    Thanks! I'm showing this to students as a medically-relevant example of an enzyme assay!

    Hello, How to prepare the hydrogen peroxide for catalase test? I mean what percent is the Hydrogen Peroxide?
    Thanks

      @MedicalLabLadyGill  Před 4 lety +7

      I am using an over the counter standard 3% Hydrogen peroxide here.

    Catalase is just one enzyme or a group of enzymes? Thanks 😁

      @MedicalLabLadyGill  Před 4 lety +5

      Catalase is one enzyme produce by cells that are exposed to oxygen to combat against oxidative stress on the cell.

    thank you. i would like to ask a question about tiny bubbles. if any tiny bubble appears on the slide, is it catalase positive or catalase negative?

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  Před rokem

      Bubbles are positive. They bubbles may become larger if you move the bacteria around after the H202 is introduced.

    If the bacteria has catalase, does it mean it is aerobic ou anaerobic?

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  Před rokem

      Great question! It could be either. Facultatitive anaerobes and aerobic bacteria can be catalase positive.

    So in other words, the strep gets destroyed by the hydrogen peroxide as where catalase in staph breaks down the hydrogen peroxide??

    I am 29 and have white hairs from almost 1,5 year now. If i will do this test and i have catalase that means my white hairs are not due to genetics but other factors?

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill

      This is a test for bacterial cell analysis. I have not heard of the human catalase test. If that is something you're looking for, this is not that test.
