As a football fan, I can’t express how much I love Katie McCabe. Excellent win at the beautiful Aviva Stadium for the Lionesses. Leah Williamson as captain was phenomenal, she hasn’t missed a beat. There really isn’t anyone in word football like her. Hampton was really solid in goal, made a couple of phenomenal saves. Those last 25 minutes, my heart was in my mouth. Ireland were relentless but we defended brilliantly. As a Liverpool fan I know the how dangerous Campbell’s long throws are. Back to back games against France next for the Lionesses. Speaking of that great to hear Liverpool’s club captain Niamh Fahey on comms, her and Seb Hutchinson were great. Second penalty was harsh on Ireland so the miss was justice. Those are humongous long throws btw. Good win for England but not quite as comfortable as they may have liked.
These referees are guessing the game cuz the second penalty was very harsh …they are very bad even in the EPL too…

She was assigned to mark Russo and prevent her from receiving the ball. She did everything she could including raising her hand, and it came into the path of the ball. Yes, so penalty.
The commentator should not have said, "Where do you expect her to put her hand ?"

I think both penalties were silly. There was an interesting discussion among TV experts on German TV after the Arsenal Bayern. game. For those who haven't watched it: Arsenal defender and goalie are pretty much alone in the box and 6 yard area. Next Bayern and Arsenal player is at least at a 10 - 12 meter distance. Goalie plays a lame slow pass to defender who has a black out bows down and grabs the ball with his hands. Bayern players were furious especially as they claim the referee told them he's not going to award childish pens. One expert agreed arguing we should go back to the old days when the "intention to gain an unfair advantage" was an important part of the decision.
That 2nd penalty.award is a joke & I'm English. The authorities need to stop messing about with the rules because nobody knows what a penalty is anymore. Never a penalty,.deflecting onto her arm from all of 3mm

With this referee it is more profitable to kick the ball on opponent than on the goal. Free penalty kicks at will.

Very flattering scoreline for England. Those penalty calls were atrocious. Neither were even close to being a pen.
That was one of their best games for a while . Like watching last Euro's plenty of aggression ,by Lionesses . I certainly would not have let Greenwood take two penalties . Harry Caine did same thing when he took two except his went into orbit . Nice to see some fresh faces as well.

Based off highlights England were the better team and could have scored another 2 maybe, Ireland at least 1. Something for both teams to work on in training. Looked like a fun game.

England supporter here, can somebody explain involuntary hand ball.
It is a hand ball, if the ball touches a hand/arm that is clearly raised above the shoulder. The new rule introduced in 2020 weakened the intent/no intent part of the rule, which was a good thing IMHO, referees are very bad at mind-reading.
There is no such thing if arms are away from the body.
It's why you see the players with their fingers in their bums while in the box.
It's a maddening part of the game.
Only God can handle a ball and get away with it.
It's a penalty whether it's intentional or not.

England sure knew how to pass the ball around, they often made it look pretty but without getting anywhere. Before the match Eni Aluko got it spot on what Alessia Russo's role would be but none of the other players seem to have heard that. No-one served her a decent delivery, when they did try the pass was overhit and ended being a goal kick. It makes me wonder what instructions the coaching staff and manager are giving. Russo (substituted yet again) must be as frustrated as hell at being played but not used to her proper ability. Once again last night all our backs spent far too long passing the ball around without making significant progress towards the goal where they were meant to scoring.
We won; to the manager it seems that's all that matters. I disagree.

If England and Ireland and Scot, Wales can get together on a unify team for the World Cup, wouldn't they have a much stronger team(bigger pool of talent) then 4 seperate team? also I know during Olympic, GB will be force to send in a unify team(if quaify), but since normally GB team is (England), won't the Olympic team be dominate by England player since their player and coach been working together much longer!?
