    • @GeneralMechanicGA

      Do you mean to remove the harmonic balancer pulley or to tighten the bolt after the timing belt has been installed?
      And all depends on what job you are doing then you might be able to use different tools!

    • @kevinbrislawn5918
      @kevinbrislawn5918 Před 6 lety +1

      I figured a 1/2 inch drive impact (electric) heavy duty power tool will release the mm bolt? what size is it ? 19mm? When you tighten the upper camshaftt sproket (tool to use) as well.
      I wanted to know how to tighten the lower bolt to the 150ft lb.. torque How do you hold the pulley in place so it wont turn while you tighten the bolt.? What tool do you use to hold the pulley in place while tightening with the torque wrench

    • @GeneralMechanicGA
      @GeneralMechanicGA  Před 6 lety

      K B
      Yes is a 19mm
      Look an electric may do it but i had no luck with that..
      An air gun is the best way to do it!!
      But ill tell you that the best way to tight the lower bolt the best way i found was to remove the two bolt to the starter and get a good pry bar or a rally big screw driver and have some assistance to hold the flywheel..
      Not the upper bolt since is not too much torque the belt should be enough to hold it!
      But an screw driver should hold it too

    • @bernardocisneros4402
      @bernardocisneros4402 Před 9 měsíci

      The hole on the camshaft pulley should not line up with the hole on the camshaft. The hole on the camshaft pulley should line up with the groove/knotch on camshaft. If you do it any other way, you can damage your engine because there's a possibility valves and piston collide with each other.

    • @bernardocisneros4402
      @bernardocisneros4402 Před 9 měsíci

      Why would you hammer the harmonic balancer on? If there's rust on crankshaft or harmonic balancer, clean it off and put some oil on crankshaft and harmonic balancer and use the bolt to put it on.

  • @dbfcrell8300
    @dbfcrell8300 Před 4 lety +1

    Can you tell me if the crank cog alignment mark puts the crank at exactly the same angle as if you had used the crank pulley's 0 dwell mark? In other words, are these both valid alignment marks which either can be used for timing belt installation?

    • @GeneralMechanicGA
      @GeneralMechanicGA  Před 4 lety

      They both are valid, the only think could be that the plastic not be in exact location or not enough access to the tensioner to timing belt!

    • @dbfcrell8300
      @dbfcrell8300 Před 4 lety

      @@GeneralMechanicGA Ok, I've been asking a bunch of people this same question. You are the only one who answered. So my thanks. The people that did my t-belt used the pulley dwell 0 mark to get the crank alignment. The car has not been getting as good gas mileage, but runs great. I was just curious if both marks are the same.

    • @bernardocisneros4402
      @bernardocisneros4402 Před 9 měsíci

      @@dbfcrell8300 I do these all the time. The most important marks that need to be lined up are the ones on the crankshaft sprocket and engine block, and the hole on camshaft pulley and groove on camshaft. As long as these are lined up, you're good to go. I never look to see if 0 mark on plastic cover is lined up with notch on crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) because the tolerance is 0 to 10 degrees, so as long as it's close to zero, you're fine. I'm pretty sure your belt is 1 or 2 teeth out of alignment. This misalignment could cause a rich condition. If all timing marks on camshaft and crankshaft line up (I'm not talking about 0 on plastic cover, I couldn't care less about that) then belt is fine and hasn't jumped any teeth. Also make sure bolt on crankshaft was torqued to 80 ft-lbs. If it comes loose, it can also cause the issue you're having. I don't know if you did the job or someone else did it. If someone else did it, check to make sure there isn't a jumper between test terminals E1 and TE1. If there is, remove it. Let me know what it was.

    Can you rotate the crank shaft indepently? With out the belt on will it be out of time with the camshaft? Is it really as simple as lining up the marks?

    Just did a water pump on one of these today. Will say, proabbly the most bull shit set of timing Mark's I ever seen. I turned the engine to tdc and highlighted a tooth , the belt and a set spot behind the camshaft that didnt move , used that as my tdc mark for my cam. I also highlighted a crank gear cog , belt and set point behind it . Slid off the belt and rotated it twice when I put the belt back on , was doing just the water pump but almost never got it right but I got it lol

    A client called me to check is Toyota Camry 2000 model with a 5sfe engine which always have a broken timing belt about 4 days after replacement. When I examined the car the only thing I saw that seems to be faulty was that the belt was weak, not really tensioned. The engineers have replaced the timing belt adjuster but to no prevail, the belt keeps cutting off.
    There was no oil on the belt that could be responsible for that.
    Please help me, what could be causing the belt to cut frequently?

(its rotted where the big hose sits when clamped. I was away on a trip to the mountains. I also found out my transmission is bad. slips when trying to overtake or pressing the gas pedal more than a normal drive.. probably was bad when we got the car cause the atf was brown and burnt but i thought it was good cause it shifts gears at proper speeds but has no power on hills or when "flooring it" :/ now im saving up for a new(used) transmission. theres one just like mine in matamoros(mexican city next to brownsville, tx)
