+Jonah Bazan Me too. I used to only listen to Dirge for November's first 2 minutes. One day, i took a chance and decided to listen to the rest of the song. I've been listening to Opeth ever since.
I'm always amazed at how natural Opeth makes transitioning into cleaner vocals, and melodies, then straight back into the more metal sounds. Also Mikael's humor is drier than the damn desert, and its amazing.
Hahahahaha he is so funny! "Don't blame me, I'm just a clockmaker from Swede" and how he makes everyone do headbangs without music and saying "That looks pretty stupid up here" hahahahahahaha
First song I ever heard from opeth, I was standing amongst the food dealers trying to eat my burger, I was wearing a slayer shirt and every two seconds some one would scream "SLAYERR!!" at me and so, naturally I had to respond, meanwhile I hear this insane double bass and riff in the background of the slayer offs, turn round and head for the stage it was coming from and I was stunned, ever since 2011 I've sweated all the older album's almost daily 🤣
It never ceases to amaze me how Mikael can go from the most diabolical of growls to the cleanest and prettiest vocals in one single song, yet both are so fitting.
LOL, I was surprised! My first time to see and hear the band, I was just curious checking out a PRS SE model named for him, found this link.. saw this dude that looks like a Bee Gees & Abba singer, I thought he'll just do some modern alternatives, and then the rest is history. Awesome band, tight riffs.
Lopez had style and was such a smoother drummer..Axe has a hard time replicating anything that Lopez did..you can hear it in any song that Axe plays that was originally done by Lopez. I remember I saw them in concert shortly after Lopez left the band, and Axe was struggling big time...he has gotten a lot better over the years, but I don't think anyone can play Lopez's beats like Lopez. He is on an entirely different level.
Opeth songs feel incomplete without Lopez infectious jazz sections... Every song was so atmospheric with mikael and his dynamic and change ups. Lopez was the soul of Opeth, driving 10 minute songs.. now it’s just technical dribble with a feel of branded expression. Like cradle of filth without Nick barker.
I love how even though his vocals are damaged from growling for almost 30 years, He still tries his hardest to do the growls as best as possible for everybody even if it hurts his vocals, I'm a gen z (Born 25th of December, 2005, I'm 15 as of rn) and I love them so much, I'm so sad that I was never into their music until now, I was only 11 when one of the guitarists (?) left and it saddens me that I'll never get to see them perform live, Same as Metallica,, But I love both bands music, I'm gonna wait for two bands to come out, As good as Opeth and Metallica, To be the next them, To be as good as they were, Opeth and Metallica will forever be a legacy
and yet his growl is still more appealing than any treble overshadowed growl i have heard in my like decade of listen to this music. not to mention his actual singing voice paired with his musical writing brilliance just destroys everything ever known to death metal and prog.
YAYAYAYAY Axe can pull off the intro now! Remember the time they played this song live and he could hardly keep up for a minute ? That was when Mendez had really short hair.
The others would hold me responsible and blame me for the way that THEY feel. They would have me believe that perhaps I should be ashamed of myself if I am beautiful , intelligent , and talented. I am not ashamed and I will not make myself look ugly just so others can feel better about their appearances. I will not apologize for being gifted and beautiful.
Just found this band by listening to "Sorceress".... now he is growly voicing... not my cup of tea... but the music is great. When he sings normally his voice reminds me of Todd Rungren and I like Todd Rungren.
he still has good mid-highs, his lows are just...yeah...awkward to listen to, but at least he can do it and still does it,even if its like for one song nowadays
It's pretty simple....if you are a real artist, you can only write and play what you are feeling. He doesn't "feel" the anger, etc, needed to be honest doing Death metal anymore. I'd rather him channel his creativity where his heart is and be true to himself as an artist, than to be just cranking out the same recycled shite the fans want, like Slayer. From there, it's up to the fan to decide if they want to walk that journey with the artist or not. It's that or risk becoming a "greatest hits band" like Maiden almost did.
" The fan to decide if ' they ' want to walk " and so on and so forth is incorrect sir. A fan is one person and would therefore not be referred to as " they ." You are obviously too much of a dolt to comprehend that your pronoun usage is erroneous.
I can't figure opeth out. I hear they're metal, so I go explore their music and it's opeth. Idk. Maybe my brain is too smooth for their music. I'll come back when I have more neuronal connections
The mix isn't focused on the kick drums enough, they just sound like a costant bass note throughout the whole song. The attack should be a top priority, especially when the kicks are so fast
what a fucking performance i can't believe how much i dislike death metal in general but i'd give anything to hear akerfeldt growl and sing to me all day
Before, I just knew that this band existed. The opening monolougue made me a fan.
Opeth was the metal band that got me into growly vocals cause their music is so beast.
+MrJoshItIs Same! I used to hate growling, but then I listened to Still Life and I was forever changed.
+Jonah Bazan Me too. I used to only listen to Dirge for November's first 2 minutes. One day, i took a chance and decided to listen to the rest of the song. I've been listening to Opeth ever since.
Same here, I still only like a handful of growling bands though. They need to bring more to the table.
willidub1 never was a fan of growls until i heard heir apparent..
mine was Dethklok! and then Opeth :D and this song is my favorite of them
I'm always amazed at how natural Opeth makes transitioning into cleaner vocals, and melodies, then straight back into the more metal sounds. Also Mikael's humor is drier than the damn desert, and its amazing.
5 people were probably hoping to find a Foo Fighters live performance here.
What's the problem with the foo fighters ?
Nothing.
I just need to believe that these 5 people who disliked this have clicked this video by mistake.
Fabiano Lourenço 5 people drowned in the drapery falls
+Silverbullet thats music for girls under 14
+Silverbullet everything
"That looks pretty fuckin stupid from here" lol!!! Master of dry comedy.
Master's Drycomedice
Hahahahaha he is so funny! "Don't blame me, I'm just a clockmaker from Swede" and how he makes everyone do headbangs without music and saying "That looks pretty stupid up here" hahahahahahaha
The crowd was so lucky to hear this one live!
They never play this
The voice of this guy (the clean voice, of course) is enough to save my day sometimes...
And this is no exaggeration.
Growling like a Demon and Clean Voice like an Angel.
Opeth and Gojira the 2 best bands in the world today. Fucking awesome.
amsedelm im with you brother
absolutely
+amsedelm Both are my favorite bands, I can't rank one higher than the other.
+amsedelm dethklok and liquid tension
LTE is awesome
one of greatest vocalist in death metal
I think that's the first old school Jazz Bass I've seen in metal. With pickup covers and everything.
And it’s cream colored!
sounds amazing to me, best death metal vocalist ever and then wow
agree
Subjective
He’s the best thing to ever happen to bloodbath
5:07 They agree
First song I ever heard from opeth, I was standing amongst the food dealers trying to eat my burger, I was wearing a slayer shirt and every two seconds some one would scream "SLAYERR!!" at me and so, naturally I had to respond, meanwhile I hear this insane double bass and riff in the background of the slayer offs, turn round and head for the stage it was coming from and I was stunned, ever since 2011 I've sweated all the older album's almost daily 🤣
I listen to this song while im driving to the college this is just perfect, if you're having a bad day for sure that this song is gonna change it
Miguel Lopez dude same with me it's always on my playlist to my college commute
It never ceases to amaze me how Mikael can go from the most diabolical of growls to the cleanest and prettiest vocals in one single song, yet both are so fitting.
I CAN SEE YOUNG VARG VIKERNES AT 5:09
Where?
@@josealejandrogarciarojas2218 I think it's the one with the helmet in the middle towards the bottom behind the guy staring at the camera.
@Sarkan Arkhé hahaha you got it. He looks like him on that picture on courts hearing.
LOL, I was surprised! My first time to see and hear the band, I was just curious checking out a PRS SE model named for him, found this link.. saw this dude that looks like a Bee Gees & Abba singer, I thought he'll just do some modern alternatives, and then the rest is history. Awesome band, tight riffs.
my favourite swiss band...
"Shut the fuck up, Axe."
Mikael is the best.
What a riff-tacular song.
Best band EVER!!!!!
why does badger from breaking bad play guitar for opeth?
OH MY GOD HE DOES LOOK LIKE HIM. Never noticed that...
OMG, exactly what i was thinking...Brandon Mayhew!!
I can't unsee!
Robert Blasingame LOL
The keyboardist also looks like Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden!
The bongo's of death standing ready next to the keyboards!
I'm a clock maker that's why my timing is so good. Lmfao I love Mikael
I love this man and band so much!
I haven't listen much to Opeth these days, but my their old stuff still kicks so much ass.
Yes, this is also my opinion. they WERE so great!!
My favorite opeth song 🤘
Such perfect harmonizations starting at 8:08 Opeth are really an amazing band
That snare snaps my spine with every relentless hit.
Actually his higher growls are still quite good, he only seems to have lost his lower voiced grunt
I believe he just uses a different technique live for the low growls, one that isn’t so harsh on his vocals
I miss Lopez drimming so f-ing much ...
I don't. I kinda like Axe better.
Totally. Lopez had soul, this one just hits the drumms
Me too. To me Opeth really changed when he left, not when the death metal stopped. I really like Axe on the new record though
Fredrik's improvisation has some nice little licks in there
I can't believe his voice is real!
I NEVER FORGET TO MIKAEL SINGING WHIT BLOODBATH....VERY HARD
same goes to me
I love how even though his vocals are damaged from growling for almost 30 years, He still tries his hardest to do the growls as best as possible for everybody even if it hurts his vocals, I'm a gen z (Born 25th of December, 2005, I'm 15 as of rn) and I love them so much, I'm so sad that I was never into their music until now, I was only 11 when one of the guitarists (?) left and it saddens me that I'll never get to see them perform live, Same as Metallica,, But I love both bands music, I'm gonna wait for two bands to come out, As good as Opeth and Metallica, To be the next them, To be as good as they were, Opeth and Metallica will forever be a legacy
Bro what were you talking about here 😂 they used the same setlist from the first leg
4:08 fucking sick
Fredrik is a great guitarist.
the best voice i ever heard live specially on this growling even tho i don't like growling but Mikail is literally killing it !
He used to have a better growl than this.
and yet his growl is still more appealing than any treble overshadowed growl i have heard in my like decade of listen to this music. not to mention his actual singing voice paired with his musical writing brilliance just destroys everything ever known to death metal and prog.
Mikael ripped my brain open and forced me to enjoy growls pretty much
I dont know Dave Grohl had a Progressive Death Metal band
Berly Tannyono Putra Me neither
Who is Dave Grohl? Mike´s son?
Fuck off with that basic pleb "musician". Weak flex my dude
He doesn't even look like Dave at all
The funny thing is Dave Grohl has a death metal band not many people know about
YAYAYAYAY Axe can pull off the intro now! Remember the time they played this song live and he could hardly keep up for a minute ? That was when Mendez had really short hair.
one of the best guturals around
John Rose has such an attractive appearance when he is adorned with an Opeth T-shirt !!
My god his voice sounds fucking fantastic here loved it :)
I go to Opeth concerts just for the comedy.
I have watched this too many damn times. This is such a solid song. That main guitar riff is heavy af
Best band ever
Super heavy song. Love the part where Mike points to Fred @4:08
One of their best riffs ever
Excellent Performance!!!!
I love this song!
8:04 one of the best clean singings I've ever heard.
Very good. What an experience.🔥🤘🏿
hes a great person
Take a look at real musical composition, Foo Fighters!
Fave song🙌🏼
Mikael has the best growl ever.
awesome band !!!!
He may be the best too ever do it guttural singing! But he’s cleans are flawless just imagine if they was as big as slipknot they’d rule the world!
Amazing sound quality
Just found this band by listening to "Sorceress".... now he is growly voicing... not my cup of tea... but the music is great. When he sings normally his voice reminds me of Todd Rungren and I like Todd Rungren.
His growl sounds so perfect.
His growl used to shake the bowels of Hell. Now, not so much.
he still has good mid-highs, his lows are just...yeah...awkward to listen to, but at least he can do it and still does it,even if its like for one song nowadays
No idea why he thinks the band is better now. They sounded so much better live years ago, backing vocals and everything.
I saw an interview where he explaining he couldn't do death metal any longer ...
It's pretty simple....if you are a real artist, you can only write and play what you are feeling. He doesn't "feel" the anger, etc, needed to be honest doing Death metal anymore. Crazy voice
I can't figure opeth out. I hear they're metal, so I go explore their music and it's opeth. Idk. Maybe my brain is too smooth for their music. I'll come back when I have more neuronal connections
best to just see them as a progressive rock band with influences of death metal, heavy metal and blues.
best to just see them as a progressive rock band with influences of death metal, heavy metal and blues.
божественный голос
Yeahhhh!!!!
So sad he doesn't growl anymore. I'm still a fan though.
Mikael is a true showman!
only 7 thousand views, what a world we live in
What do you mean by that? just asking
I mean theyre so talented there should be more views. the world is missing out.
Ain't that the truth, they don't see the guitar playing all they say is its screaming so they don't like it.
Drumming is on point. 😁
ROCKS!
Insane
Mikal is such a cool dude.
Headbanging por 10 minutos jajajaja luego porque no puedo alzar bien el cuello XD
Thats how the real music looks like ladies and gentlemen
The mix isn't focused on the kick drums enough, they just sound like a costant bass note throughout the whole song. The attack should be a top priority, especially when the kicks are so fast
what a fucking performance
i can't believe how much i dislike death metal in general but i'd give anything to hear akerfeldt growl and sing to me all day
Oh god that Shit the fuck up axe always makes me laugh hard
Love the way he pulls up his trousers at 10:50

Drummer’s double bass sounds like clouds are roaring, instead of water, raining blood
