    England were disappointing. I thought Clinton played well and not sure why she was subbed if I’m honest. I get the desire to retain possession but I thought Charles at LB seemed to choose the pass back as the default and there was too much sideways stuff at the back which made it easy for Sweden to get into defensive shape.

    In the game England seemed to amazed that their opponents chased every ball, every time. Sweden would never be a team that would sit back and let England play the game they planned/hoped for. That's a management problem.

    That was a fun exchange at the end. The game was too slow from England and once again, sloppy mistakes in possession were too common. Sarina is a top manager and can see all of that, but we could easily have lost that game if Sweden had been more clinical. Where I would praise Sarina though is in her starting some newer players, because avoiding predicatability is important moving forward. And to be fair, the England goal came from that starting 11. Sweden always play a highly competitive 1v1 game and are very organised. That is why they have a great history in tournaments.

      I’m the last 10 minutes we went all out attack. Shame we didn’t play that way for the whole game because Sweden were rocking then

    • @Teaspooncat
      @Teaspooncat Před měsícem

      @@paulchristopher8634 That happened only because Sweden subbed off Frido and Stina. It was nothing England did that changed the game. Before that substitution a small alteration had already been made when Ruben - who hasn't played with the team in a while due to injury - came on and didn't have her best performance, which resulted in Sweden's play becoming less offensive. Probably her being more of a defensive midfielder than Angeldal also had an effect. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a strategic decision from the coach to attack only when a good opportunity arises and just focus more on defending the draw (which they did well tbh)

  • @Stand663
    @Stand663 Před měsícem +5

    England it seems mostly play the ball sideways and backwards. If you play forward, it means ur opponent have to defend, and thus can’t threaten your goal.

    • @keithknight1686
      @keithknight1686 Před měsícem +1

      Couldn't agree more. Playing the ball across our own penalty area causes me palpitations. It was a no-no when I played the game.

    • @scotchegg9797
      @scotchegg9797 Před měsícem +1

      Think the team is over coached, each player takes the same set positions, and plays the same set passes, it's so formulaic, easy to pick off. They look very soft through the middle as well. If Sweden were more switched on they'd have knocked a few over the top down the middle more often.

    • @keithknight1686
      @keithknight1686 Před měsícem

      @@scotchegg9797 On this occasion I agree. It will improve once Williamson is back in the team as she has the both ability to snuff out attacks and pass the ball to start attacks. James needs to play in behind the front players to give full rein to go where she pleases - she is being over-coached, Emma Hayes allows her to roam - and with Hemp's ability to cross into the penalty area, I would prefer Daly to be playing. I see no point playing a centre-forward in the middle of the pitch, where Alessia does most of her work. that said, the draw was a fair result and there is no need to be downhearted. It's all about qualifying.

      England's best player by a mile is Hemp, the only one who drives forward and tries injecting a little variation and pace into the game, the others are drilled to pass it 5 yards in little set patterns.

    I also was at Wembley and was surprised at the amount of ‘dangerous’ passing back and lack of shape in the midfield. At times, England stood still and dribbled the ball at walking pace. Playing with energy and conviction in the 80th min is too late and far too hopeful a tactic to adopt. I thought Bronze had a pretty good game and connected the defence to the midfield/attack well but she’s not as fast or as tall as some players she plays against which is highlighted when the defence is troubled. I think Stanway, Toone and Walsh were poor on Friday. James looks lazy on the ball and while she’s talented, struggles in hard games when she’s marked closely.

    • @richard6440

      I believe it was the perfect storm. A World class coach , a team of world class players , and a belief in themselves. Home advantage helped , but looking at all their games , from when Sarina took charge , up to and including the Euro Final , England were being coached brilliantly , and the players understood what she wanted , and when they found that they were outplaying the top teams , the belief went ballistic, as if they were released . To play with skill that some of the players never knew they had. All the way to the WC Final , where Spain shut them down. And the Nations League was just one goal difference. One goal away from being drawn in Pot A, rather than Pot B. one goal. Sarina has been breath of fresh air for the England team , and the England fans.
