I was just thinking the very same thing. I know I have thoroughly enjoyed the travelogues for both the places I have visited and the ones I have yet to visit.
I remember I met a guy from Minnesota while I was working on a construction project. He told me that Minnesotans took the whole summer off. I said "Wow." He said, "yeah, both days."
This kind of exaggeration needs to stop. We have three full months of bona fide summer often more than that. It's usually in the '80s! May and September are glorious. April and October are highly variable. Sometimes warm, sometimes cold November through March. Not so much. Unless you like winter, which I do.

Minnesota is honestly a hidden gem. Which I'm happy about because people aren't trying to mess with her beauty. We might not have majestic mountains or grand canyons but there is plenty of beautiful scenery, especially in the northern half. FYI, Minnesota has over 11k lakes. 10k lakes is just I guess more catchy. We have over 6k rivers. Even though California is much larger Minnesota actually has more miles of shoreline than California because of water we have. 😊
Fun fact about the MOA, there’s no heating system at all! Even in the winter- the amount of body heat and excess heat from the machines and computers creates so much heat they have to vent the heat out!

When I saw the thumbnail that you went to Minnesota I was so happy! Most European tourists seem to always just go to the coasts and Southern states. The first thing I said when I saw that you came to MN was, “She better have gone to the North Shore!!” And I was so excited to hear you say that you DID! I can’t wait to watch your coming videos of your time there - the North Shore is my FAVORITE place! My husband and I fell in love with it when we went for the first time for our 25th anniversary. We’ve since been back several times and plan to continue for many years. I hope you loved it as much as we do!
@@shawnanderson6313 LOL, well as I said, I grew up only a mile from the border and spent a lot of time in Austin and Rochester for shopping etc while growing up, and spent 2 years in Austin going to college where I met my Minnesotan husband. We lived in MN for 6 years. I’ve never really felt that rivalry towards MN because it’s always been a part of my life and has always felt as much like home as Iowa has. I love MN!
I don’t think you realize how much your videos help those of us who have mobility issues and can’t travel as we wish , I was so very happy that you came to my home state of Tennessee and I continue to looking forward for future videos- you are doing a good thing here actually more than you realize- thank you much I know it can be draining at times

Though I may be Canadian, I've always had a soft spot for Minnesota. It's the state that's closest to where I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It also helps that I still have a few relatives there, and that my mother is from there.🙂 I hope you had yourself a good time in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officially counts 14,380 lakes.

Im so glad you tried the walleye, its my favorite freshwater fish to eat. Im not always a fan of battered fish but that taco really did look good. Im sure you were warned about the mosquitoes up there, theyre notorious for flying off with small animals and children ... 😅 this will be somewhat of an education for me since i have never been to Minnesota, so this will be great to see. I’m sure you had fun on the North Shore. If you didn’t know before I’m sure you realized all the towns with French names going back to the fur trading days (Duluth, Ely, Grand Marais, etc.) Also lol @ Licks Unlimited, I grew up next door in Chanhassen so I would bike there as a kid.
Would you be surprised to learn that despite the fact that our winters often get down to -23C that there's no heating plant in the Mall of America? It relies on the body heat of all the visitors and the sun coming in the skylights of the park to keep it warm. I remember a few times when it got so cold here that they held events to get more people in the mall to help keep it warm. The ducts you see are for air conditioning in the warm months. Hope you enjoyed your time here!

My home state is California. There was a frenzy of mall building during my distant childhood, and almost every one of those malls is now defunct. Nobody needs to be protected from California's winters!
Although we do use it, it is mostly for nightlife or browsing. Everything in that place is marked up and you could go down to a place 5 minutes away and save money lmao. In short... it's a tourist spot and gets people talking about MN.

It's been a while since I was last at Mall of America. It's nice to see that log ride is still there. It was part of it back when the theme park was under its original name, Camp Snoopy. Nice that you saw the red chair where the long home run was hit. There's also a plaque on the floor showing where home plate was located. Long before the mall was built, on that same site was Metropolitan Stadium (or Met Stadium for short). Though it opened in 1956 and was originally used by a minor league baseball team, it was used by the MLB's Minnesota Twins and NFL's Minnesota Vikings from 1961 to 1981, after which both teams moved into a domed stadium in downtown Minneapolis for a while.
My grandpa immigrated from Sweden in his 20s and moved to MN where he had friends. He made a good life and little family here in the U.S. Summers in Minnesota were lovely, except for the mosquitoes!
I'm an old AZ and CA boy. And as much as I hate cold, I have to say that the Minneapolis St. Paul area is great. Most of my MN time has been in Minneapolis and cold or not, it's one of my very favorite cities. If it were warmer and had a beach it would be tied with San Diego at #1.
I've always wanted to visit Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. There are so many people from the region who move from there to here in Arizona, trading the long cold winters for long hot summers, and they always seem polite to a 'T'!

I grew up near the MOA and now live west of Excelsior in another lake town. This state is home, but we love to share and welcome everyone. It's a frozen tundra many months of the year, but you just have to wear the right clothes. Beautiful towns, and friendly people. I hope you had a great time here. I enjoy your other videos as well. I've never lived in Minnesota, but spent some time in Minneapolis when doing some research for a book, and then returned several times with students for a big debate tournament hosted there every year. I loved every visit and have to return.
Minnesotans embrace all 12 months of the year. Yes there is winter, and usually a couple of 3-5 days stretches that you don't go out unless you have to, but it's easy to see why we so embrace our state. Winter is beautiful, but it also makes spring even more exciting. The summers are spectacular and diverse. It can have a stretch of 90 degree days, and then shift to a run of 75 degree days just like that. Everything is so lush. The change over to fall is beautiful, and then you get to start all over waiting for the first snowfall. Contrary to public opinion, we usually don't the that much snow, (45 inches), and when it does it's a fine powdery mix. Glad you made it up here. The Twin Cities are great, Huge in size (a spread out 90 by 75 mile area}, with a population of around 4.million, and with so much to do, eat, etc.. Hopefully you made it to the Minnehaha Falls.and the connecting Chain of Lakes that Minneapolis is known for. While Mpls is more modern, St Paul is old style with some beautiful churches and architecture. You will be back. Trust me.

Hey! You visited my birthplace! Always a Midwestern boy. Born and raised Minnesotan and now living in Wisconsin! And you're lucky! The last time I was at the MOA, they were doing a renovation to the aquarium, and it was closed to the public.
The modern shopping mall was actually invented in Minnesota, and the first ever mall is still open... just 6 miles away from Mall of America! The Southdale Center in Edina opened in 1956 as the first completely enclosed shopping mall in the US. Minnesota invented the mall for a simple reason... it is cold and snowy for most of the year, and it makes shopping more comfortable. The Mall of America took the same concept and expanded it to include the aquarium, amusement park, and other attractions for the same reason. The giant glass ceiling makes it feel like a greenhouse in the winter and allows Minnesotans to enjoy those types of attractions that we'd otherwise only be able to enjoy from about May to September.
@@user-oh2hs6jh5x I grew up in Minnesota. It's snowed on my birthday, May 2, three times in my life. We almost *always* have a snowstorm in April. Growing up, most years on Halloween I had to wear a winter coat under my costume because it was so cold. You are correct... the snow might not stick all year, but are you seriously telling me that anyone in Minnesota would be riding, for example, a log ride in October or April? By late September we're getting frost at night, and highs could very easily be 40s in October. It's also a rare year you get a 70 degree day before May.
@@user-oh2hs6jh5x I grew up in Rochester. While I have no great love of cold weather, I can handle -40 air temps and -80 windchills with the best of them. I have no idea what you're on about. By "cold", I simply mean temperatures that are cold enough that you wouldn't be operating an outdoor amusement park, so anything in the 40s or below. Valleyfair, for example, is only open from May 12 to September 8 this year. Isn't that exactly what I originally said... May to September? That's why Nickelodeon Universe is inside Mall of America and isn't an outdoor attraction.

Hello Marie, I'm glad you were able two tours around in Minnesota. My kids always had to go to the Mall of America first, when we visit their grandfather in Eagan. Wow! I grew up in Excelsior! I have been in that ice cream shop probably 100 times. One of my favorite things on a nice day is to get an ice cream cone and walk down to the commons by the lake

Marie, always a pleasure to view your travelogues and I commend you on your impeccable music choices, Beautiful photography and overall production values.
As a Minnesotan, I always feel like I need to apologize for MOA haha. It’s a little overhyped by local opinion and it is really for tourists, but I’m glad you liked it! Minnesota is definitely an outdoorsy state. So, if you like hiking, biking, skiing, boating etc. it’s a good place to come. There’s a decent amount of cultural arts to see as well. As far as I know, we have most theater seats per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. outside of NYC. There’s some great museums and restaurants throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul. I recommend going north, to Lake Superior. The landscape in northern Minnesota is much more pretty and scenic (in my opinion). Southern Minnesota is more of what you’d expect from the Midwest. It is more flat and farmed, but that can be pretty in its own right. If you have the time, Voyageurs National Park is near International Falls. That is also worth seeing. Minnesota has a French connection, as its territory was once part of French North America.
Thanks for sharing another travel adventure. Some day you should visit Michigan. Not only is the Mustang manufactured here but displayed at the Henry Ford Museum are the 1962 Mustang Roadster prototype 2- seater and the 1964 white convertible Mustang, Serial Number One. If you come late August, visit the Woodward Dream Cruise, where there is Mustang Alley for enthusiasts to show off their Mustangs from all years.
I'm glad you went west and didn't just stay around Minneapolis. You'll definitely get the more authentic "Minnesota Nice" feeling, the further you get away from the Metro!
My favorite part of minnesota was traveling north and hitting some local fairs. Saw rodeos and demolition derby and all sorts of great stuff plus lots of great little towns and food. That was super fun and up north is so beautiful.
I have followed you on most of your amazing adventures! You should be so pleased with your patrons to have so many trips to the US and to so many places. It is fun to watch your reactions to the many interesting and much varied parts of the US. Minnesota is my wife's home state, but not where I am from, but I graduated from HS (in Minneapolis) and college at the University of Minn. Also, to make a small point, a 'burger' is only a bun with hamburger (beef), so it is not just anything with a bun.

I've been housebound for a very long time, so your trip to Excelsior was very special as I have spent a good deal of my life there ... the Mall of America is just down the road from me and doesn't excite me as much as being on the water, but have spent many hours there as well. You need to take a trip into the BWCAW. Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness. Or at least drive to Grand Marais with a stop in Duluth and Gooseberry Falls

Grew up in Minnesota (Minneapolis and Duluth). Spend January there and you’ll understand why Mall of America exists. Most of downtown is connected by skyways (2nd story enclosed bridges between buildings); I think local legend had them invented there (Chicago seems more likely). At any rate it was a great place to grow up.
For someone near all these things it's very interesting. I grew up in Bloomington 5 blocks south of that Mexican restaurant that used to be an Embers through the 90's and 2 miles west of the Met Stadium (Twins, Vikings) which is now the Mall Of America and graduated high school at the Met Center next door (North Stars Hockey) which is now an IKEA. I currently live 2 miles north of those sites. One site I would have visited as a tourist would have been the outdoor sculpture gardens in Minneapolis.
Minnesota is a nice state, and it is very interesting. I am close to it... so I go there from time to time. The mall is a lot of fun and interesting... I took my kids there a time or two when they were younger. They really liked the aquarium as well.
While in Minnesota you should plan on visiting Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park in the northeast part of the state. Ride the elevator 1/2 mile underground.
A weird thing about the mall of America, it doesn’t have heat. It relies on the electrical waste heat and body heat of visitors to keep it warm, which was a bit of a problem in lockdown.

She was such a sweetheart as I "attempted" to order my meal in french. I had a very limited amount of french in high school, but remembered most of what I learned after all those years.
Or can add Jesse James Days in Northfield about 50 miles south of the cities ,or you can enjoy the great Minnesota get together, our state fair ,the one ever fair looks at.
I hope you enjoyed your stay in Southern Canada, I mean Minnesota. As you could see on the lake shore, the Canadian Air Force is well represented, here (Canadian Geese). Lots of scenery!

A big impetus for building that huge mall, I all call it an indoor world, is the long very cold winters in that part of the country.
The winters are wonderful here. Hockey, Ice Fishing, Skiing, Snowmobiling! Also no overcrowding at all away from the major cities!

Granted, I'm a native Alabamian so I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your time in Tennessee and Kentucky, I realize that all of the US had beautiful and wonderful things to offer and sights to see. It's fantastic to see someone have the pleasure of experiencing these wonderful things for the first time!
It's been a while since I was last at Mall of America. It's nice to see that log ride is still there. It was part of it back when the theme park was under its original name, Camp Snoopy.
Nice that you saw the red chair where the long home run was hit. There's also a plaque on the floor showing where home plate was located. Long before the mall was built, on that same site was Metropolitan Stadium (or Met Stadium for short). Though it opened in 1956 and was originally used by a minor league baseball team, it was used by the MLB's Minnesota Twins and NFL's Minnesota Vikings from 1961 to 1981, after which both teams moved into a domed stadium in downtown Minneapolis for a while.
My grandpa immigrated from Sweden in his 20s and moved to MN where he had friends. He made a good life and little family here in the U.S. Summers in Minnesota were lovely, except for the mosquitoes!

I'm an old AZ and CA boy. And as much as I hate cold, I have to say that the Minneapolis St. Paul area is great. Most of my MN time has been in Minneapolis and cold or not, it's one of my very favorite cities. If it were warmer and had a beach it would be tied with San Diego at #1.
I am a Minnesota boy that lived in CA for 40 years. There are hundreds of beaches in Minneapolis-St. Paul, I will give you the cold argument though.
There are good naturally beaches along Lake Superior. A good long one in Duluth. Black sand a little farther north. A few rocky beaches as well.

I've always wanted to visit Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. There are so many people from the region who move from there to here in Arizona, trading the long cold winters for long hot summers, and they always seem polite to a 'T'!

I grew up near the MOA and now live west of Excelsior in another lake town. This state is home, but we love to share and welcome everyone. It's a frozen tundra many months of the year, but you just have to wear the right clothes. Beautiful towns, and friendly people. I hope you had a great time here. I enjoy your other videos as well. I've never lived in Minnesota, but spent some time in Minneapolis when doing some research for a book, and then returned several times with students for a big debate tournament hosted there every year. I loved every visit and have to return.
Minnesotans embrace all 12 months of the year. Yes there is winter, and usually a couple of 3-5 days stretches that you don't go out unless you have to, but it's easy to see why we so embrace our state. Winter is beautiful, but it also makes spring even more exciting. The summers are spectacular and diverse. It can have a stretch of 90 degree days, and then shift to a run of 75 degree days just like that. Everything is so lush. The change over to fall is beautiful, and then you get to start all over waiting for the first snowfall. Contrary to public opinion, we usually don't the that much snow, (45 inches), and when it does it's a fine powdery mix. Glad you made it up here. The Twin Cities are great, Huge in size (a spread out 90 by 75 mile area}, with a population of around 4.million, and with so much to do, eat, etc.. Hopefully you made it to the Minnehaha Falls.and the connecting Chain of Lakes that Minneapolis is known for. While Mpls is more modern, St Paul is old style with some beautiful churches and architecture. You will be back. Trust me.

And you're lucky! The last time I was at the MOA, they were doing a renovation to the aquarium, and it was closed to the public.
The modern shopping mall was actually invented in Minnesota, and the first ever mall is still open... just 6 miles away from Mall of America! The Southdale Center in Edina opened in 1956 as the first completely enclosed shopping mall in the US. Minnesota invented the mall for a simple reason... it is cold and snowy for most of the year, and it makes shopping more comfortable. The Mall of America took the same concept and expanded it to include the aquarium, amusement park, and other attractions for the same reason. The giant glass ceiling makes it feel like a greenhouse in the winter and allows Minnesotans to enjoy those types of attractions that we'd otherwise only be able to enjoy from about May to September.

@@user-oh2hs6jh5x I grew up in Minnesota. It's snowed on my birthday, May 2, three times in my life. We almost *always* have a snowstorm in April. Growing up, most years on Halloween I had to wear a winter coat under my costume because it was so cold. You are correct... the snow might not stick all year, but are you seriously telling me that anyone in Minnesota would be riding, for example, a log ride in October or April? By late September we're getting frost at night, and highs could very easily be 40s in October. It's also a rare year you get a 70 degree day before May.

@@user-oh2hs6jh5x I grew up in Rochester. While I have no great love of cold weather, I can handle -40 air temps and -80 windchills with the best of them. I have no idea what you're on about. By "cold", I simply mean temperatures that are cold enough that you wouldn't be operating an outdoor amusement park, so anything in the 40s or below. Valleyfair, for example, is only open from May 12 to September 8 this year. Isn't that exactly what I originally said... May to September? That's why Nickelodeon Universe is inside Mall of America and isn't an outdoor attraction.

Hello Marie, I'm glad you were able two tours around in Minnesota. My kids always had to go to the Mall of America first, when we visit their grandfather in Eagan. Wow! I grew up in Excelsior! I have been in that ice cream shop probably 100 times. One of my favorite things on a nice day is to get an ice cream cone and walk down to the commons by the lake

The people in Minnesota are like over the top nice
As a Minnesotan, I always feel like I need to apologize for MOA haha. It’s a little overhyped by local opinion and it is really for tourists, but I’m glad you liked it! Minnesota is definitely an outdoorsy state. So, if you like hiking, biking, skiing, boating etc. it’s a good place to come. There’s a decent amount of cultural arts to see as well. As far as I know, we have most theater seats per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. outside of NYC. There’s some great museums and restaurants throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul. I recommend going north, to Lake Superior. The landscape in northern Minnesota is much more pretty and scenic (in my opinion). Southern Minnesota is more of what you’d expect from the Midwest. It is more flat and farmed, but that can be pretty in its own right. If you have the time, Voyageurs National Park is near International Falls. That is also worth seeing. Minnesota has a French connection, as its territory was once part of French North America.
Thanks for sharing another travel adventure. Some day you should visit Michigan. Not only is the Mustang manufactured here but displayed at the Henry Ford Museum are the 1962 Mustang Roadster prototype 2- seater and the 1964 white convertible Mustang, Serial Number One. If you come late August, visit the Woodward Dream Cruise, where there is Mustang Alley for enthusiasts to show off their Mustangs from all years.
I'm glad you went west and didn't just stay around Minneapolis. You'll definitely get the more authentic "Minnesota Nice" feeling, the further you get away from the Metro!

My favorite part of minnesota was traveling north and hitting some local fairs. Saw rodeos and demolition derby and all sorts of great stuff plus lots of great little towns and food. That was super fun and up north is so beautiful.

I have followed you on most of your amazing adventures! You should be so pleased with your patrons to have so many trips to the US and to so many places. It is fun to watch your reactions to the many interesting and much varied parts of the US. Minnesota is my wife's home state, but not where I am from, but I graduated from HS (in Minneapolis) and college at the University of Minn. Also, to make a small point, a 'burger' is only a bun with hamburger (beef), so it is not just anything with a bun.

Grew up in Minnesota (Minneapolis and Duluth). Spend January there and you’ll understand why Mall of America exists. Most of downtown is connected by skyways (2nd story enclosed bridges between buildings); I think local legend had them invented there (Chicago seems more likely). At any rate it was a great place to grow up.
As a born and raised Minnesotan, really cool to see someone enjoying our beautiful state!

For someone near all these things it's very interesting. I grew up in Bloomington 5 blocks south of that Mexican restaurant that used to be an Embers through the 90's and 2 miles west of the Met Stadium (Twins, Vikings) which is now the Mall Of America and graduated high school at the Met Center next door (North Stars Hockey) which is now an IKEA. I currently live 2 miles north of those sites. One site I would have visited as a tourist would have been the outdoor sculpture gardens in Minneapolis.
Minnesota is a nice state, and it is very interesting. I am close to it... so I go there from time to time. The mall is a lot of fun and interesting... I took my kids there a time or two when they were younger. They really liked the aquarium as well.
While in Minnesota you should plan on visiting Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park in the northeast part of the state. Ride the elevator 1/2 mile underground.

A weird thing about the mall of America, it doesn’t have heat. It relies on the electrical waste heat and body heat of visitors to keep it warm, which was a bit of a problem in lockdown.
Ca va? Welcome to the land of 10000 Lakes and 250000 potholes! :) I stopped at a diner in Tofte, MN once for a bite to eat and the waitress was French Canadian. She was such a sweetheart as I "attempted" to order my meal in french. I had a very limited amount of french in high school, but remembered most of what I learned after all those years.
Or can add Jesse James Days in Northfield about 50 miles south of the cities ,or you can enjoy the great Minnesota get together, our state fair ,the one ever fair looks at.
I hope you enjoyed your stay in Southern Canada, I mean Minnesota. As you could see on the lake shore, the Canadian Air Force is well represented, here (Canadian Geese). Lots of scenery!

You need to go too start of the Mississippi in Lake Itasca you will be able to walk across river or stand either side and not get totally wet.
