Someone needs to study the recent revolution that is the UK in Eurovision. They really decided "We're done with what we've been doing and now want to get serious again" This looks to be one of the best stagings of the season, and Olly sounds really good!
I think the zero points that James got was so humiliating than the BBC start playing the game
@treatpeoplewithkindness2955 yes it was really embarrassing, but deserved. BBC seemingly needed to be humiliated in order to wake up and make an effort.
It IS the best
I don't think it needs to be studied, it's quite simple really. The BBC, who couldn't be bothered, simply handed over the reins to an actual music company who had a better finger on the pulse of mainstream music and pop culture, so inevitably, it was going to be an improvement. There was more investment in young, social media conscious artists like Sam Ryder, Mae Muller and Ollie, who could use it as a springboard for their solo careers. It almost pays in future album sales, touring and advertising to get these up and coming artists, rather than older, established stars simply looking for a comeback.

This is a seminal moment in Eurovision history , iconic performance and staging , I did not expect this and as it will be performed in full in the first semi final it will go viral over the next 4 days all over Europe . I strongly suspect this will win .

I’ve always thought the staging would elevate this and it sounds as if it really has! The revamped elements sound really intriguing too. Between this and a solid vocal performance I think this could do very well next Saturday, especially with the juries

The staging so so good! Finally the uk decided to actively participate in the competition and actually get a good placement in the final. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 every review i have seen was positive as for now, so that speaks volumes about the quality of the performance. Of course that wouldn’t be possible without having a good song as well^^
To be fair, we in the UK always wanted to compete and do well, but the BBC was long in charge and didn't give us much to choose from in the 2000s.
The UK has the best staging this year hands down. I was completely blown away and think this will do a lot better than most probably thought. About Paul Oscar though I personally think he was maybe a few years too early when back then the contest was a lot more conservative and a suit and tie affair looking at the audience and orchestra. If he did that in the early noughties I really think he’d have won.

The song has been revamped to totally elevate the ending with a big climax but no mention even though wiwibloggs (William especially) have been so negative about Olly's voice & the song, yet not mention. This is no secret, it's in the public domain. I'm surprised you didn't know this.
I'm really interested in that new ending! The problem from the start with this song and Olly singing it Live, is that it's in the wrong key (to high) for him to sing it on pitch at these last final notes. In a clinical VEVO-situation he managed, barely, in the studio (enhanced) also, but Live, he was struggling and didn't make it after Madrid.
Falsetto is not for everyone, I always say. He is no Paul (Sugar Baby Love) Da Vinci, Frankie Valli or ...: Nemo. His Falsetto is just to weak to project a powerful, big ending (+ often Off-Key). Joell Fender (UK's best backing singer) will probably have to save him on this one, though not visible on stage like at the pre-parties this time.
It really is a nice radiosong, even one of my guilty pleasures, but after this ordeal, Olly will have to lower his key to gain more control over his voice. Live it is just annoyingly wavery (seen him perform 4 times). But I do give him this: he is a very accomplished songwriter an he'll bounce back.
Seemingly there is another middle 8 before the final chorus.
If we don't have Sinan in reaction videos. This content will be 100 times better 👍with love and respect for everyone 🙏

UK staging looks like Madonna - Erotica
I'm loving this staging. But I know it's not for everyone. In general young queer people would like to be represented with less 'shocking' acts? It's history all over. Queer people just want to be normal, falling in love, blending into society as a regular person, so for some, this just doesn't cut it.
That being said, love how this staging is risky, and we'll have to find out how it lands in Europe. Will go very well with older queers, but not so sure about the young ones or regular viewers.

I appreciate the effort in this staging, but I think it could be too raunchy. Also, it doesn't fit the lyrics, i.e. what does a grubby tiled boxing gym with sweaty men have to do with beautiful gardens and eternal flowers? It doesn't make sense. It will certainly have an impact though and can't be forgotten once seen.

ESC stopped being a family show long time ago. The most popular performers used to represent their country. Now most of them don't even consider wasting their talent. It's like an alphabet community show.
I like the boxing scene but as soon as the same "boxers" start dancing a pop video choreo, it loses the authenticity for me. Boxers should keep doing martial arts or just leave the stage then and not become Lady Gaga's background dancers. Mixed feelings.
