- Guys, I'm an Idiot! This is/was the Element Enduro Knightwalker and I turned it in to an Awesome PreRunner. a 6000kv brushless motor running 3s (approx 75,000rpm). Anyway, I thought I was being a know it all haha.

Phil. I'm going to annoy you.😅
Saying "IFS suspension at the front" is like saying "reverse back the car backwards." Loads of redundancy. Seeing as IFS means independent front suspension. So yep, I agreed. You are an idiot.😂😂
Just joking. A little banter never hurts. Thoroughly enjoyed your video, as usual. You're probably my favourite RC CZcamsr. Took the top spot from Kev.
"IFS Suspension at the front"... oh yeah hahahaha.. what an Idiot. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Some people think they know what they are talking about, other people know what they are talking about. HAHAHA.
@@TomleyRC Don't feel bad, Greg from RC Driver constantly says "IFS suspension". It's like saying "Automatic Teller Machine machine". I want to punch my monitor every time lol
@@Rex_Stuph I'm waiting to hear an American abbreviate independent rear suspension. IRS, the institution no wants to be interested in them.🤣
@@Average_Bruh Explains why America has hung onto live axle for so long. No one willing invites the IRS.
A lot of Pre-Runners are two wheel drive with an 'I' Beam front end, but I would just leave the front end and remove the front wheel drive assembly for a near perfect Pre-Runner.
Proline Racing makes a I-beam kit
He doesn't care it's just content😊
Steering geometry would be so out of wack
Yeah, they were 2wd. But you’d need to do a bit of work on the front to get it to drive properly.
I'd just build a different truck with an older Axial SCX10-2 (or clone...👀) with the Proline I beam kit
I endorse your decision on the body swap. Looks far better. NOBODY in the real world puts solid axels on Tundra's, Sema trucks aren't real trucks their closer to model cars.
Yeah.. I mean the truck it’s based on looks really cool…. but certainly better with IFS
@@TomleyRC Hi, because of the fact that this question is making me crazy I‘ll have to ask you: Which app are u using for the speed measurements? And btw which Makita tool are u using? I only have the normal Makita tools and they are way too powerful for trying to loosen screws on my HPI WR8 Impreza WRX…
Thx in advance and all the best from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp
5:20 caught me of guard 🤣
You beat me to it 😮 Very cool build dude, you're right, they did miss that evolution, but you nailed it 🙌💯🔥
Yeah, pleased with how it turned out. Just need some open diffs and then can properly rip it
Your videos are like a fine meal, they take time 🤌✌️
we need more scale builds like this. Love the prerunner scale look!
I agree 😇
If you have a 220x220 build plate then all you need todo is cut the Interior in half then print it , or contact knight custom and they'll do it for you
Yeah, then solvent weld them together.
Yeah, I had solutions… but it was just quicker to cut a pre made one 😇
I haven't seen a Toyota truck made with a straight front axle since the 80's. That one picture you put up was a totally custom thing.
I'd say you're on the right track.
The key to getting the suspension on these right is bypass shocks and light spring weight, using the oil in the shocks to support the truck rather than the springs. If you can get an extra set of springless shocks on there that would help massively with the bouncing.
The other thing successful prerunnner/trophy/stadium trucks like this have is being very heavy for the size. A UDR is 6+kg and the SBR tips the scales at 10kg, and that's without batteries. When you think that the wheels on these are considerably lighter than the mammoth wheels on something like an Xmaxx, that's a lot of weight in the body of the truck that is acting on the suspension which is why it moves like it does. Not having that weight means that the suspension is more likely to act on the truck than the other way around. Get some lead in there!
Would also be tempted to try and extend the hexes or axles in general to make it less rolly, and either rivet some arch extensions on it or use a different, wider shell if you can find one.
Truck looks cracking though, nice job. 👌
@5:01 if you can't fix it with duct-tape..... you're using not enough. LOL
lol
If you can't duct it fuct it
I have a sign that says that in my barn!
What a sweet rig! That driver and interior really ties it all together 👍🤜🤛🫡
At some point, we all do or say something that truly is embracing. Doing it and then owning the mistake... that's courage! LoL And don't feel bad, my son calls me stupid at least 10 times a day. Mostly when I tell him "enough cartoons!".
In the slow motion speed shots. It would be nice to stiffen up the rear of the body and also get the rear suspension to stop bouncing the truck into the air. Maybe get the front suspension to react to the terrain. Maybe it is too stiff? I'd like to see if you can get the suspension to work more like a full scale prerunner if possible. Hopefully you like this idea.
killer build! and i agree, the IFS looks great! i would try and find a way to stiffen up that bed though. takes away from the prerunner vibe when the beds bending like crazy and its prolly going to start cracking soon too
Their version and the prototype are of course really cool trail trucks, but I do like the way you built-it up as a proper IFS/trailing arm pre-runner!
Sure a lot of Traxxas stuff in the background ya FANBOYYY! Hahahah keep up the videos Phil.
It’s hard to hide my love for Traxxas sometimes 😇
I don’t often comment on videos but you got me with this one. I don’t care what element says. You did this right! Well done mate! I love making pre-runner/trophy truck content. We need more of this on CZcams!
Cool build! It’s something I’d like to try in the future. Desert truck setup tip: you want more weight in the back than in the front (opposite to a normal crawler). This helps the front end glide over bumps. Full size race trucks are set up that way. I’m curious to see how it would handle if you moved the battery to the rear.
Nice! I did similar with my Knightrunner but haven’t put the trailing arms on yet. It’s fun with a fast motor but easy to roll which keeps it exciting haha.
5:19 "Put it in the wrong hole.. not the first time."😂😂 (sorry dirty mind)..
😇
Respect where it's due, it's not often people fess up to their mistakes...
Shows strength of character that you're not afraid of being wrong...
No one gets it right all the time but most would hide any mistakes...
Incidentally, "I used to boast"...
"But now I'm perfect" 🥰
😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😇✌️
Haha.. yes, I have no shame in admitting when I’m wrong… unless of course I’m arguing with my wife 🤣🤣
@@TomleyRC
👌😇😉
5:20 Not sure your wife wanted to expose that Phil 🤓
I totally want to do this build. Hemistorm mentioned it a while ago but I couldn't get around to it. The fact that you did proof of concept just makes it easier for me to recreate. Thanks!
It was fun to do, and fun to drive 🤟
They definitely got it wrong. Looks much better now - authentic
I like how the esc makes it sound like it has a massive turbo.
Nice build, i thought of doing the same thing when i saw the first video. Pretty versatile setup 👍
Love it! Good colour combo and that interior does finish it off nicely
You did an amazing job with the editing. Making it look like a full size. I'm inspired to do this myself
Thanks Peter
Nice speed on that truck… perfect I would say😳… those slow mo suspension shots were just awesome!!
I wanna name it “4x4 Altima” and tailgate every rc in sight! (Tacoma drivers here do not leave the ego at home)
We don’t have Tacomas in the UK
double clutch the boss of pre runner
Always a fan of custom builds nice job 👍
my friend, no mistake on your end.
Tacomas never came solid axle, not in the US at least. 85 was the last year our pick ups came solid axle. Prerunners also are not 4x4. that photo they referenced is a truck they likely modeled it after. I do admire your ability to be humble and move on! love your vids!
I’d love to see you with some polystyrene tubes and a heat gun come up with your own design for a cage for the interior maybe even with a window net setup on both sides. Then cut the back center section out and build a tube chassis center section with x brace and spare tire mount! Maybe a little radiator and intercooler lol. It would be e sick dude just go full on build with it!
I remember building an IFS prerunner out of an emaxx 2 speed transmission and a scx10. It was unweildy fast but this brings back memories haha
You were 100% correct, that pic of that rust bucket is a 100% custom build that only saw dirt for that pic.
Fantastic job, Phil! The truck just woke up! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks dude. Yeah… loads of fun
You know. If you bought them in order of releases. This is one of those extremely rare instances where you ran before you walked 😂
You missed a Spinal Tap reference with that top speed run :)
I probably miss lots 😅
I think the Zuul was 'inspired' to be a 1/10 version of the Losi Hammer Ray.. which in turn shouldn't have a Fj40 grill, it should be a Jeep
I built a Utron Pre-runner with leftovers from a gatekeeper kit build, better shocks and some Michelin military tires on Boom carbon/delrin wheels to make things fun. Time will tell how much value I can manage with the RTR electronics, I'm Ready To Replace. Much like what you ended up with mine is fun to drive faster than my other crawlers. She is now my favorite after-mtb-ride fun truck.
Cheers! 👍🏼
Yes, it’s a bit of a ‘Jack of all trades’…. I think a slight less aggressive surface would be perfect
@@TomleyRC mine is best as a trail truck, HW 2-in-1 may be next
I had the same idea, but I will use my Knightrunner for the base, and see if I can adapt the trail arms... 🙂
wow thats really cool, awesome job on that one, and yeah pity about the locked diffs but other than that great job
The whine is the turbos. 😂
Tomley I want Mojave 4 s video where it at ?!
Been busy with other stuff
This exact project on my wishlist, but the clear Knightwalker bodies are like hens teeth in the UK
Yes, seem to have been out of stock for a while
Usually you are more likely to traction roll as you call it with a open diff you are more likely to just kick the rear end out and spin around with a locked diff
Man that thing can twirk!
Nice truck. You’re not an idiot.
Thank you for showing your gaff. I respect honesty when it comes to rc youtube.
Cheers dude
Whata awesome build bud.love it
Crawler come trail truck and basher all in one, who could ask for more. Oh and durable too, ACE IN THE PACK.😊😊😊😊 WIN WIN all the way.
Yes 🤟
EVERYONE eats crow on occasion. I suggest yellow mustard on it.
Not sure how it will go on that platform but going from open diffs on my hammer rey to locked center and rear has made it traction roll a lot less and now it drifts nicely aswell, there were quite a few other mods at the same time but im pretty sure the open diffs were a big part of the issue, especially when paired with the spektrum avc gyro system... flysky tx/rx+gyro with 0 gain on the throttle channel is a god send for the rey platform
Visually it reminds me of the truck Top Gear used in the Polar Challenge
Yes kinda
Nothing more respectable than someone who admits when they're wrong about something. Good on ya Phill! 👊👍😎 I wouldn't say you're an idiot dude. An idiot wouldn't say they were wrong, after making it obvious to them. An idiot would try to change around what they were saying to still sound right. 👍
Brilliant Video Tomley 👏🏼.
You should find a way to mount up the axial I beam kit to it and just have it be 2wd maybe a little wider or softer shocks so it doesn’t flip as much
Yes, that’s would be good
Now it sounds like you already broke the speed limit in there after you
It’s almost as fast as my nikko hawg 😛
😂
Almost is good enough for me 😅
Similar to my Baja rey's suspension, that thing don't play it'll fling a tire off the rim even with beadlocks
finally some proper speed test ;)
This thing is awesome! They should have made it like this 👍
Got a feeling they may be leading up to a Rey Competitor.
Nice build!
Reminds me of my kyosho outlaw rampage pro in looks and driving to an extent.... i realy like my rampage extra fun and imressive being rear wheel drive it still can do offroad realy well... not slow tho
Sick pre runner tomley 🔥🤘👍
Nice I just purchased the body kit & it comes with everything you see on it & is only $79 which is unbelievable I’m putting it on a SE with chassis mounted servo but I also had a Ecto with trailing arms that I could use I’m thinking about getting the front end kit but I actually kind of prefer the originals suspension.
welp it looks like it would be a good rock racer👍
Morning Phil!! Nice trucks!!
Morning… well, evening now 😅
I just build one with my knight runner, now just dialing it in but I have a few questions, can I ask you a few questions today after work when it’s in front of me??
Dude can you use a Rc tank. Job done surely? 🤣
As someone who has only 1 rc car, what are the characteristics of open diff driving, front and rear locked, and only front or rear locked?
And when is a gyro good and not good to use?
Thanks
"uh oh, put it in the wrong hole.. not the first time" 🤐
🙃
The CDN dollar took a hit this week and this is $654 - $720
It need to take a bigger hit in a couple of years, then I can get a nice house when we hopefully move 😅
@@TomleyRC you still planning on moving here? EEEEEK. I'm working for the day when I can get the hell out while I can!
@@muskokamike127right? Move from one socialist utopia to another when there are still a few relatively free countries around. Kev had the better idea this time.
@@boduke9428 they are debating a bill that can jail you FOR LIFE for what you post online. Even for what you MIGHT post online.

@@muskokamike127 wow. That's scary. Hopefully after the election in the U.S. there will be a safe destination a little south to move to.
I saw somebody built a gatekeeper with an IFS2 kit fitted front and rear , looked really interesting !
Yes, I think I may have seen something like that
for an open diff you could use a TRX-4 axle with the SSD portal delete kit in the rear
Yes, maybe 👌
I think you created a desert racer!
Looks great nice swap 👌
5:21 Phil 🤭🤫
🙃
Are you jumping on a plane and coming to Arrmageddon in Florida? It’s 20 minutes from my house👍🏻… long trip for you though
Should do a project with the MT12 Van.
@user-tk8wr5wi7e oh really?
Congratulations on your terrific camera work in this video, Phil.
Congratulations?
@@AnthonyELombardi Phil's always going to provide good tracking footage, but in this video it strikes me that he's surpassed even his own high standard.
I don't know whether you're familiar with the effort it takes to drive an RC with one hand and to compose nicely-framed shots with the other. I have tried, and can assure you that it's quite a taxing task.
Thanks Del. I think the weather helped… Gopros love lots of light, so made the quality much better. Oh… and of course my second to none driving skills 😅
night walker , must be a vampire 🤣🤣🤣 .
🦇
your daughter saying something that even with all the duct tape in the whole world cant fix that scar
Awesome video!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers dude
I think the tacomaish looking body looks better as a prerunner honestly.
you put it in the wrong hole...not the first time..damn..your wife must be annoyed as hell! great vid! see you in the next one!
how did you secure the interior in the body? would like to do the same with my knightrunner 👍👍👍shocks looked great in slo mo 👌😀😀
Hot glue and some precision cutting so it kinda friction fits (also had to cut some holes for the rear shocks to fit in, and a hole for the transmission
Many of us have put it in the wrong hole, but usually not by accident.
If it’s not an accident… then is it right or wrong?
Another question: Which Makita tool are u using? The one at around 5:23min… Thx! 🙏
My gf told me the size of my print bed doesn't matter. It's what you do with it that matters.
She said that to me too!
Want a true pre-runner you should of built a axial scx 10 ii. Pro-line makes a kit for it.
Phil they called fender liners lol
Hi I’m looking at getting the mt10,but it’s abit rich for my pocket could you suggest a alternative which would be my upgrade I got the jumpshot v2 I’ve left it brushed but have upgraded the servos and running it with a 2s cheers for any advice
That's awesome! I want to do the same thing. Element definitely missed the mark!
Turned out decent for sure 👌
Try using the open differential kit for the Associated MT12
ASC 41114
Yes, might have to give it a try
To be fair, the main reason I didn’t buy the element Tacoma was because sure it did not come with a arms up front and trailing arms in the rear.
I get it…. “But”… you ever…not questioning what you did but just scratched your head and questioned where you went. 🤣
I spend most of my life scratching my head and wondering 🤣
Ok, it was a mistake but, the result was still very good. They look like quality trucks though.
Cheer dude
