I really enjoyed this particular case, it was very intriguing and yet sad, too. Mr. Whiteley was a "despicable" womanizer who didn't care about his wife, mistresses or the children he fathered, period! Do you know whatever happened to Horace's wife and children? Great investigation, presentation, backstories, illustrations, photos and videos, too. Happy New Year 2024 to Mr. Robin Coles and the team.🎈🎈🎈
Glad you liked it! 🤗No, we do not know. The Whiteley family closed ranks - we do not believe they gave any support to Horace's claims - at least we have find no eveidence of any support given to him or his family. It is interesting to us how sometimes one's actions can have a terrible rippling efefct on others. A rather sad case.😔
Wishing Mr C, the NotT crew and all your subs a very Happy New Year!! Let's have a good 2024. 🥂🍾🎈🎆🎊
Happy new year!🍷🍷🍾🍾🍺🍺your continued support and contributions are so very much appreciated ❤️
Oh, how we loved going to Whiteley's in the 70s.
The Whiteley story is quite interesting! The introduction of the depoartmnet store had a terrible impact on the local stores and they reacted strongly. Like many things, once you uncork the genie, there is no going back. Whitely was burnt in effigy on one occassion. He was tremendously hated by fellew tradesmen. That battle between department stores and local businesses continues to this day, at least here in the UK. 🤔
Happy New Year and thank you for all the interesting stories 🍾🥂
Same to you!

Happy new year 🍾🍾🍷🍷🍺🍺let’s continue our journey in 2024…. Exciting times
I wonder did Julian Fellowes use this case as the basis for “Gosford Park”? The basic story is almost identical - 2 sisters ‘seduced’ by wealthy employer, a child is thus born who, as an adult kills his (presumed) father.
Execellent question! 👍We don't know, but yes, we can certainly see the similarities and the timing would not be that far off too, although there was no hint of aristocracy in the Whiteley saga and we do not really know what the wife was like, although most probably put on a bit - she must have known what was going on.
Thanks for the spoiler
I enjoyed this story. I felt for the Horace Rayner. People were not being honest with him about who his true father was. So sad.
Yes, he had loads and loads of sympathy at the time and the Whiteley family had difficultyminimising the damage. poor guy - you can see why he went to Whiteley. 😔
We are glad you enjoyed this tale
Thank you for your support
A very happy new year to you and yours 🙏
