Haha, thanks man. As noted this was a very unscientific and unplanned test we ran on our way back home after a group ride, but I've got some ideas on ways to show honest comparisons of the two in the future!

Next time I’m in the area I’ll get the grade on my phone. I could never make it up back when I had an XR.
why did the guy riding the vesc in the "drag race" give up? he just started braking and gave up? no heart lol.
Because he reached the point he couldn’t push it or keep up anymore, so he stopped? 🤷♂️
It was torque-tiltback, not braking, I was pushing it until it sagged

I did watch the entire video patiently waiting for hill climbing test, I didn't see it, video should be renamed to Invisible hill climbing test
Huh? The video literally starts on a very steep hill that a normal XR would never make up. I know hills don’t ever look as extreme on video, but come on man..
Looked like a pretty good street hill to me 🤷♂️

@@AlexLepoutre Thank you, I watched the video again, yes you're right it starts from climbing a hill, but to be honest it doesn't look too steep, but like you said the video doesn't do justice, It will be nice to see another rematch test with app screen recording, in that case, we all can see how well the rider on the VESC really pushed his board to the limit.
I do have a VESC as well, and it is a real torque monster, but as I always say, if there is something better than what I have, I'll buy it as well.

Yeah. Some other factors are motor winding ( kV value) , motor efficiency, ESC current delivery and sync with motor, batter current delivery.
The gts s has reduced battery current delivery ( due to architecture to get higher voltage but less capacity) which and impacts low rpm torque. Power is current times voltage, so voltage is just part of thd equation and current is impacted by those other factors. There is actually a really good video demonstrating measured torque on dyno tests comparing floatwheel vs gts. Floatwheel is an 84 volt system ( lower than gts) and best gts for most of the tests.

You need to test a steeper hill. The higher voltage on the GTS means its faster but way less motor amps than VESC. Also I suspect GTS can't start on a steep hill like VESC.
Are you familiar with this particular hill? Do you know the grade?

Oh have you ridden this precise hill yourself? My XR never could made it up this hill. Plus, that’s not the main point of the video, the GT-S pulled up the hill faster than the VESC. Thus why it’s called “gt-s vs vesc”, not “gt-s vs ultra extreme hill” 🙄
That’s not the point. We’re both racing up a hill. It’s not a “who can make it up the hill” contest
