    Looking at this item too. I have the Scarlett 4i4, which gives 4 mono inputs into my DAW, but they also show in stereo pairs like 1-2 and 3-4. The key is how 12 individual tracks plus the master mix can all show up separately in YOUR DAW THRU ONE USB!
    That is how this thing makes sense. For me, it means I will not be SWAPPING cables around all the time because I want to record a different instrument, and I can record the band simultaneously and master everybody's tracks individually in the DAW. Gonna buy this bad boy! The keys are the multiple tracks across USB and the power this gives your DAW. Sorry I'm repeating myself but dang, this is cool.

      Can you tell / explain how the USB return works in a DAW (Studio One) do I just assign each track back to the mixer as an output to the particular channel and then I can mix my multitrack recording on the console instead of in the box (daw) ?

    • @wyreduprecordingstudio4701
      @wyreduprecordingstudio4701 Před rokem

      @@supersonicsroots Exactly. The USB RTN button basically changes the input to an output to send tracks out to. But it can also be used with an input, like a guitar or a mic, at the same time. It's called a virtual insert. Using your plugins as inserts, like guitar sims or auto tune. Works splendidly.

    I love my Soundcraft 12MTK. Currently recoding 11 mics/inputs for our band. The Mixes come out amazing, because I can get in there an really EQ/Compress/De-Ess all of the individual channels. It so much more pro level to be able to work on this level vs. a simple stereo output channel. By the way, I love the Ghost Pre-Amps. Very Quiet. One of the most feature rich multitrack mixers you can buy for a home studio. Simply Amazing. You have actually gone into a lot more detail with the USB/digital routing you can do in the box as well. I still feel like I'm not using this thing to its full potential and I am already pushing it. Best money ever spent on gear for sure!!!!!!!

    Wait. Don't listen to haters, i LIKE the fact that you're using Behringer. Of course we all know of their occasional engineering mishaps and general quality issues, but they do take their mission of giving creatives what they want and need cheaper than anyone else quite seriously! If you can get your work done with one of those for years, then so can your audience. I bet most Behringer haters are just bandwagoning and don't actually have first-hand experience.
    But this thing you got recommended here IS unique and interesting and quite affordable too!

    I'm using this mixer for home studio and it's really great and versatile. Also noteworthy is it's class compliant and has a power USB port on the front panel. Which means you can technically record without computer using an iPhone connected to it with Garageband or similar app. In terms of footprint, you can make it even smaller by unscrewing the two cheeks, or replace them with thinner wood-made ones :)

    Hi there i have this mixer in my studio and you have yours setup in a way your actually disabling the fucntions of it channel 11/12 and used as the master track when used in the way with each channel on the mixer being sent to your internal tracks and 11/12 being sent to the master
    this is done this way so you can capture any eqs at the desk or gain staging so 11/12 to you master and then the master split to aux out for recording
    on the master channel you have a INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL LISTEN
    when in external listen mode in a daw or program you can capture any tracks but for you it would make more sense to work in external mode and send everything back in and down 11/12 and that to the master then you can mix anything you like and take calls down both channels
    by all means when in a recording mode you can ignore the channel being panned and send a left and right or a doubled mono track back
    in recording mode you can wire it anyway you want the layout for grouping of tracks are for when the mixer is in a daw mixing mode but during recording ANYTHING GOES
    so the desk can fully meet your needs just 11/12 isnt just for systems sounds its your master track that loopback in combination with the master track
    if you want any info on how i have mine set by all means drop us a message

      It routes only the track with PFL pressed to the headphone jack without modifying the mix which is what I understood a solo button to be, but this is also my first mixer so maybe I missed something that's more useful about other solo buttons.

    • @The8BitDuke
      @The8BitDuke Před 6 lety +1

      It's been my experience with SOME mixers that Solo In Place functions are 'destructive' - they sometimes mute all other inputs and affect the mix buss in order to monitor the input. I think the issue is how some label what their "solo" does. I think the most desired effect for this unit would be a AFL so you can hear more than just the input pre-fader, since that's what's going to your main mix. PFLs are great for checking your headroom or just checking a source is there before you turn a fader on, since PFLs will let you listen to a source even if the fader's at zero. I've almost always seen these all together, or at the very least an AFL labeled as SOLO or SIP. But when things are labeled solo without the others, I've found they just mute the other inputs on the monitor and the main mix outputs, rather than 'cueing' a signal like an AFL, which I think we almost always want both AFL and PFL, rather than the 'correct' SIP function.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  Před 6 lety

    The Yamaha MG12XUF is an amazing mixer with this "special" feature in addition to having the ability to group channels and route them to a master volume control so you don't have to control them individually. It's also cheaper with more effects and an actual power switch.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  Před 2 lety

      Everything and everyone I have found that can/has tested it has confirmed both the 12 and 10 from that line only present a 2/2 USB interface to Windows. You can access each input over ASIO, that's very common, but useless for streaming and video conferencing, OBS, screen recording, basically everything except music. That's what's "special" about this, as it didn't exist on anything cheaper prior to the GoXLR and PreSonus Revelator devices.

      @@EposVox When looking at your other video featuring the Yamaha mixer, it looks like you just have a cheap soundcard problem, which by the way is not with 99% of computers unless you don't know how to build your own.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  Před 2 lety +1

      There is no “cheap soundcard problem” - the mixer itself does NOT send more than a stereo pair up and down over USB, thus it doesn’t have the feature that was my selling point for the SoundCraft. Other sound cards are completely irrelevant to that point as they have nothing to do with it.
      Those Yamaha mixers do not give separate devices for the inputs to Windows, only a final stereo mix. Thus it’s not a better nor cheaper solution for that specific reason this entire thing was about.

    I havent got a hold of this mixer but i was thiking.... Why dont you use the master LR instead of 1/2 input. In that way you will get a stereo output for every mono input u r using. Even if you are recording it directly, wont the mono signal (eg:- channel 1 mic) gets recorded like in 2 monos(L&R)? Provided if you dont do any panning and keep the channel at the centre?

If that’s true then maybe it’s ok for pod casting etc, but useless for recording a live band. I was looking at this because I thought id get at least the eight XLR Chanel’s as independent inputs in the DAW.

Why not use 7/8 and 9/10 channels for discord/skype and other calling stuff. Those two channels give sound in both left and right. And as far as I can see the only difference here is that 1 and 2 has limiter.
    Sorry for commenting and old video but this part was really confusing while I was waiting for my MTK12 and I was a little bit worried for this.

      I think you mixed up my complaint - I do use 5/6 for discord/skype. Output is not the problem. The problem is microphones only go in 1 input at a time so it's only 1 instead of both 1 and 2

    I don't know about Skype but discord mixes your microphone down to mono, my current audio interface only outputs my mic on line 1 to the left side and it comes out on both sides from discord

    • @Valiant8086
      @Valiant8086 Před 3 lety

      Yeah. If you put the mic in channel 2 you wouldn't hear anything on Skype at least, which records from the left side only. Not sure about discord either. But the real problematic situation with this comes in when you talk to people on Team Talk in a stereo channel. You could probably go to sounds, recording tab, click on the wdm driver for channels 1/2, properties, advanced tab or hardware tab and set the sample rate to a mono option. I don't have this mixer though so I'm stabbing in the dark.
      That would mix 1/2 down to stay in the middle I think. Then the issue becomes, what if you want to pan yourself? Lots of mixers can let you set pan on each mic channel to move yourself a bit. With this mono trick that won't work. Also if you get effects to come in on that channel somehow, any reverbs would be forced down to mono.

Indeed, in OBS I see a single source (the 12MTK) as an audio option but not individual channels (1-2, 3-4, etc). It looks like the drivers on Soundcrafts website is PC Specific and in the manual (from what I see) it states that on Mac no extra drivers are needed. What am I missing?

    • @jromeplays
      @jromeplays Před 5 lety

      no.... I think it depends on how you are running it? For example. I use Mic 1/2 for speaking audio. In OBS, you change the gain to on that input to your required level. Also you need to make sure your signal is hot enough in the mixer itself. It took me a week to get a solid grasp on the full function of this mixer and how to use it with the USB returns, etc. I use the USB returns for things like separating the audio in say Skype or discord, etc. For my MIC, I use a DBX286s with my Shure SM7B, then run that to the mixer. Its hard to say with out knowing your exact setup and actually seeing it. Some of these things are hard to diagnose long distance. I did have a problem with the USB connection going out, and had to send the unit it to get fixed, but they covered it under warranty.

    • @Rr0gu3_5uture

      Most younger people are confused with this mixer because Soundcraft assumes that you're primarily going to use the mixer in the traditional way that you would with an analog mixing desk, recording your final mix to a 2 track master, most young people have never done this, this is why it's so confusing. With this mixer you have 12 Physical Inputs that record 14 channels of Audio In and have 12 channels of Audio Out, Channel 13/14 has no physical input because these channels are used to record the Master Stereo Out. A traditional recording session would be like this, I suppose: 6 Mono instruments, (say Mics) and 3 Stereo instruments (say 2 synths & a drum machine) are simultaneously Recorded Into your DAW over USB making up 12 channels of audio, this audio is recorded into your DAW with NO EQ, and typically no FX. All 12 channels that you recorded into your DAW are then sent Back Out from your DAW Thru Any Channel that you want on the mixing desk (but typically the same channel) you do this by pressing the USB RTN channel buttons on the mixing desk (and also by setting up the Outs in your DAW) , you then playback your finished track adding EQ, Effects Panning etc. Once you're happy with your mix you setup a Stereo Audio track to Record your Final Stereo Mix on Channel 13/14, this is the Stereo Master Out on your mixer. If you wanted to record all 12 channels but mix inside the Box/DAW, you could just route all 12 audio channels through the default stereo playback channel, which is Channels 11/12 (With No EQ), then record to Channels 13/14. It's kinda confusing at first, but the routing possibilities this mixer offers does make it ridiculously flexible.

  • @Valiant8086
    @Valiant8086 Před 3 lety

    Must all channels be exposed as pairs, or can you record 1 by itself to get it to be mono while you are able to record 7/8 or 5/6 etc as stereo? That issue you mentioned where you're only in one channel with your mic seems like a show stopper to me. Did you have to use software to configure USB routing or is that all done on the board. I'm blind and curious if this will let me record from Rode nt1a, add at least one line level stereo input, add enough USB ins and outs to get a full mix recording for the recording program and have mix minus channels that are stereo for Team Talk and Skype. I also want the effects and eq to show up for normal recording programs recording from the full mix. It seems audio interfaces like Focusrite are not usable with the screen reading programs under Windows, so I have been told. If this can handle that without software, wow.
