- This is Kacee's First Time Watching Reaction to the movie Mortal Kombat (1995). Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert) handpicks three martial artists -- federal agent Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), Shaolin monk Lui Kang (Robin Shou) and action movie sensation Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) -- and mentors them. After intense training, Rayden transports the trio to Outworld, the site of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament. There, the three humans must defeat the demonic warriors of the evil Shang Sung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) -- or allow Sung to take over the Earth

Watch all 3 Mortal Kombat Legends Animated movies. They give you All the back story. (Y'all like animated movies and the gore is good)💡
🐲luv this cringy Mortal Kombat first time watched at around 10yrs of age at home. In cable tv HBO telecast at weekend. I and my sister use to imitate the characters. My fav was subzero, scorpion. Hope you react to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation 1997🐲
sonya is way hotter here though, do you notice kano was drooling all over sonya's thighs when he was between them? also if they wanted to make a mortal kombat movie, they shouldve hired korean to direct, that guy who direct project wolf hunting should do it
How dare you laugh at the REPTILE FIGHT??? The reptile fight was the best one ever.
yes that guy who looks like Scorpion and Subzero was REPTILE. ( green mask )
How did the guy not know that ???
I have not played any mortal Kombat games on ps4 etc but i remember all the characters from the 90s and when i played Mortal Kombat 3 on Sega.
For that ( the laughing and not remembering ) you have to do 10 push ups and 10 squats.
Lore wise Liu Kang is the main character for most of the games with some of the other characters taking center stage at certain points like, Raiden, Johnny, Kung Lao, Shujinko and Cassie but Liu Kang has been the kinda main, main character if you will.
Speak for yourselfs, i''m a adult and i still love this movie.
Yeah, nothing has changed. :)
Same!
Same
Same!!
Same. They were getting on my nerves about it. :)
This version of Shang Tsung is so iconic that they added him to the newest game as a DLC character, lines from the movie and everything.
They also added a version of the T-800 from a terrible movie and couldn't even get Arnold, so what's your point?
@@DiggitySlice No one cares about whatever you're mad about.
They also added Raiden and his voice from this movie aswell
@@realtalkboxing. Bridget Wilson from this movie, too.
ExCUSE you? I still hold it as one of the best video game movies ever.
Bros title is wild, this movie is a classic always will be
I will honestly die on the hill that the new movie is mid at best while the original is a classic.
He's ignorant! Giggling like a little school girl every 10 seconds, doesn't know who Reptile is even thought he was introduced in the first MK game. Besides outdated special FX the movie is still the best video game adaptation.
@@xTrinity007 Jesus fuck guys. GET A THESARUS. Stop placing EVERY FUCKING OPINION ON A NON EXISTENT TEIR! ENOUGH OF THIS MID TOP TIER BULLSHIT! THINK FOR YOURSELF!
Yeah but these reactors only discovered movies like, a year ago.
Hate on it all you want, but the introduction of Scorpion and Sub Zero is the greatest introductions of characters in cinema. Them walking out was so well done.
Facts!
💯
The green 'ninja' is Reptile. He started as a secret character. Back in the day the space in a game was limited, so to create more characters they just coloured them differently: a pallet swap. It was later that reptile became..well a reptile
Just shows you he doesn't know anything about Mortal Kombat.
@@DjJokerr yup calls himself a fan but doesn't know the basics LOL
This is the first time they got me triggered, lol. He says he played up to Mortal Kombat X and Reptile has been around since MK1, I know as a secret fight.
even says the word reptile but doesn't connect it
Reptile in ninja form is the best
If you claim to have grown up playing the original mortal kombat games, how do you not remember an iconic character like Reptile?! I remember I could not wait to get out of school to go to my nearest liquor store to play the arcade game for hours on end. When the film was first released and I watched it in the theaters, it was an amazing take on the games.
He probably means playing games like 4, DA, and Deception, where Reptile looks totally different. Not like the first three games.
Yeah it's rough with them, this movie was great they honestly don't know wtf they were talking about when it comes to mortal Kombat
It’s a genuine & cheesy way to lie & pull in the viewers
Kano originally did not have the "Aussie" accent. It was this version's actor's accent. He passed away, so in honor of him, they made Kano an Aussie and gave him the acccent.
Apparently the actor was supposed to be a British Cockney accent, but his accent just came out Australian.
@@daemonredfield3211 That is the accent an Aussie gets when they work as a CPA in London for 15yrs lol
That’s how you know a movie and it’s cast are transcendent. Kano did not have an established nationality or ethnic background prior to this, and Trevor Goddard’s natural accent fit so much they kept it. This movie needs to be preserved in Congress (if it hasn’t already) because it did damn near everything right in the movie and the practical effects (cough, cough, Goro, cough) still hold up.
@@AngieCarrdon't forget,Johnny Cage being interested in Sonya was also introduced in the original movie.
@@AngieCarr He was supposed to be Japanese-American but they retconned it.
The introduction of Reptile was freaking badass. The fight between Reptile and Liu Kang probably one of the best I’ve seen in MK movies. I remember seeing this in the late 90’s and getting me hyped. Still does lol
I just relistened to the reptile fight ost on their reaction, and it is an absolute banger still! They kinda bummed me out, I understand if they didn't like it, but saying even in the 90s it was still bad is so untrue.
@@Cookieboy70 yeah I don’t think they didn’t like much of the movie. Mostly making fun of it. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️
@@Cookieboy70 I love that music and the theme music too both are bangers
@@Cookieboy70 Traci Lords with Juno Reactor. The soundtrack is the instrumental mix, without Traci"s vocals. I bought her album because of that song. Don't recommend, but it's funny to have her CD.
I'll take Christopher Lambert as Raidan any day of the week. He gave the character personality. The laugh is his signature thing. back from the Highlander movies.
There are 4 reasons people hate MK2021
1-Arcana
2-Cole Young
3-No Tournament
4-Raidens portrayal
5. Shaky cam
6. Quick cuts
7. Close ups on action.
8. no Johnny Cage
9. Easter eggs to other bad ass characters
10. kung Lao getting killed off so easily
For me it’s the No Tournament
basically the writing overall
@@Ant1992_ 11.Cole Young kill goro 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Shang Tsung in this movie is so much better than the new one.
Scorpion removing his mask to reveal a skull, then breathing fire, was his fatality in the original game.
Signing an autographed photo was Johnny Cage's original Friendship move.
There’s a debate about that picture in the movie, but in my head, the picture belonged to Scorpion who was a big fan of Johnny Cage when he was alive and it fell out of his costume when he was killed
@@merchillioHanzo Hasashi a fan of Johnny Cage? Hard to see. 😅
@@merchillioI always took it as the photo given to him as a target from the sorcerer
This movie is a million times better than the new version. I still love this movie and always will. Soundtrack is amazing as well.
Anyone who likes the new one is a low attention span zoomer who doesn't actually like martial arts.
@@miltechmoto The original is a more fun movie but that scorpion sub-zero fight in the new one is better than all the fights in the original movie
@@Kickinthescience no way, that fight barely scratched the surface, the only part that was good was the part where sub zero freezes blood and uses it at s sword. But that's pure cgi. The scorpion vs Johnny cage fight was better. Reptile vs liu kang was wayyyy better. The first mortal kombat had more front flips, back flips and kicks. Those were real deal gymnasium flips not just some actor strapped to a harness or cgi.
@@Kickinthescience Yeah no doubt the fight choreography and even some of the acting is better than the original movie. Scorpion and Sub in the original kinda just felt like high tier henchmen than actual characters, and there are actual fatalities in the new movie. I think the first movie's story definitely makes more sense/is more fun than the new stuff but a lot people tend to ignore the bad about the original just because it was made during a time when most other movies were either really good or masterpieces lmao. I may be a zoomer, but even I know that some of my favourite childhood movies like Spider-Man 2002 had some HUGE problems.
@@Corvo-zs7dxthat’s because scorpion and sub zero aren’t that strong in the og timeline. Characters like reptile would kill both but in the new timeline it got flipped on its head
What young adults and kids in this generation don't understand is that the movie was made in 1995. Remember... the CGI was not that good in the early days. I think they made the 1995 version pretty good for its film.
Shit the CGI in the 2021 of Goro is absolutely horrible! I’ll take the practical 1995 Goro all day
If I'm not mistaken this original Mortal Kombat movie is still beloved by many adults today who were fans as kids, it's the second one after this mortal kombat annihilation which was a disaster lol I definitely don't recommend watching that one but this original one was really successful went it first came out
Eh, I liked the 2nd one also. The fight choreography was better in the second, plus you have that great chick fight in the mud! What's not to like?
@@DavidSmith-pg1ob hahahahahaha
Even as a child I knew it sucked. It’s a bad movie all the way and a bad adaptation
@@Ian-Omega I mean, it's not any worse than the first TMNT movie and that was the shit! As far as shit movies go, the second one was a massive pile both feet stepped in.
Bro the Jax fight in the lab was great in the second lol worth watching for that alone
45:28 The important character development for Johnny in this scene is that he was willing to finish Goro away from the crowd. No one was watching. He was fighting to protect his friends, not for fame.
Damn bro thank you for that. This has been my favorite movie since I was 6 and I never thought of it that way 🙏🏽
It's hilarious that you said that you don't know Scorpion's backstory.
Because you do.
It's the first three minutes of the 2021 movie.
You know, when Bi Han kills his family, and he becomes this undead revenant vengeance demon thing.
Incidentally, those initial three minutes are the only part of the movie that have anything to do with MK lore, in general.
In other words, Scorpion's backstory is the only part of MK lore you know. 😜
He doesn't know anything about Mortal Kombat. He claims to play MK games yet he doesn't know who reptile is, doesn't know any backstories on MK. Guy is completely clueless!
Honestly, I almost did not make it through the reaction video. They are entitled to their opinions of course, but the reaction as a whole was worse I have ever seen from them. They basically do not know what they are talking about most of the time in this video. She has an excuse for not knowing anything, but He doesn't, as He saw it before and played several of the games. They did not know what was going on half the time cause they just kept talking over the dialogue of the film, laughed at.. well nothing... overreacted to things in general.
They made Bi Han straight up evil by removing Quan Chi though. Dude already acts like Noob Saibot
@@DjJokerr They disappointed me with their reaction, but I still love them.
@@Cookieboy70 With this one it seemed like they switched from watching the movie to just making fun of it the entire time. I've done that watching movies plenty of times and you basically turn off any chance to enjoy a movie when you just sit there and pick apart every little piece of it to crack jokes. I'm not saying this movie is a masterpiece by far but you can't come down on it too hard when you didn't even give it a chance in the first place. Yeah, the newer Mortal Kombat movie doesn't have as much of that older 90's movie cheese to it but it has the 2020's movie cheese. We might not all see it now but give it a decade or so and we'll look back at it and start thinking some of the same things.
Also, with the number of things put into this movie as just being connections to the game, yet they had no idea because they don't know anything about the game, it's no surprise that the movie was basically lost on them. I mean, to not even understand the reason for the signed picture of Johnny Cage... You can't always watch older movies with a modern movie lens. Yeah, a lot of the fighting in the 90's TMNT movie isn't great either but that's what we did back then. A 90's movie has 90's level CGI? Don't compare it to modern day CGI.
Yeah, I still enjoy watching them as well but they could've gone a bit easier on it.
This title confuses me. Saw it in theaters as a kid and loved it. I'm 36 years old and watch it at least twice a year still.😂
Dude reptile is my all time favorite MK character. He looked so badass in this movie. Originally he was a secret boss in mortal kombat 2 and then became his own character.
Correction: he was a secret character in mk1 (not a boss), and then in mk2 he came as a selectable character.
It's been a while I couldn't remember if it was 1 or 2. You had to preform a specific task during a specific stage without any warning to do so in order to fight him. That's totally a secret boss.
@@bamboobtchslap i totally get your point but for me he doesn't count as a boss since you could fight him and continue with the normal fights until the two actual bosses. In the second game they did something similar but with three characters (Jade, Smoke and Noob Saibot)
This movie stayed much closer to the first 2 video games than the new one. A lot of the set pieces are levels from the games, and the moves the characters use are directly from the games (Johnny's split ball punch, Lou's bicycle kick, Sonya's handstand.) Johnny's autographed picture was his Friendship from the second game. Reptile was a hidden character in MK 1 where you had to knock your opponent off the bridge level while achieving a flawless victory I believe in order to fight him. I think there had to be a full moon in the level also or something like that. He was very hard to find. Scorpion taking off his mask and burning his opponent was his Fatality in the games. Even Sonja being chained to the pillars and wearing that outfit was in the final level of the first game. If you grew up playing the games, this movie was awesome because they really stayed true to the games.
You said all I wanted to say.
THANK YOU! I was gonna write out a lengthy comment telling these 90s babies why they didn't "GET" this movie and why they should try to appreciate it more for being pure fun fan service, but you said it all.. I won't lie, I like reaction videos for the most part, but their commentary was a little bit too Gen Z for me 🙄
Stayed closer to the video games? where's the Shirai Ryu vs Lin Kuei stuff then? the new movie had that, where is it here? V; ;
@@FurryStockings The video games meaning MK 1 & 2. A lot of that lore was in comics, and side stories at the time.
@@FurryStockings Really? The new movie had 1 thing the old one didn't, yet the old one had hundreds that the new one didn't and you think you have an actual argument? Do better.
Reptile was a "secret" opponent in the first Mortal Kombat, a green version of Scorpion/Sub Zero, he later became a recurring character in the series, and became part of the recurring concept of making dozens of the same ninjas in different colors
He's clueless! Anybody that played early MK game knows the character.
Oof might want to change that title. A lot of feelings will go off.
Already disliked the video lol
@@marcosortiz3599lmao!!
I mean, at least they’re probably getting a lot of interaction… probably helps the channel. I got baited, even with this in mind, heh. (Still glad to set the record straight on this movie.) 😌
Yeah I was going to say maybe they did it intentionally because it's his personal view but they should probably change the title because they're going to have fans they're going to talk about the lore and everything else
So, if it hasn’t been explained yet… When Johnny Cage fought Scorpion and the photograph signed fell, there is a code in the original Mortal Kombat games that instead of doing a “Fatality” it would be called “Friendship” which would do funny friend things to your opponent.
When you questioned the fighter fighting Liu Kang was “Reptile” who is actually a fan favorite. He came later on in the games.
There was lore to the franchise in comics and cartoons. It came after the games and movie started to take over the 90s & went on from there.
well... he was in the first game, but only as a secret opponent, couldnt play as him, and had to do a specific thing to get to the fight
@@shadowmantis23 double flawless with a fatality on The Pit when you saw something flying by the moon (witch, Santa Claus, etc.) Was how you fought Reptile.
On the other hand, one movie that stayed good into adulthood is the first TMNT movie (1990)
One of my favorite movies!!!
This movie will always be amazing.
Agreed. I liked that the first movie was a bit more adult like the comics kinda were. Secret of the ooze was toned down to be more appealing to kids and "family friendly" to sell more merch.
I was 9 when this movie came out. I remember fighting my friend in his living room to this song. I will forever love this movie and Street Fighter.
Yo, my brother and I had a whole fight choreographed to the theme. We didn't have any furniture in our living room for a while.
Nobody would doubt Christopher Lambert as Rayden if they had seen Highlander!
Two things real quick: 1) How dare you ... and 2) HOW DARE YOU!
Calm down Greta 🤣
I was 11 years old when this movie came out. Also, turning 40 this year and I still love this film.
I love this movie. I still quote lines from Mortal Kombat 1995 today.
Fun fact: Kano prior to the movie was Japanese-American. The actor in this film is British and uses a working class British accent. People mistook it for Australian so in future depictions of the character, they made him Australian.
You have to remember, at the time, video game adaptations were fully experimental. Heck, they still regularly botch them today. This was easily the best from the period. It is very dated now, but it still has a lot of style, some decent fights, a great soundtrack, and it stayed fairly true to the source material and lore it had to go off of.
This was honestly one of the best "video game" movies for a period of 15+ years.
We don't talk about Mario Brothers
also the character backgrounds where not very developed yet, so there where very few details to look at, pretty much all in this movie was a refference to moves and dialogs from the mortal kombat original game. later on they started adding more story line to the game and in the newer consoles they added cinematics also. but for the budget and character development they had at the time this was a pretty cool movie.
33:52 that was a *_FINISH HIM_* ... Friendship, *_FRIENDSHIP?!?!??_* from the 2nd game. Numerous scenes in this movie were homages to moves in the game, like Scorpion's teleport, Johnny Cage's shadow kick, Scorpion's fatality, SubZero's ice grenade, Shang Tsung's fatality, Sonya's leg grab, Liu Kang's bicycle kick, Cage's nut punch, and numerous others.
they brought it back as a fatality in one of the modern mk games, can't remember which
Instant classic 🔥 I loved this movie 90’s baby
Reptile is a secret character you can fight in the game when this happened in the theater the audience went nuts!
The originally cast Cameron Diaz as Sonya, but she broke her arm during training and had to be recast. That’s also why Sonya has much less demanding fights in the movie, as she had very limited time to train.
Very true, and to be honest I do not think Bridgette Wilson fit the role, even if She had been given the proper amount of training.
In my opinion, this one is way better than the 2022 version.
No! Mortal Kombat 1995 is still awesome 😂 don't slander greatness. Way better than the weird 2021 reboot
True. Growing up with this movie then seeing the reboot was weird to me. Especially cole young being heavily involved with the story.
Watching this in the 90s was epic! The 2nd one is the piece of shit everyone hated lol
This film is a Masterpiece!!!
So there is actually a massive amount of lore and story to the videogame series. Even the original did have a story, which this movie is based on. They just didn't have the space on cartridges to really tell it, so it was usually explained in the manual of the game. The "story mode" for mk where they started explaining the story in game I wanna say started around the ps2 Era, early 2000s. If you get a chance watch some synopsis videos online of the game lore. The story is honestly great.
Wtf are you talking about this movie is one of the best video game adaptations, the direct sequel to this one on the other hand...
He's ignorant, doesn't know anything about Mortal Kombat.
To be honest, I liked this more as an adult, because when I was a kid I always wanted movies to be super serious and mature, but as I got older I started to appreciate when a movie is self aware and just fun
The scene where Johnny Cage pays Liu Kang to load his bags is I am pretty sure an homage to Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee and John Saxon boarding the boat to the Island. Happy St Patrick's Day ☘️
Yup, it was.
Well technically some of the concept of Mortal Kombat was Inspired by Enter the dragon & Big trouble in little china
Liu Kang is the best in this movie. I grew up watching this as well!
I love this movie, Liu Kang is a badass in this one as it should be. You guys should watch Mortal Kombat animated movies they keep it closer to the lore and are very good.
Bullshit!I loved it then and I love it now! :D
Now THIS is a proper Mortal Kombat movie. The one and only.
The quirks of Raiden and his voice are actually pretty natural for actor Christophe Lambert. That reminded me that you should absolutely react to the movie Highlander
On Christopher Lambert (Raiden), that is his normal voice and laugh. Each Mortal Kombat game has a story involving the lives of the characters and how their histories were intertwined. Starting with the first arcade game, lore was explained on-screen with character profiles and likewise there was more revealed if you beat the game. Later games included cut scenes with dialogue between characters. The canon expanded with each new game, with some characters even changing alliances.
This is the best video game adaptation to a movie to this date. With the best villain ever. Come on now
When this movie was made, it went off the original arcade game. Unless you played the arcade, can't be considered a goat of knowing and enjoying this classic movie. New generation don't know and understand the nostalgia this brings.
It's hilarious watching your reaction to Raiden. You're seeing him from the perspective of, oh, he's so much more cheesy because he's some rando white guy with a bit of an accent. But for those of us who grew up in the 80s, he's Connor McLeod from Highlander! Which, by the way, you should totally watch if you haven't yet. There ain't no cheese like 80s cheese :D
This holds a special place in my childhood.
Still my favorite movie as an adult. Way better than that lifeless reboot.
The casting for Sonya changed last minute, so she didn't have much to train with. It also didn't help that she was filming for both Mortal Kombat and Billy Madison.
I unapologetically love this Mortal Kombat movie as well as Annihilation. Also, Kitana in this movie gives strong Gal Gadot vibes to me
would love if Gal played Kitana in the new movies
@@Mitsu2040would be cool, but wouldn't make sense at this point to have a different person from Mileena's actress.
Sonya Blade's signature move is her leg grab, hence her performing a variation of it here. Plus, in respect to her personality, she's special armed forces, she's never been one to be overly bubbly and often serious and at times sarcastic.
Awww hell naw. I've watched it several times as an adult and enjoyed it just as much as I did when I was a kid.
I used to watch this and 3 ninjas back to back on weekends 🙂
The Mortal Kombat games have always had a main storyline and storylines for each character. They have been changed or adjusted over 30 years, but they've always been there.
I think this one is just more fun. The music pops off, the characters have more charisma and personality, doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's somehow more accurate than the 2021 version yet manages to have it's own style that has since been embraced by MK fans. It's a charming, fun, cheesy action adventure. If you embrace the dated CGI, the rest of the movie holds up quite well when taken for what it is.
False! This movie came out when I was 13, but I didn't see it until I was 15 (Not sure if 15 falls under child for you). I've watched this movie several times since then and have watched at least a dozen reactions to it. It's a pretty solid video game/action film from start to finish. On the flipside, the newest film has a strong prologue but completely drops the ball for the rest of the film.
I like this version of Raiden way better than the horrible one from the 2021 movie. This one wants to help but really has a devil may care attitude a lot of the time going on about it...most recent Raiden sucked at his job and let Outworld fighters attack and kill his fighters before the tournament than had the audacity to get angry that "this is what I have to work with" when seeing who was left. :-/ His character was practically useless in the newest version. Cannot wait for Annihilation though...man I'm gonna love them watching that train wreck. lol
One last note is one of the most fantastic things about watching this movie as a kid was Reptile...so disappointing to see him as a bad cgi lizard running around...then BAM we got that fight scene that made the entire movie for me.
Fun Fact: Cameron Diaz was originally cast for Sonya Blade and trained for the role. But due to an injury, she unavailable to film, so they cast Brigitte Wilson.
This movie massively catered to 13yr old boys who loved the games, especially mortal kombat 1 and 2. Pretty much sums up me in 1995, so yes i saw this in theater several times and still break out my dvd occasionally haha
Kacee doesn't appreciate this Rayden since she never seen any of the Highlander movies. People forget how big of a star Christopher Lambert was back then. And him being in this movie was a huge deal.
Lambert is a charismatic Raiden. The new one barely spoke English and had no charisma whatsoever. Plus he was weak and almost did nothing.
I never saw the Highlander movies but I appreciate the crap out of this Raiden.
This was, for all it's faults, arguably the greatest "based on a video game" movie ever made. For a while.
It may not be the ultimate most wonderful movie based on videogame source material type.
But what I like about it is that this first movie actually respects some of the aspects based mainly at the time on the 1st and 2nd game just mixed together for the adaptation.
Still better than the remake I can tell you that.
This is why I feel sorry for people that weren't teenagers in the 90s. You kids really missed out.
Singer Christopher Lambert as rating in this movie, I actually preferred him because of his voice. And by the way that's his voice he wasn't trying to lower it that's legit him, and also it's impressive that when he was doing this and also Beto of Highlander he was also technically blind
This came out when I was in high school, loved it then, loved it now.
There are actually random times I think of this Raidens laugh and it genuinely makes me cackle
This movie I think is the greatest video game adaptation of any kind of franchise ever!!
You did not have a good reaction to this movie, u can't be doing a reaction to a movie that was done decades ago with d mindset as if it's a present film, u have to watch it with a sense of d time it was made, u showed know level of appreciation for d difference in time for this movie, it's a way more better movie than d present one .
Absolute fan of this. Snuck into the theater with my brother to check out this masterpiece of video game cenima as kids and we were not disappointed in the least. Accuracy aside in casting or story-wise, the effects were top notch for the time and we absolutely did not complain in the slightest. That soundtrack came on in the title sequence, everyone in that theater, myself and every kid included were ready to throw down.
Christopher Lambert as Raiden is pretty much just Christopher Lambert but with lightning. His other epic and cult favorite is most definitely Highlander.
For real, he's pretty much Connor MacLeod with that little laugh.
@@acereporter73 EXACTLY! 😆
Anyone who says "some of the fights aren't very good" during the Liu Kang vs Reptile fight from the 90's Mortal Kombat movie, is not someone I trust with movies. Sorry.
This movie still holds up as an adult. Still one of the most faithful video game movie adaptations.
I'm 39. I loved this movie as a kid, and I love it now. Cheesy as hell, but so much more entertaining than the new one!
Same brother, this movie will always have a place in my heart of nostalgia. I remember seeing this in theaters and getting long john silvers after such a core memory for me
I'm always open to new interpretations but god the new one was horrible. Scorpion and Sub-zero were the only good things in that garbage remake.
If you want more Christopher Lambert (the actor who played Raiden), check out the 1986 movie Highlander. It has a pretty cool soundtrack by Queen, and you'll enjoy/get a laugh out of the character accents Christopher and co-star Sean Connery SHOULD be using, but aren't.
I'm a shpaniard!

Christophe Lambert's laugh as Raiden was so iconic I remember some meme website had created the "Lambert Box" a soundboard with all of his chortles.
I feel your title is false. I watched it as a child and liked it. And I still like it. It's not a great movie, but it's not so bad that it isn't enjoyable.
I honestly enjoy both this movie and the new MK movie. Each has things that are better than the other. IMO:
MK95: Shang Tsung's actor, Liu Kang's actor, Soundtrack, Tournament/Outland setting. Raiden (Christopher Lambert is a guilty pleasure, I'll admit, lol).
MK21: Scorpion/Sub-Zero actors and lore, Kung Lao, Goro (special effects), Reptile, special moves/fatalities.
Pros (Both): Kano, Sonya (I enjoyed Bridgette WIlson, but I think Jessica nailed the character better). Fight choreography for most scenes.
Cons (Either): Cole's entire existence (especially the literal plot armor), Reptile (didn't like either version overall, really), some Goro aspects (janky puppetry in '95, dying to Cole and lack of overall hype buildup in '21), some cringey dialog.
There's a lot more I could go into detail on... but that would be asinine, this is already too much, lol.
Originally, Brandon Lee was briefly considered to play the role of Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat movie but tragedy struck when he died from an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.
the only silver lining of his death is he didnt get to work in this movie
@@ahmaranwar1488 oof
I'm glad he didn't to be honest. He's better than that role.
Lol
He was originally the Matrix filmmakers first choice for Neo... sad shit he would have been a huge star.
This movie is actually amazing
I still love this movie it has a great soundtrack, and some good action scenes, I don't care how cheesy it is.
Agree! Only the special effects are outdated and it was made on a budget. The movie still craps on the new one.
This is way better than the new movie.
Mortal Kombat essentially is about stopping the Emperor of Outworld from invading Earthrealm and conquoring it. This movie focuses on the 10th Mortal Kombat Tournment. If Outworld wins 10 tournaments in a row. Shao Kahn, who essentially is Shang Tsung's master, gets to claim Earthrealm as his own. In the movie, Outworld has already won 9 of the 10 tournaments. So, this one is critical to Earthrealm's survival. The original games focus on this as well as Shang Tsung hosted the first tournament for his master. Shang Tsung Lost. So Mortal Kombat games 2 and 3 essentially focus on Shao Kahn trying to claim Earthrealm, Mortal Kombat 2 (Game) Shang Tsung convinces Shao Kahn to spare his life and so Shao Kahn hosts a new Mortal Kombat Tournament in Outworld. In the Mortal Kombat 3 game, Shao Kahn having lost the 2nd tournament decides to try invading Earthrealm. There is a lot to go into. Essentially, the Mortal Kombat tournament was created by the elder gods so Earth would have a way to defend themselves and fight for their realm to save it.
Love this movie! Much better than the new one for me. The cheese is what makes it better for me. The new one did well with scorpion and subzero and I enjoy the fatalities but I feel this movie was better crafted, more enjoyable, and I like the characters better. Also, despite its cheese it's pretty faithful to the original lore and story. The new one has better production values but this one has better and more memorable locations.
For reference, the pull off the mask and breathe fire on the enemy was Scorpions fatality in the first mortal kombat games, and the signed autograph was Johnny Cage's 'friendship' finish which was in either the second or third game, forgot which.
The original is always gonna be 10x better than the newer version.
Christopher Lambert (Raiden) has always sounded like that. He's French-American, but his accent is more raspy than heavy.
And I feel the same. I don't care what anyone says. The new movie can't even compare to the original.
The original movie forever, is the best. The music, the fighting, the dialogue. It's pure Mortal Kombat.
I still enjoyed the new one though but this, the original, I can rewatch a thousand times over and still love.
The old games did have lore in the character cheets and the manual. It was from X on that the game had an actual story mode.
For instance there are 2 sub-zero's. From teh first game he was a bad guy that was killed and his brother took up the name, but as a good guy. The older brother was then returned as a soul called noob saibot.
Also the scorpion and sub-zero are not just enemies, there clans are enemies.
The ps2 games had a story mode, at least Deception (the one i played from that era had it). Also Mk9 or Mk 2011, the one before MKX.
@@JuntosXlaLibertadMileyBuIIrich O yeah, deception had a story mode, forgot about that one. But it wasn't really in depth like 9 and onworths was it?
Mortal Kombat 1995....still the BEST MK movie out there. 'Nuf said.
9:36 Nah this movie inspired actually a lot of MK going forward including relationships, the white hair of Raiden and Kano being Australian(instead of half Japanese/half American), prior to this movie his hair was canonically black based on his bio from the prequel comic done by MK co-creator John Tobias.
Lol he didnt even know who's Reptile on the movie 😂😂
And he says play the games jajajaja poor
Flawless victory…. 😂
Raiden's "I don't think so" is still awesome.
The level of disrespect for a cult classic such as this is astronomical smh
Hard to watch this video when 2 little girls keep giggling every 10 seconds. Yes this movie had lower budget and the special effects don't hold up besides that movie is way better than new MK movie crap.
