade for certain.
They’re probably the perfect cabinet design in my opinion. They’re not that hard to move but hard to fit it in normal homes haha

Awesome! Glad you got your cab. After you talked of this idea, I decided I’m going to go the same route someday if I find a suitable one as I’m very particular and the arcade1up cabs just can’t be made as authentic to my liking. I won’t be combining electronics though: just mame
Nothing beats the real thing! The feel of the cabinets so different too. I honestly can’t go back to 1Ups. I’m not being a snob about it either lol, I’m just not attracted to playing my 1Ups at all now. I am really hoping to tie in the KI 1Up hardware. If not I’ll be forced to keep it.

Ya after getting burned on art too many times for the arcade1up stuff and their being real art out for real cabs and the fact that nobody can do legit art and the buttons over plexi I give up. I found a ki empty for 500 but it sold before I could get it but I’m sure there will be more in the future

I did! I made a profit on the Silver Strike and got a working CRT out of the deal.
Funny how we both have virtually the same project. Former MK2, painted, converted with Max Force Artwork, only mine contains site 4 with spotty firing input. Those triangular plates for the lightgun wiring are going to be a 2" round hole behind them - you can see from the inside. Yours will certainly be done a year before mine!
Definitely save the site 4 pcbs. That game is still unemulated.
Bondo is pretty easy. Its forgiving stuff. And if you make errors you can just sand it back, and then put more bondo right over the top. Good luck with your project.

Yes. It's a U2000. Nice score! Yeah, those errors are classic hard drive failure. Hopefully you got the correct kit. There's one for the single board and one for the double-stack board.
I ordered the single board kit. It would be nice if it works. I’ll set the monitor aside for now but I’m thinking your video on a U2000 “dead” might be my fix.

I don’t think I will. I can’t fit anything else in the Shed-Cade so I’m going probably stick with my original plan of a MAME cabinet.

You should see my operation wolf cab that I'm turning into my new mame cab. Its a basket case but it was free.
Free sounds much better than my price! But yours was probably in worse condition I guess.
Pretty sweet pickup honestly. I'd say it's the perfect candidate. Needs work but not total garbage. You don't have to repair everything about it, but you also have more freedom to do whatever sideart and controls you want without the guilt of destroying anything nice. Knowing it's an MKII cab makes it even better for the authentic Shedcade fighting games. At it's core it's already an MK cab and now you can focus on resurrecting it to whatever you like.
Yeah I agree. It’s what I wanted, a cabinet that I don’t have to butcher like I was going to with the KI2. I’m struggling with changing the side art but I really wanted an MK1 cab. I’m sure I’ll take some hate for that lol.

I restored a mk 1 cab and did bondo for the first time in 2023. It’s not bad. It stinks and wear a mask for sure

why turn that into a mame cab??? find yourself an MK II pcb get an art kit, marquee, and bring that baby back to life, maximum force sucks anyways.
I can’t fit much else in the Shed-Cade so I’m making this one a MAME to cover all I want.
Why a MK Themed MAME Cabinet? You already have standalone MK Cabs. You're never going to play MK on the MAME Cabinet with CRT Arcade Monitor since you will always be changing the Vertical knobs if and when you do. Then have to change them back for the majority of arcade games.
I only have MK4 as a stand alone CRT cab. I’ve never heard of people needing to adjust the monitor for MAME games. Is that an issue you’ve run into?
