5 Exercises To Help Improve Hip Internal Rotation Mobility & Stability

  • This is a quick video that looks at some simple exercises you can use to improve your hip mobility and more specifically hip internal rotation. This is often a movement that is easily overlooked as we tend to focus so much on external rotation and strengthening of the glutes which is a good thing. However, we must remember that we need to maintain good alignment of the hips and still be able to perform this movement or we risk putting the hip at risk of injuries like Sacroiliac Dysfunction, Piriformis Syndrone, and hip impingement (FAI) which will further exacerbate weaknesses and imbalances that already exist.
    You have to take care with these exercises if you know you have trouble with your hip as they can easily aggravate things if you try to force them or go too hard. It is all about trying to improve their efficiency and control of the femur rotation within the hip joint.

    These exercises can be very difficult to do and even aggravate areas of the hip if you try to push them too hard so take your time and if it hurts back off and work on simple drills instead for a bit longer. While they are not the only thing you need to do they can help to put the missing pieces together towards the end of a rehabilitation program that you may have missed.
