I have watched this over and over. You -- Jenny Doan -- are the reason I am where I am today. I have a successful Etsy shop - of which 75% of the fabrics used for my items come from M*. I had a big, gaping whole in my soul at the time I first saw your first vid, and when I heard the sound of my machine (you were using in that vid), combined with your gentle voice, I allowed you to walk right into my life, and you've been there ever since. I hope someday we can meet in person. Nancy.

I've been sewing a long time but never felt the need to quilt until I saw the Missouri Star tutorials, pretty much by chance. It always seemed like hard work but in the last week I have made a quilt top, a Dresden plate cushion cover (and I am making another as a rug) and one of these very cute totes. I can't believe how easy things go together. It took me a little while to get used to not backstitching every seam and tying off ends but how liberating is that! Your efforts are very much appreciated - I'm sure if I paid for a course to learn all this in the UK it would cost a small fortune. Thank you so much

Jenny...thank you so much for valadating the way i sew!!! You make me smile everytime you say... just eyeball it!!! And i LOVE your high speed machine... Oh,, and thanks for showing how much easier it it to just "scootch over"without breaking thread when quilting the body of the bag.. I feel so much better now.. i'm not alone!!!! Love you Jenny!!! This is such a great idea Jenny. Instead of using charm packs, since I always have leftover fabric from making a baby quilt, I cut into squares and make a matching bag to use as the gift bag. Thanks for the pattern.

Awesome technique!! I had a "sewing school" at my house this week for my granddaughter and two nieces. They learned all about sewing machines and each made an adorable tote bag using this video as our instruction. Jenny, the girls, ages 9 & 11, were amazed at how wonderful their bags are as we'll as how fast you sew! We all agreed that you are brilliant!

I watched the tutorial yesterday and just finished my second tote. I've had the house to myself this weekend so there were no interruptions. The first I made with charms, the second I got brave and strip pieced funky black and white jelly roll and I made it much larger. It got a little wonky as I pieced but in the end it is so busy that it isn't noticeable as those parts ended up in the seam.I I love your tutorials, you explain everything so well. Next will be one for the granddaughter!

I loved making these bags! Just finished the 3rd one today. I'm in the middle of making the jelly roll bag right now. I'm using it to practice FMQ for the first time. Loved this so I made some. As for the leftover 6 charms I just used 2 per tote to make pockets on the lining. I sewed one onto each side. For me I needed one for my cell phone and the other for my glasses. I also added buttons for extra security to where the straps meet the bag. For the pockets I ironed in the raw edges and topped stitched all around and then I used a zigzag to attach. Worked out well and like Jenny always says "I don't like to waste" :D What a great easy project. Thanks Jenny as always!

I've probably made six or seven of these. I choose my charm packs based on how much I love them and what large denim pants with a complementary color that I can find at a thrift store. I use the denim for the bottom, lining & straps. Makes it way sturdier & I always put in an inner pocket. I make these for gifts. I made one for my sis to hold her laptop with double padding & a cute charm pack that would go with anything. I added charm squares just like Jenny said to make it big enough.😊

I put all her goodies, to include a small sewing kit and some brightly-colored, printed fat quarters, then I put everything into her box to go overseas. I'm so excited that I was able to make this purse so that she could keep all her things together. You made it so simple even I could do it. Hi Jenny :) I just completed my first to this tutorial! I used a very colorful 2 1/2" charm pack I had on hand to give it more color pop and sewed them up to meet dimensions. I added an inside pocket as well with a velcro closure and made just one wide strap that's shorter so it;s just over my shoulder and higher up on my hip.. Well, I LOVE how it turned out!! , so colorful and eye catching! :) I will be making more as gifts for sure with some other twists and turns just to see how different they can look. Thank you so much for the dedication of time you give to your tutorials with so much helpful information. You are the BEST!! :)

Jenny I just finished one of the totes but made it a bit smaller with 8 charms as it is for my granddaughter and also made her one of the charm pack skirts to match for her birthday. She will be so excited I hope!!! You are a wonderful teacher and I love your videos. I would love to see some for placemats. I have 2 more granddaughters that have birthdays in April and May and all the girls are sisters so they will all be matching by the time I am done. Thanks so Much for all your time for us.

Jenny - absolutely loved this! Watched it on Friday evening and by Sunday tea time had my first (of many!) tote bags. Would have been quicker but real life kept intervening! Would have used batting in the handle but it put up too much of a fight when I was trying to cut it! Oh, and just a tip for anyone reading this - always make sure that your turning hole is big enough - it's a real tussle to turn it through if it's not!!! Thank you for yet another wonderful project! Sarah

I cannot wait to make these: We have rented a house on Lake Michigan for a week in August, and all the kids and grandkids will be there. I'm going to make all the girls and little ones a tote bag to put their beach goodies into. Since the bags are washable, what better to use for magazines, snacks, sand shovels and of course all the found shells. You are amazing!

I finally had time to make one of these totes! I made a tote for my Mother-inlaw one for Christmas. She likes to carry a small thermos of coffe and a small coffee cup with her every where she goes, so I did mine 3 wide by 3 high. It worked PERFECT!!! Thank you Jennie for being such a great teacher!!!
