    Dear CrashCourse, thank you so so so much. I have just been accepted to study biology, my biggest passion, in the University of Helsinki, and in some ways it's thanks to you. This year there was an entrance exam of five essays and one of them was about nefrons and how the body regulates their functioning and I believe that mostly because i had just watched your videos about kidneys and hormones and the nervous system, I freaking aced it. I hope that you see this and can feel my enermous gratitude for helping me get in to university so that in a few years I can become a researcher and save the planet. I'll thank you again in my Nobel victory speech.

    • @RusticKey
      @RusticKey Před 9 lety +1

      Life without the boring parts Hypothyroidism has the exact opposite symptoms of hyperthyroidism, because basically, your body's metabolism is slowing down, and _down_, and *_down_*. You're also probably sensitive to cold and have abnormal weight gain, as well as several other such as dry skin, stiff muscles and a weak heart at this point if you do have hypothyroidism.
      Though remember that's not the _only_ cause, probably you're just chronically fatigued. Hypothyroidism causes unexplained tiredness even when you're mostly not doing anything.

      +Gemma Hipkin Hypothyroidism is a symptom of thyroid cancer, but can also be caused by other things. It's simply an under active thyroid.

      +Priya Edwin No, hyper-thyroidism is too much activity in the thyroid. Hypo-thyroidism, in +feitocomfruta's case, is too little activity in the thyroid.

    A minor correction: Glucose component parts are not used to produce ATP. Instead, the energy released by breaking down glucose is used to form ATP (from ADP and inorganic phosphate). The glucose components (together with some oxygen) instead end up in carbon dioxide and water. Or if you are out of breath; in lactic acid.

    I have hypothyroidism, been taking medication and getting my blood drawn since I was a few days old, and the type I have is what I like to call the “where’s Waldo” thyroidism. Basically mine is not where it’s supposed to be, it works but because it’s not where it’s supposed to be I have to take medication.
