  • Florida Governor and U.S. presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has raked in millions of dollars-and even a golf simulator-from wealthy corporate interests. At the same time, he’s stripped protections from renters, let insurance & utility companies hike rates, and cut taxes on the wealthy. Jason Garcia exposes his real record.

    • @yomeyo6622
      @yomeyo6622 Před 8 měsíci +11

@skoop651 The issue here is that you think of it as I'm a Democrate lover, criticizing a Republican, judging by your comment about Democrate states having worse housing inflation than republican states. As if trying to demonstrate that Republicans are better. First, Florida has 2 spots in the top 10 cities with the highest real estate inflation, including Tampa being the highest of the US. Second, the majority of the voters are eating in the palm of politicians of both majority parties (Democrates and Republicans) making people hate on each other, while their candidates only worry about their immediate interest, and how to make it look good on the surface in the short term, regardless of what consequences it could have in the long term. Both party representatives practice insider trading every breakfast with absolutely no consequences at all, while giving speeches to people tailored by marketing strategists. Dems or Reps or whatever party... doesn't matter. If you are fully supporting one side, you are just gullible to one side rather than the other. Every politician we have currently are not looking out for the people, or else we wouldn't have such a constant decline in spending power since the 70s, and the masses seem not even capable to address the real reasons. Too busy being divided and fed with fear.
We are all living in this country the same, we all just want to work, have a purpose, a family, make money, and enjoy life. That's it.

Spot on! I’m in FL, and some of the things these big corporations get away with is mind blowing! The worst thing happening now is housing. That includes buyers, owners, and renters. The so-called “affordable housing” that’s being pushed so hard here is not affordable at all because the management companies are able to get away with raising rent as much and as often as they want to. The rent versus income ratio is minimum 60%. I can’t stand this man. Anyone who votes for him should not be allowed to vote ever again because of a lack of common sense.

I was getting paid $10-12/hour for a physically demanding job and could not afford to live on my own. I was told "If you want to make more money work more hours. You have that right here." If you ask me Florida is a crazy expensive place to live because you get paid less. They use the lie that Florida is cheap to pay people peanuts, and then put the cost of everything on the backs of the working class. It was "All of a sudden" a big deal because that's when it was exposed. Prior to the pandemic people had no clue what teachers were exposing their children to. Once lockdowns started happening and classes were over zoom, parents were able to sit to the side and hear first hand the grooming that was occurring.
Prior to people getting to witness it first hand, the MSM simply lied and said it didn't happen. The lockdowns provided parents with the evidence that they needed, and groups started pushing politicians to act. DeSantis was one of the few non-groomer politicians so he was happy to pass common sense legislation which simply says that there is an age where these things are appropriate to discuss, and that teachers aren't allowed to broach the topic prior.
Not political theater at all. The issue of groomers in this country is one which is far from being resolved.

I’m lucky enough my partner and I own our home because if we had to pay rent compared to a mortgage we would probably be homeless due to the exorbitant cost of living. Several of my friends have lost their homes and apartments due to energy price spikes, hurricane insurance (which is mandatory) price hikes, food prices, fuel to drive 30 min and sit 30 min in traffic. I moved from NJ to FL in April of 2019, just a couple of months after DeSantis was first elected. Things were still okay at the time. Rented a 3/2 house in Brandon for $1,500, gas prices were low, the electrical bill was regularly below $100, and everything overall was either the same or lower in cost vs. NJ.
Fast-forward to 2021, going into 2022, and things were already getting ugly. And, sure, you can partially blame COVID-19 repercussions, but it was noticeably worse in FL. Gas prices, once lower than NJ, were now the same or more expensive. The same properties that were once $1,300 to $1,600 were now $2,000+. Even the place we rented 2-3 years prior was now $2,250. A month with electricity below $200, even if we tried our best to keep consumption low, was rare. Food prices were astronomical, policies put in place were absurd, traffic getting much worse, tolls were everywhere, can't even consider buying a house because prices were through the roof, homeowners insurance skyrocketing, car insurance prices doubled and then some.
It became a nightmare. All for what? Sunshine and warmer weather in the winter?
Moved back to NJ in February of this year. And while I miss the sunshine and warm weather, I now have a son (my 1st child) and I couldn't justify staying there. DeSantis is your typical politician. Rides the wave of keywords, cares about his donors, and screws everyone that's below middle-upper class status.

We've lived in Florida for almost 60 years and can tell you that DeSantis is the worst governor during that time. That's quite an accomplishment considering the last guy (Rick Scott) was an unindicted criminal.
Two of the issues discussed in this video have had an impact on our life. One of them major.
The insurance crisis has caused us to no longer be able to afford our windstorm insurance. In Florida, there are three types of home insurance you usually need. The first is standard home owners. Sometime, your home owners will include windstorm (hurricane) coverage, but for many, it requires a separate policy. For us, windstorm has increased at such a rate that we are no longer able to afford it. So now, we only have basic home owners and flood insurance. We have no protection in case of hurricane.
The second issue is power. We invested in solar power several years ago to control our power costs. A bidirectional meter was installed, and we were compensated for all power our panels delivered to the grid. We were charged a minimum charge daily to cover the cost of grid maintenance. But that changed. The power companies are now allowed to charge two minimum charges, one daily and one monthly. This monthly minimum charge only affect people with solar systems, the amount is higher than the accumulated daily minimum. During sunny months, our panels produce more than we used, so the excess power was banked and used the next month. With the monthly minimum charge, we no longer get credit for some of the banked power. Our bill is just raised to the minimum even though our actual bill is less. In effect, the power company is now allowed to take our excess power.
I'm disappointed the the legislature changed another law, the law that required the governor to resign to run for another office. If Florida law had been followed as it was originally intended, DeSantis would no longer be our governor.

HOWEVER.. now the 'draw' is HIGH DOLLAR horse people... to the detriment of the 'hobby' horse owner or the 'horse-as-pet-and-trail-buddy' horse person. Real estate is astronomical, and is being bought by developers and folks who turn neighborhood residences into weekend or short term rentals.
Add to that.. the stress on our AQUIFERS, which were already stressed enough that salt water intrusion into coastal groundwater/DRINKING WATER suppllies... and sinkholes in areas served by Florida's aquifer.
And rent is astronomical... my friend, who is a teacher, is facing a near-DOUBLING of her rent on a two BR apt in the small town where she teaches.. which happens to have ''picturesque' appeal for tourists and winter visitors.

Florida is an awesome state, it has the nicest state parks in the US, lots of biking infrastructure, the weather is amazing with the exception of hurricanes, there's more diverse wildlife than any other populated area in the US
