I’m 55 and have always had a full head of thick hair. Because my dad lived to 74 with a full head of hair I assumed I would be like him. But last year I started taking creatine not only as a way to maintain muscle as I aged (I’ve always worked out) but also because of the purported brain benefits. About six weeks into it I was shocked to start seeing my scalp when I got out of the shower. Several weeks later my hair loss became extremely noticeable so I started thinking about what could have changed in my life and the only thing I could think of was the addition of creatine. I stopped taking it and my hair loss has stopped. People swear creatine doesn’t cause hair loss, and it may not in most people but it seemed to cause hair loss for me.

Last year i started taking creatine again and started noticing that my hair trasplant got thinner and thinner, ain't no way trasplanted hair becomes thinner since that hair doesn't have DHT. I read that a small study many years ago reported that some rugby players who took creatine, their dht serum levels spiked. I decide to leave the creatine about 3 months ago and all the lost hair grew back and thicker. The dated study you referenced plainly states a 40% increase in DHT levels after loading. DHT = hairloss correct? Drugs such as finasteride work to decrease DHT levels in the body, and creatine might do the opposites (based on this dated study). If you are going to debunk this study, you should link concrete examples to support your claims. Also put links to the additional studies you mention!

    • @musicmakesmehappy12
      @musicmakesmehappy12 Před 20 dny

I REPEATED THIS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH TWICE! READ THIS!
9 months ago I did DHT tests before and after the creatine and glucose loading phase according to this scientific study:
before creatine loading phase: 495.5 pg/ml, after 7 days: 413.8 pg/ml. The score went down!
Now I repeated the test DHT together with testosterone (T):
      Before loading creatine: DHT - 403.2 pg/ml, Testosterone - 5.29 ng/ml
      After 7 days loading creatine: DHT - 504.6 pg/ml, Testosterone - 6.66 ng/ml
In reaserch study with rugby players, there was a 56% increase in DHT after 7 days, and testosterone did not increase.
In my personal case, my DHT increased by 25% and testosterone proportionally too by 25%, so it is logical that DHT will be higher. As we know from many studies, creatine does not increase testosterone.
The tests I were performed at the same hour.
In two attempts I have already disproved the study linking creatine with an increase in DHT.
My DHT 9 months ago was the same before the loading phase as it was in the second attempt after the loading phase. However, in the second i checked my testosterone. Apparently due to other factors, my testosterone increased, so DHT also increased proportionally, and anyway, the increase in testosterone and DHT was 25%, not 56.
My DHT has been between 400-500 pg/ml in four laboratory test over 9 months, regardless of creatine.

I think based on the comments here and on each video about the subject, it appears evident that creatine accelerates hairloss... For those having the gene of hairloss it greatly enhances it... For those that don't, it doesn't.
    Simple.

Creatine gives you more energy in the cells so it might trick the body into thinking it doesn’t need as much rest fir some . I work out on it so the energy is used up ,2 grams isn’t much so it’s probably genetic or your taking it later in the night ? I sleep easily even on caffeine at times ,taking creatine at night helps muscles recover faster but it might effect ppl differently ?

that is telogen effluvium, a condition caused by stages of high stress to the body let that may be an infection, poor mental state, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, etc. Although the stress needs to be considerable for it to happen. TE is mostly of the times temporal and it fixes itself after your body is not suffering from the stress anymore.

Creatinine is the by product of excess creatine getting broken down , some suggests it’s bad for the liver but I’ve been on it since 1994 and have never experienced any organ problems , creatinine high levels is supposedly not good but I don’t really believe that ,I still cycle it anyway every couple months ,creatine stays in the body a month after you stop .

Been taking creatine on and off for 12 years. Nothing happened to my hair, I also didn't gain any hair. The DHT increase from creatine is very small, so if you really get hairloss from creatine, you are ultra sensitive to DHT. You would probably be balding at an early age (30-40y old), just not AS early as with creatine. Thank your parents :)
