The Ōtsuka Kagura Troupe presents: Mt. Ibukiyama (English subtitles)【英語字幕配信】大塚神楽団「伊吹山」

There are over 200 kagura troupes in Hiroshima Prefecture working to pass down and preserve the rich heritage of the traditional performing art of kagura. Before COVID-19, kagura troupes would perform to large audiences at events, festivals, and even kagura competitions. With international travel still not back to what it once was, we thought we’d bring the magic of kagura to you at home, complete with English subtitles, until the day when travel to Japan is possible.

【Synopsis】
The hero that united ancient Japan, Yamato-Takeru-no-Mikoto, goes to visit Miyazu-hime in Owari. While they were glad to be together at last, he is ordered to destroy a violent mountain god who disturbs the peace of Mt. Ibukiyama in Oumi. He leaves his sword, the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, with Miyazu-hime and heads to Mt. Ibukiyama where he fights the mountain god and, despite being bitten with the god’s poisonous fang, defeats him. However, the poison takes his life and Mikoto is never to return to his wife, Miyazu-hime.
【あらすじ】
古代大和朝廷統一の英雄・倭建命（やまとたけるのみこと）は尾張の美夜受比売（みやずひめ）を訪ねます。再会を喜ぶ二人でしたが、尊は近江国・伊吹山の荒ぶる神を退治せよとの勅命を受けていました。命は美夜受比売の助言を聞かず、神剣・草薙の剣（くさなぎのつるぎ）を持たず伊吹山へと向かいます。妖気が漂う伊吹山に着いた命は、荒ぶる神の毒牙を受けながらも、激闘の末、神を打ち取ります。しかし、語句が似触れた命は美夜受比売の元へ帰ることも敵わず、その短く壮絶な生涯に幕を閉じるという物語です。
