    I agree with you. I thought the way PRX approached comp-building through the lens of strong util combos was genuinely inspiring. It was especially prominent on Bind, with their Reyna + Skye double flashes, Harbor creating gulag pockets for Reyna, even how they adapted Gekko into their comps/play styles.

  • @sjfarias96
    @sjfarias96 Před 6 měsíci +25

    This so good for the game in terms on keeping it from becoming a slug fest where everyone plays reactively. Instead we’re seeing a lot more thinking on the fly and more proactive play, it’s fast but still well thought out.

  • @sjfarias96
    @sjfarias96 Před 6 měsíci +74

    Agreed. Now that the game has been out for awhile and the top players have gotten so close in terms of mechanical skill a team really can’t relay on one star player like they used to. It really is becoming the team game we’ve wanted and not a one man show anymore.

  • @ares6054
    @ares6054 Před 6 měsíci +5

    I think you're right. And to be honest, seeing their Sunset comp from AfreecaTV and them making something play Gekko feels like they prepared really well for the Skye nerfs. Even in 2023 they had CGRS who is a Gekko main so they probably have good ideas of what Gekko is capable of and... their Tokyo run was with Gekko. It really feels like they're looking ahead in terms of meta. They started the Yoru on Bind on the international stage and now everybody else thinks "Wow Yoru is actually really good" and they're running him on multiple maps across the board.

    teams just need to realize that playing to their strengths is way better than playing the meta. Optic ran chamber on every map despite him being mot meta on split, breeze, ascent, and haven. Loud played harbor viper on every map and no one could beat them on it. Fnatic played extremely default heavy comps that couldnt change tempo bc boaster was good at midrounding and they had really aware players that would win a lot of their dry fights. Prx created comps based on their aggression, the fact that jinggg could only play raze, and unusually high apm. If u think these players were just better youre wrong bc fut played kayo on every map bc they didnt have a good skye player and qualified for everything. Zeta put laz on chamber on won lcq. Edg has strats entirely based on attack oping. Even back in the day Drx used breach when no one else did bc they had the best breach in the world prob to this day. JUST PLAY FOR YOUR STRENGTHS GODDAMMIT

    I mean that's how EG were undefeated on fracture, they had sick combinations with their utility and ults

  • @dylanlee496
    @dylanlee496 Před 6 měsíci +4

    I totally agree with the whole “maximize your strengths.” I’ve been trying to tell my friends when we 5 stack that we shouldn’t care abt the things we are bad at, just do what we do well really well. I’m bad at aiming but am pretty aware of how to utilize my util fully. So I stay alive and use my util to provide advantageous fights for my team rather than try to take duels all the time. Some might consider it baiting but I’m just trying to maximize my use. The truth is my aim is so bad that it’s worse for me to try to take duels than to just use util and push last so that my team has my util the whole round.

    • @mqegg
      @mqegg Před 6 měsíci

      yea but if you do want to rank up you have to inprove your aim. theres no use having good util when you cant have a 50/50 fight that is actually 50/50. Hear me out, lets say you brought the odds to 80% in your favour due to your good util, you still have to win the fight.

    • @dylanlee496
      @dylanlee496 Před 6 měsíci

      @@mqegg well yeah, obviously, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that unless I have a stupendous advantage, I will not take a fight unless needed like pushing in with a player disadvantage. I play duelist prob once every blue moon

    @FaIIenSkater91 Před 6 měsíci +5

    Love what ur cookin here but in general I think the philosophy of Duelist Initiator Controller Sentinel and a Flex (who might be initiating or controlling or another duelist) still works with this “focus on util combos” type of thought process, in fact I think structurally it helps make those combos more obvious

      With the Skye nerf I’d expect to see either fade or gekko get a lot of play, they can both gather util, both have “drones”, both have strong util that can debuff/gather intel, and can combo well with good duelists. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see PRX running gekko or fade a lot soon

  • @Cirphlyx
    @Cirphlyx Před 6 měsíci

    sliggy has been singing the praises of reyna for quite some time for this exact reason. there’s ways that you can make use of weird agents if you combo them with others on the fly, which i think is really refreshing because it negates the need for as structured of a game plan as some teams think is needed

    I agree with your analysis and that valorant is trending in that direction at least on the pro level. I just don’t know if I’ll like it in the long term because if players become too reliant on utility, midrounding will get dull quickly once teams get countered or ruin their util executes

  • @xxiguana2353
    @xxiguana2353 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I think it is idyllic in the sense that I can't really see all teams shifting their philosophy away from a more simplistic game however as the years go by and the game evolves, teams will eventually have to change whether they like it or not if they want to remain competitive. Now does that mean a shift towards the philosophy mentioned in the video? Maybe, maybe not. I think there is a high likelihood but who knows.

  • @IsaaaValorant
    @IsaaaValorant Před 6 měsíci +3

    very true, part of the reason valorant is so boring in high ranked compared to unrated is where you get to see this utility combos that work well, but you never get to see in pro play. maybe the casuals have been onto something for a long time 😂. i am tired of sova jett kayo omen cypher/kj. just make a comp that’s good at one thing (beating that comp) then play to its strengths.

    Tbh it will happen at some point, to me the way u are seeing this is giving me a bit of CSGO vibes, where there was a lot of aim at the start of that game but after astralis and the way they revolutionized that game teams started using more utility combos, I think at some point paper rex will be that astralis team, doing absolute combos and dominate and then pro teams will start to combo util more and more

  • @myHuge249
    @myHuge249 Před 6 měsíci

    i think you are right.. but imo its gonna be slow, and only really a thing for the top teams for quite some time.
    Its a more risky way to approach the game, and takes real trust in your team mates to pull off consistently, but yields great rewards if you can pull it off. Weaker teams wont adopt it for a long time because they wont have the coordination to pull it off, plus it reduces the safety afforded by your playbook.

    Hey @thinkingmansValo As a college coach for Valo i've been espousing this exact thing since Lock In last year. I think Fanatic and Mini had an especially good understanding of this. And I think if you watch how Potter coached EG, a lot of her impact and some of the comments she made I think were directly referencing this. I think you have a great call out with how PRX commit to the idea with their entire comp. Where I think you see FNC and EG use very meta comps but design all of their interaction on this idea. I think where you see the development of the game is in the marrying and polishing of these ideas.
    Look at this in comparison to how some CS2 games start. A lot of util thrown at the beginning of the round to define map space, while its not a direct correlation because of the nature of the util I think this idea is the mature evolution of these two concepts coming together. Beyond that when you can start defining the value you can get out of certain combos the economics become even more exploitable. Thanks for all great content man

    not cope at all, i wholly agree. synergy and creativity is going to be the name of the game in the long run. Valorant by nature is a heavily team based tactical shooter, and although people have gotten super good at the shooting part, the team part still has a lot to explore. The division of skills and abilities amongst individual agents is foundational to the game, and the efficient and speedy uniting of those skills and abilities on a team scale is the ultimate advancement.

      That's why, the meta is shifting to util focused. When everyone is mechanically gifted, then no one is. Heck, that's why alecks been forcing something to use Gecko, to train his util usage and cooks up new meta.
