Thanks for sharing this video. It is very useful to me. Luckily I did some research first and found this video. I planned to buy a new external drive and found there's alot cheap external drives offered in shopee that is below RM200 and I was thinking it must be a fake one. I have 2 external drives with me till this day, works perfectly fine bought it around RM190++ for 1tb and RM200++ For 2 tb. So I think if the original must be around this range of price RM190+ - RM200+ .

I think I'm also a victim.. I cannot format mine in NTFS. And I cannot open my transferred folder. The P/N is different from the device and the box.
Wonder why so many people still giving 5 stars to the seller. just stupid?
There is also another scammer shop in Shoppee selling fake drives/memory, first the shop names are "malayhome. my", when I complain and ask for refund, they change their name to "bestairpods. my". They have many victims giving 5 star just for receiving the items but never check the drives. Once they rate and click "received", money is given to the seller.
I got this same device from my friend , already suspicious when I see 2 TB label on box , not printed on the box
when I transfer files, it failed, after that it doesn't work anymore
I open the the device and yep, usb thumbstick on inside lol.

What I'm most confused about is how they managed to stuff a 9.5 mm drive into a external enclosure designed for 7 mm drives. In some cases Hitachi drives can have their LBA counts edited back to their original 120 GB capacity, so it will function as intended. If they went to the extent of changing the LBA count, though, I'm surprised they didn't change it to identify as a real Seagate 2 TB, either to reduce suspicion. Due to the S/N still reporting correctly I guess they bought a real 2 TB external, shucked the original, hacked the Hitachi to report 2 TB and put it back in to resell to you. As it turns out, I actually do own the 60 GB version of this very drive, the HTS542560K9SA00; thankfully, that one does tell the truth and functions properly; it was shucked from a Xbox 360 HDD module.
My theory as to why the scammer told you to format with exFAT only (disclaimer, not being someone who knows much about low level filesystem implementation) is that the format process of NTFS requires writing towards the end of the drive... and that would go horribly wrong on this hacked Hitachi. I believe GPT also requires a similar end-of-drive boot sector, and would wonder if the drive would also go belly up when using that partitioning table.
Barely know anything about drive formats and partitioning, so this information is very helpful to me, thank you.

Hi! I had and still have the hard disk which I purchased 3 years ago from Shopee, the exact same thing; Seagate, 2TB. I transferred most of my documents into the disk before it ejected itself, years ago. I can't no longer use the disk, and after a year I found a TikTok video regarding this fake Seagate hard disk. I still keep the disk because I still need to recover the documents I had transferred into it. At the moment of speaking, I have just open the cover of the disk to see it's a Hitachi disk just like yours, EXACTLY LIKE YOURS. My question now is, can I still retrieve the files from the disk, if yes, how can I recover them or retrieve them back? Thanks.
I believe the transferred files will be there. The seller just transferred a smaller capacity hdd and label it as bigger. Plug it in and see if the files still in..
I bought the same and had the excess files corrupted when transferring. is there a possibility to recover data(videos). data transfer was directly from phone to hdd.
U can try but I doubt. In my case the excess files will not transfer over because the fake hdd I had will just hang once reach the true limit. Maybe u have a different one that will still accept the excess files above the true limit n then dissapear?
some got usb drive inside, mine was a 120GB laptop hard disk. anyways since u guys have the casing, you can first get refunded by shopee then use the money to just buy a larger capacity laptop hard disk and put it in, it should work fine with the connectors .

@@sunryosuke yeah me too pressed the received button so released money. That's why I reported to the customer service and also made this video for the report.. And managed to get the amount paid back to me. So try report on app n follow up with email to the customer service team.

I just got scammed with the same product WITH THE SAME exfat to ntfs warning! It's on its way back to the seller however the seller can still refuse the refund. How can I use this video as proof to the Lazada team that what I bought was a fake item?
The tools I used are in the description. U can just screen capture your issue and send it to the reporting team.
So what i did I requested refund from shopee support n got it refunded after a week. Provided this video as evidence. Seller still there. No idea why not banned just item delisted.. Guess we take it as a lesson.
Also used the refunded money to purchase a used laptop hdd that can fit the ext drive and it works. Turned out well tooo hehe

yes, already released because excited at beginning. bodoh betul. but good job to shopee support to help me get it refunded. i refused to deal with seller cus he asked me to changed rating then he refund me. mampus ah penipu

@@deathallure1420 Hi, can you share what documents you shared to Shopee? Because Shopee wont let me refund, due to "quality problem only". Mine was also Seagate expansion 1TB. Scammer have evolved now, crystaldiskinfo won't detect the drive.
@@xxWidex I made this video(to prove that the hdd I received was fake) then I uploaded to CZcams and emailed their customer service for money back.
The ylearnt to delete the system info on the drive now, so it shows up as "VendorCo". I'm in the process of asking for a refund on Shopee. It's really dumb how many 5 star ratings there are on products like this. These people probably never used a proper external HDD before or are transferring really small files.
mine also was fake i guess, it's 1tb it will be read when I plugged it but after minutes error will pop up. It's not detected.

You'll find out it's fake the quickest way by prying it open. Inside there'll be a small flash drive PCB hot glued into the plastic case, beside it a metal block for weight.
In this case, I believe it's a real HDD, but merely a 120 GB one (HTS542512K9SA00). Its LBA count was then increased beyond its natural 120 GB capacity to 2 TB (2 trillion bytes divided by 512). The firmware does allow this, but will lock up the moment you go beyond 120 GB. I've seen this on another faked capacity Hitachi.
The packaging itself was good, but I've got suspicion on it legitimacy when I held it. Masyadong magaan for a 2TB EXT.
That's when I knew it's fake. It'll say 2TB on your PC, but in reality, 200GB of storage is all you've got. And worst part of that is when you add files into it, it will start to corrupt your files when you reach 200GB.

DO not buy Seagate 1TB HDD in shopee.
1TB HDD is Fake. It is only 250GB and failed in sea gate seatool test.
I open the HDD external case and found that harddisk have no sticker and identification.
Hard Disk Model ID is WEOYC25-1T in HDD test.

Assuming a Hitachi drive like this one, a manufacturer-made tool called FTOOL might do just that.

I don't remember but just make sure to buy the original ones from preferred sellers. Shud b around almost 200. Anything less than 100 confirmed to be scam hahaha

yes it is possible but highly unlikely. its just a typical HDD scam which is selling fake stuff. i mean the malware hackers will be scamming some other shit. not open shopee account n go thru all this trouble to infect your pc haha. possible but unlikely.

hi, im currently checking a hard disk i bought online for cheap, its a 1 tera good reviews and I bought it from LAZADA I don't know if shoppee has the same system but when the item is delivered to you don't press "received item" button "if shoppee has that feature or called something else". and videotape yourself opening the parcel every step and test the hard drives integrity/capacity and when something is wrong take a picture of it or videotape it and then ask for a refund with proof to back you up
if i encounter this kind of shop, i will report to malaysia consumer department, email to seagate company for this counterfeit product for them to sue this shop and then ask the shopee to fully refund to me.
i got duped and scammed .... unfortunately, i found this video after receiving the fake product .... sigh ... let the seller have the money to buy his medicine .... too stressful to go tru the hassle ... moral of the story, check the actual market price and cheaper ones are just fakes.
