Nothing wrong with name dropping when you can tell good and true stories.
Agreed.
I agree typically, but I disagree if that’s all you ever do. Like Neal.
@@L4-295 That's because most people want to hear his stories about the comedic legends he rubbed shoulders with throughout his career, and who TF wouldn't drop those names if you had the same experiences. Too many people don't even realize who Neal is these days, so it's amusing that you'd try to act like he's doing it for some purely selfish motivation. That just seems like a YOU issue....
“When I met Obama, I wasn’t nervous because I met Eddie Murphy” what an incredible sentence to say outloud
Imagine being that much of a douchebag.
Devrin Google thats a weird take
I almost got hit by a car during the L.A. riots, I was in new York, he was here.
Spoiler alert
Devrin Google it makes sense. Neal probably grew up idolizing Eddie.
"I was almost hit by a car during the L.A. riots. I was in New York at the time."
Yeah whats that mean?😜
“I walked through blood and bones on the streets of New York during 9/11 looking for my brother” “he was in northern Canada at the time”
How he snuck it in so succinctly was so freakin gangsta!!! Dope as hell!
Saint Sacrifice I think he was saying he almost got hit by a car (in New York) while the LA riots were going on.
Bruv.. that slide in was shmooooove.
Hold up, everyone who’s calling out Neal for name dropping: Tom brought up Eddie Murphy, and of course they’re gonna talk about Chappelle, the guys were writing partners for years! Then he brought up that one uncomfortable time he met Cosby. That’s not a name drop. Get off it.
I know right. It’s like my friend Tom Hanks always says, “leave me and my family alone you son of a bitch.”
Justin Coleman..... 😂😂😂😂; ahh yeah?? My little buddy Tommy Cruise says the same thing!!
Justin Coleman You’re friends with Tom Hanks?
This man was half way responsible for blessing us with the greatest sketch comedy show of all time, with the greatest comedian of all time.......why would that topic NOT come up during a podcast? Shit.
Eddie has been out more telling good stories
“Someone in your bloodline is going to be world famous.” 😂 🤣 Spoken like a true psychic.
Thank you for your comment. I predict someone you’ve heard of will do something great.
People should recognize Neal as one of the all time greats of comedy. An iconic sketch writer and an excellent stand up
I didn't know Neal Brennan did All That. That's great.
Rhysbans now he makes Nike commercials for 20 mil a pop lol
Dave's talked about it before
What is “All That”?
The dude has had an amazing life and has met tons of ppl. Let him drop a few names lol
You talk about him like he's 70 years old lol
@@voteZDLR hes only 65
HE IS A COMEDIC GENIUS. THANK HIM FOR THE COMPLETED SKITS ON CHAPPELLE.
Exactly lol
I'd be less inclined to take him to task for name dropping if it wasn't for the fact that he constantly does it in every single interview that I've ever seen him do. He lucked into a gig with Dave Chappelle and he's been living off that connection ever since.
Brennan is amazing. His 3 mics special or whatever is great. It's so nice to see his set/special with his own voice.
Agreed!
I agree completely. It was excellent.
the craziest thing about Neil is that his brother is Kevin Brennan
I like Neal and 3 mics was not good
3 mics was incredible! Glad that there’s people out here recognizing him for his talent coz granted as great as Dave is, Neal has basically been cast in Dave’s shadow.. but he very much deserves his own props
"I almost got ran over in the LA riots I was in new York at the time" 😂😂😂
Eddie broke racials barriers in South Africa with his movies , during the height of the apartheid regime, He changed a lot of young white ppl minds !

Neal and Patrice were working on a show together befor his passing.
Fuck me that would have been legendary
That would have been fucking awesome. I always thought Patrice just needed that 1 vehicle to send him into the stratosphere while he was alive
It would be remarkable if they were working on it after his passing.
Patrice is on the "Playa Haters Ball" sketch
Patrice is king he made me piss my pants drunk in person
My favorite Chapelle show thing I heard was that Samuel L Jackson was sitting next to Prince at an NBA game & he asked him if the Charlie Murphy bit about him was true, and Prince said to him "They had on church shoes"
"Throw me the fuckin... heart or whatever" lol Neil Brennan is probably one of the most underappreciated comics there is
I feel like I may be one of the only humans that actually got to see half baked in the theater when it came out. My buddy and I convinced my Dad to take us to see it. Titanic seemed awful. We had no idea what Good Will Hunting was. So we went to see Half Baked lol.
I'm sure I went to see it there. It maybe I got a knock off and watched it at my mates. But it was the same time as Titanic!
I saw it in the theaters. On a date. She thought it was dumb. I loved it first time I saw it.
I got to see it in theaters as well. It was me, my sisters, cousin, aunt and uncle planned on seeing a movie. My aunt (probably my sisters as well) really wanted to see Titanic, but my uncle wanted to see something that will “make him laugh” so Half Baked won. Definitely the better choice.
That's one of those movies that isn't even necessary to see in theater. It's better at home with THE HOMIES
Neil is SUPER OLD SCHOOL....This dude just mentioned, "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" ...That's an all-time fave of mine!!
I think that was the first movie where I laughed until my stomach and my cheeks hurt.
I looked up Dave Edwards - he's the "Boo this man!" guy from Half Baked.
I love how Tom summons Sickler's laughter right before he mentions him.
This was the coolest interview. Neal Brennan your stories are the bomb. I never knew that about Eddie Murphy. The whole destiny thing blew my mind! If I was your kid I’d be constantly bragging and telling all the other kids about how cool my Dad is. When you go back and watch Delirious Murphy's so funny it’s insane by anyone’s standards. He’s a total legend.
Even Chappelle borrows his jokes. In the new special, Dave talks about advising Obama to run in a zigzag pattern (to avoid snipers), Eddie essentially made the same joke, referring to the first black president, in Delirious. Which I'm pretty sure he named after the Prince song, now that I think of it.
czcams.com/video/2dHgeV9zMCI/video.html
"The first time I went to his house..." What a flex!
He has probably hung out with Eddy Murphy a lot with Charlie Murphy being on the Chapelle show.
That Cosby joke at the end was funny as hell.
@8:38 Probably the funniest thing said in the whole thing and he just throws it away like a candy wrapper. "I was in New York." LMFAO
So glad the newer podcasts have timestamps love Neal thanks!
It's funny how regular people can't understand how famous people might actually know famous people enough to be able to casually use their name in a sentence when talking about work.
Correct but you gotta admit he just name drops 100% of the time 😂
Ow!!! Shit my toe, I’ll be alright it’s just another name.
It's really funny how the hosts literally ask him questions about famous people he knows, and he answers them using their names. Crazy.
The fuck he think he is answering questions that's about his life

Damn, who knew this podcast would sound like it was made a month ago.

Neal Brennan: So I...

He’s exactly right when he says people can’t handle the way comedians talk.
and that is why all these comedy podcasts are so big, we can't handle them talking!
@@krusher74 🤣 was just about to say that _some_ people maybe can't handle them, but they aren't watching comedians anyway
Neal is a fucking legend- the unsung hero of my favorite Comedy Central program ever in Chappelle Show
0:57 i can hear Chapelle definitely saying that when telling the story lmao "what the fuck you doing on this bus cracka" I can see it as a sketch already
Goldeneye did not come out at the same time as Titanic. He's thinking of Tomorrow Never Dies.
Yeah he's confusing 1995 and 1997

A million pts for Tommy’s cosby impression! 😂
it's such a funny sketch I'm going to rewatch it after this.
Everyone breaking down & doing a Cosby voice at the end was hilarious
Neal has been a part of some great things and he's got hella great stories.
Stop interrupting him. I want to hear at least one complete story.
I know! They're asking decent questions, so let the guy talk!

Good interview, but yeah, I’ve gotta agree with some previous comments. Stop interrupting the guest when they’re telling a story. Especially iconic stories!
I just think they were just really excited to talk about Eddie Murphy.
It would be great if they let him finish a thought
Agree, terrible interviewers.
True. That's the problem with most comedians having guests since their whole being is always trying to be the center of attention. Kudos to the few ones who are funny but also know when to let others talk.
Wow the 3 comedy experts glad I found you guys
I just think they were just really excited to talk about Eddie Murphy.
@@matthewadams8294 They're really not interviewers they are comedians with a podcast and these are guests who about 95% they are already friends with.... not meant to be an interrogation it's literally a conversation for entertainment
Neal Brennan is the Paul Mooney to Dave Chappelle's Richard Pryor.
I don’t get people who think Neal is like “the mastermind” behind the Chappelle show. Have you seen his standup? No where near as good as Dave’s.
Mooney and Richard wrote as a team, like Neal and Dave. We're talking a number of brilliant people, not one brain and one frontman.
you literally know Jack shit and dont even listen well. He just talked about how dumbasses like yourself either assume, he wrote all daves stuff or dave is his boss. Literally at the beginning of the interview moron!
@@abaeza123 So, figuratively?

lol, I couldn't stop laughing at Neal Brennan's characterization of people who pretend they haven't met you. A dude I was in the same tiny classroom with for at least four years, where we all knew each others' names, tried to pull that on me just two years after he moved to a different school.
I can't seem to get enough of that Dutch guy. 🤣
At the end when Neil said something about people not being able to handle how comedians talk resonates so much with me & the way my friends & I talk.

Eddie Murphy did the best Cosby impression, in my opinion.
Did you not just see Segura's?

Godfrey does some of the best impersonations
Not trying to be a smartass but I am a grammar snob. An impression is when you mimic an animal or inanimate object. When you mimic a person it is called impersonation or a "Carlos Mencia" if you are stealing jokes .

over the years kevin has slowly but surely became my fav brennan. shoutouts burning bridges.
Half Baked came out in 1998, Titanic in 1997 and GoldenEye in 1995. They couldn't have been competing against his movie. 😂

5:45 "Opened against Titanic, Goldeneye, Good Will Hunting, and maybe Big Lebowski"
He makes it sound like 'Half Baked' was released the same weekend all those other movies were released.
'Half Baked' was released MLK weekend 1998. 'Titanic' was #1, but it was in it's 5th week. 'Good Will Hunting' was #2, but it was in it's 7th week. #3 was 'Fallen' - (Denzel Washington movie) which was in it's opening weekend. #4 was 'As Good As It Gets' which was in it's 4th week. #5 was 'Hard Rain' (shitty Christian Slater movie) which was it's first weekend. #6 was 'Half Baked'.
'Goldeneye' wasn't in theaters...it was released in '95. I guess he's thinking 'Tomorrow Never Dies' which was in it's 5th week at the time (#8 that weekend).
'The Big Lebowski' wasn't in theaters either. It came out 2 months later.
So yeah, 'Half Baked' is a funny-ass movie, but it wasn't built for box office success. It was released over MLK weekend which isn't a big money release slot (see the other movies above that also opened that weekend...'Fallen' and 'Hard Rain' weren't big money makers). Movies released during that weekend (and other historically slow weekends) are typically not expected to do much. A lot of that comes from who made the movie. With 'Half Baked' you've got a stoner movie written by Neal Brennan (at the time he'd only written for some garbage TV shows) and Dave Chappelle (who had written for Def Jam and not a lot else). It's starring Chappelle, who was best known for 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' and 'The Nutty Professor'...which were both memorable roles, but not anything close to leading roles. The biggest co-star was probably Jim Breuer who really hadn't been in anything yet. It's director (which is probably the most important part in getting a studio behind a movie) was Tamra Davis who had directed 'Billy Madison' which I certainly liked, but I doubt many executives were running around talking about how shampoo is better or how it's too damn hot for a penguin to just be walking around.
The best case for 'Half Baked' was to keep the budget low (which they did) and hope that enough people hear about it being funny that you can turn a small profit. It did OK, but it didn't make a lot of cash. All it really could have been for anyone associated was a stepping stone.
James Joseph I can’t imagine how much research went into your comment. Congratulations.
That is a level of Douchbaggery that you should have on your Tombstone.
Hard rain wasnt bad it wasnt good but it wasnt bad
nice mention of Dirty Dave Edwards. "You in here for some marijuana?!? BOO THIS MAN!"
I swear every fucking interview I’ve seen of Neal Brennan is just him talking about famous people he knows
I'm sooo excited for coming to America! They better not mess this up.
When you are not watching this but listening the interviewer sounds like Joe Rogan speaking.
Chappelle Show is without a doubt the GREATEST sketch comedy show ever made. I honestly can’t even think of a close (or even a distant) second. Kroll Show is SUPER underrated and Key and Peele is great (but wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for Dave Chappelle.) but IMO you could take all of their best sketches combine them with all of the greatest SNL and Mad TV sketches and compile them into one Mega all star season and it still wouldn’t stand up to either season of Chappelle Show. Lol not even joking.
Most SNL sketches are lame, at least now a days, I never saw it until the 2010s, but whenever I have seen it, it was weak, doesn't come close to Key and Peele in my mind
Best American sketch show easily. There's a few British sketch shows that could go toe to toe with it though.
He is 1 of my 2 celebrity crushes lol
Not seen the vid yet, but liked because... Neal Brennan!
When I was about 16 me and my buddies were smoking pot watching Chappelle's show. One of my friends name was Michael who just so happen to be Puerto Rican, anyways he always would get high and try and get someone to get him something out of the fridge ALWAYS. So we're sitting there and out of no where a P.S.A goes across the screen and it says
"Puerto Ricans Sure are Lazy Michael"
and then cuts back to the show. We flipped the hell out I looked at everybody and made sure they saw what I saw lol Btw this was on a DVD I had just bought.
Please guys, if anyone knows what episode this is let me know lol
All of my buddies still remember it to this day. So I know I wasn't just seeing shit like Tom saw dice clay when he kept riding past the hospital and had to stop. 😂😂😂
Ive seen a lot of Pryor stand up and he never made me laugh like Chappelle does.
A lot of Pryor's stuff doesn't age well. It worked well at the time because it was groundbreaking and very of the time. Chappelle's humor tends to be more like viewing things in context of what we can learn from it and is usually more introspective. I feel like that makes it easier for even future generations to listen to and take from it. Pryor didn't really evolve as much as he just built on what he was doing from the start. Chappelle seems to have matured and evolved into a whole different beast.
His life’s amazing
So Neal and Dave were 19 during the LA riots. It’s crazy how that were working and hustling is young.
