THE LIST
The Driver (1978)
Director: Walter Hill
The chase that inspired the 2011 remake is still a classic in our book.
E.T. (1982)
Director: Steven Spielberg
We all remember the magic of the bicycle silhouetted against the sky, but it was the climax of a pretty great chase scene
The General (1926)
Directors: Clyde Bruckman, Buster Keaton
The second train chase in this 1926 silent film was featured the most expensive stunt of its time, and is well worth revisiting the genre just for the quality of the chases.
The World is Not Enough (1999)
Director: Michael Apted
The boat chase in this Brosnan-era Bond film features some absolutely insane stunts along the way, and some absolutely mind-boggling engineering behind-the-scenes.
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Director: Irvin Kershner
The odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field are approximately 3,720 to 1. But Han Solo does it, while being chased by the Empire.
Akira (1988)
Director: Katsuhiro Otomo
It’s a little unusual to pick an animated sequence in a list dominated by impressive practical stunts, but the sheer beauty of the motorcycle chases in Akira aren’t to be missed.
Ong Bak (2003)
Director: Prachya Pinkaew
This Tony Jaa martial arts movie makes full use of its star’s physical capabilities in the chase scene through the allys of Bangkok.
The French Connection (1971)
Director: William Friedkin
Gene Hackman’s pursuit of a subway in a car is one of the most raw, and epic chases we’ve ever seen on film.
Bullitt (1968)
Director: Peter Yates
This quintessential chase from the iconic Steve McQueen stands the test of time, and is our pick for best chase scene of all time. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I figured the Blues Brothers would at least get an honorable mention
Yes, isn't there a total hilarious absurdity category?!!
I was waiting for it to be number 1!
I'd have a tough time deciding between "BB" and "What's Up Doc?" .
Well it was made as a spoof on car chases in movies so I don't think it'd really qualify.
I agree. This is bullshit!
Shocked to not see Wallace and Gromit train scene mentioned. One of the best ever
Yes.
You said it for me
As mentioned, Blues Brothers and Ronin immediately came to mind, but 1973's "The Seven-Ups"
also had a great one.
I'm glad many people have pointed out the lack of Ronin. Its a fantastic film that never strays from believability, and its chase scenes are incredible.
It's a Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World should be on this list. The whole movie is one exciting chase with more and more people joining in.
I just thought the same.
The Blues Brothers... Death Proof.
+caffeineadvocate no blues brothers, so sad
The taxis chasing Spencer Tracy towards the end of It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World was pretty cool.
Steven Spielberg's "Duel" should have made the list. It's one big chase scene!
What about the Blues Brothers? "This is car 55. We're in a truck."
Can't believe you forgot the chase scene from "Ronin"
+Nicholas Holloway That was a great scene, top five on my list.
+Nicholas Holloway I came here to post exactly that.
+Nicholas Holloway Agreed. Driving into head on traffic for several minutes. It was a crazy scene.
As they went through the list, I was more and more sure, that they are leaving Ronin for the first place..
There was also the French movie that possibly partly inspired Ronin's Paris chase scene: Le Professionel. In that film, lead actor Belmondo was his own stunt driver, making for some very realistic shots.
Baby driver would definitely have a spot in this list if done now
The chase in "What's Up Doc" is classic.
Ronin should have been at least mentioned
I watched this with the anticipation of Ronin. Truly a good car chase scene, even when they ambushed them at the light.
Fuck that
Ronin has the best, most technical and realistic chase scene of all time. It's the Heist of car chases.
The get away after the gun buy under the bridge, the case heist or the BMW chase through the tunnels etc. Anyone of those was equal to any of those on this list, and whats with the animated pick?
Yeah, but The Transporter's opening scene is better. Yes, it's choreographed (which it even makes fun of later in the movie), but it's an awesome scene.
I believe it was in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest car chase in a film.
Yes! Believable!
This
The Road Warrior should have definitely been included. One of the best choreographed chase scenes ever.
Less famous but still deserving of a mention is The Seven-Ups staring Roy Scheider from 1973.
The problem with that one is that they basically tried to up everything from The French Connection, and made a far inferior movie. Yeah, the car chase was grander, but lacked all the improvised rawness from Connection. That chase is the best of all time imo.
@@lthammox the seven ups chase is still top 10 tho
Ronin had an intense chase scene.
Ronin had 3 intense chase scenes ;) should have at least had an honorable mention on the list.
bradlbe First thing I thought when the video was over. Where's Ronin?
bradlbe Yes, I'm very disappointed that it wasn't given a mention. It's not like CineFix to miss something THAT obvious.
bradlbe Yeah really! Beautiful cars, exotic locations, impeccable sound design, and excellent stuntdrivers. How could it not even be number 10?? A rare mistake indeed.
i came down to the comments section to say that very thing. my favorite.
Vanishing Point (1971) Ronin (1999)
To me, the most incredible and hilarious foot chases are Buster Keaton's Seven Chances (1925) and Cops (1922)
There are so many great chase scenes. I think it’s impossible to choose only ten. Baby Driver, Matrix Reloaded, Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, The Winter Soldier and the list goes on and on ...
I feel a little disappointed that the Blues Brothers doesn't even get a mention.
your right
+Elwyn Chow The Blues Brothers always gets ignored for top chases :(
This lacks Ronin. Try again.
Yes. Also The Rock.
He forgot casino royal
@@peterknutsen3070 While I enjoy that chase scene, it lacks much realism due to its cinematography -- locks of shaky screen and implied high speed spoil it for me
The Blues Brothers final clase was and is one of my favourites. Classic 80s.
What's Up Doc has the classic chase through San Fran and street vendors
I'd forgot all about that. Made my sides hurt the 1st time I saw it. Street vendors, plate glass window installers, newly weds who lost their VW, concrete worker, etc etc.
the blues brothers, death proof and the opening case from the last crusade
the blues brothers final chase scene (including the build up throughout the plot) is also ridiculously hilarious!
thats the one i was referring to
I say Death Proof too. By far
WillJohnstone Death Proof, on top of the stunt legends, had Zoe Bell (Actress AND Stuntwoman)
Duel (1971) The whole movie is a chase.
THANK YOU! I thought for sure it would be number 1, or mentioned, no less!
Duel is an amazing movie
eldo59 It was made for TV, though, so probably why it wasn't included.
Isn't Duel one of Spielberg's first films?
Duel is more than a chase .... at first it was tease then a race then chase then a fight between a man and his bully (the truck)
i like how varied your lists are, but honestly, the bike chase just takes a spot that could be filled by so many better chases that were left out
The "seven ups" with Roy Shider's crash at end was great too.
you forgot the Blues brothers chase to Chicago....hell yeah!
+Darryl Dorris I got here to post that. Agree 100%
+Darryl Dorris Leaving the Blues Brothers out of this list is like making a list of the Top New York City landmarks and not mentioning the Statue of Liberty.
i was gonna say the same!
I'm actually somewhat disappointed it wasn't in there. Oh well. CineFix still rocks.
i know right?
RONIN!!!!!!!
Hello yes perfect number 2 for this list
Yea, where's Ronin? Not even a mention?
+Aldrich Uyliong and honestly you could add the entire BMW Driver mini folms they made in the early 2000's. i worked for BMW of North America back then and they gave every employee a copy of that dvd...dunno if everyone remembers those films but Clive Owen was "The Driver" and it was basically the inspiration for the Transporter series. The one that Guy Richie directed was particularly dope
This movie was one entire chase sequence!
Ronin is one of my favourites too. I think Taxi (1998) has one of the best chase scenes and the first Mad Max is good too. I think my all time favourite however has to be Vanishing Point (1971)
As has been pointed out, Ronin is missing from this list from the genius of John Frankenheimer who also made Grand Prix which although it is about motor sport and not chase scenes the racing scenes are some of the best car scenes ever shot. He used a lot of the same camera work on Ronin making it a legendary high speed car chase movie worthy of top 10.
Benny outrunning the Beast in the Sandlot
The original "Gone In 60 Seconds" chase scene is amazing!
I think Blues Brothers merit an honorable mention for wonton destruction at least.
i was just about to comment about that, i was disappointed that the Blues Brothers wasn't on the list.
***** I'm pretty sure the concept of an honorable mention predates WatchMojo.com but I've been wrong before
I was just about say this ---but more than an honourable mention...
*****
They had several honorable mentions or near misses through the entire list. a nod needed to be given to Jake and Elwood.
Absolutely. Can't believe that seen from Blues Brothers was not mentioned. "Disco dancing hair cuts."
My favorite chase: The French Connection.
The one on foot.
6 years later and I still can't believe The Road Warrior didn't even get a mention.
I think a mention of The Blues brothers would have been nice just because of how over the top it is.
exactly what i thought. i loved the movie and i loved the chase.
The Blues Brothers not even getting a passing mention is a crime
Like nearly everyone else says: Ronin. The Chase through Paris in a Mini in Bourne. Mad Max ( the original ), and, for fuck's sake, DUEL. Vanishing Point.
Try again.
The finale of Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof is INCREDIBLE! Not even a passing mention.
Now you can add nearly the whole Mad Max Fury Rod movie to the list
+eisenhauerful I know, right? (We'd guess there are technically, like, 5-8 separate chase scenes in that movie. But still!)
Oh one thing drive With Ryan Gosilng is based on a book not a remake look IT up
+Max Nyström Winding-Refn very likely used that chase to pay homage to The Driver. It's the exact same thing Tarantino does almost all the time.
No the serid remake on video
No saw is a remake no
I'm glad 'To Live and Die in L.A.' was included. That chase scene was pretty god damn intense.
The whole movie wears well.
For my money, the best boat chase scene of all time goes to Live and Let Die
Ah, Steve McQueen in Bullitt. The only man in cinematic history who ever made a cardigan look good.
Why is the blue's brothers not in this at all?
+DJ Revolver I agree....where is the blue brothers dude?
The Raid 2's car chase scene is incredible. Probably the most violent out of all of these.
Appreicated the variety, so thank you.
Ronin's chase scenes, especially the last one is the best of all time. No cgi. They did it on the streets of Paris with absolutely NO cgi. Best chase scene ever. (I've never understood why more people didn't see this film. Wake up and watch it! The thinking man's thriller.)
Not a single mention of Mad Max?
but after The Road Warrior
+MrCrockaG What are you, 12? Mad! Freaking! Max!! Some of the best chase scenes ever to grace celluloid!
+MrCrockaG beyond the Thunderdome
Fury Road!
Mad Max I, II and IV are pretty much just chase scenes and nothing else. Absolutely excellent.
Steven Spielberg's Duel (1971)
Your #2 and #1 picks are perfect!!!!
One of the things that makes the "Bullitt" chase scene so excellent is the amazing soundtrack. If you watch the scene and take note of the sound, you can actually hear the sigh of the shock absorbers as the cars land and rebound from being airborne.
Not even mentioning the Blues Brothers? Arrrgh!
The Huggies scene from Raising Arizona deserves at least a mention. To say nothing of Blues Brothers.
Gone in 60 Seconds - the real one, not the CG joke with that hacked up Mustang. Best chase scene ever.
Awesome! Liked them all and yes for me perfect rankings.
The opening chase from mad Max
Or the tanker chase from mad Max 2
babrackets scopz the whole mad max: fury road! :D
Yes mad max
+babrackets scopz The tanker scene is one of my all time favorites.
Nice that you got Akira onto the list.......but you forgot Ronin guys!
Ronin should be top five. Great list thoigh!
My Hotwheels track one sunday morning in 1972...Epic.
Dude, the Blues Brothers. The one that still holds the record for most cars destroyed?
Drew Vandeventer the record is now held by Transformers 3, with 532 cars destroyed.
Ya !!!
*Death Proof ..
*Ronin(1998)....
*The seven-ups(1973)
*The Blues Brothers(1980)
*Vanishing Point (1971)
*Dirty Mary Crazy Larry(1974)
*Smokey & The Bandit (1977)
*Bad Boys 1 & 2
* What's Up, Doc ? (1972) ..the chase through San Francisco (( and yes .. I know it's a comedy.. But it's a great & hilarious chase scene )
How do you at least not mention Vanishing Point? Excellent list.
I was coming here to see if What's Up Doc was gonna be mentioned.
I was thinking there should be a comedic car chase category
I always get extra hype for these when they decide to include animation :D
I am sorry you made this video pre-BABY DRIVER. Those car chase scenes were insanely fun. My dad hates car chases, and enjoyed the heck out of those.
I'm surprised Ronin wasn't at least mentioned in this list.
I agree Ronin has an awesome chase scene.
How about Mad Max: Fury Road?! :P
Jonathon Kirkbride not seen that yet myself, but I have heard good things about the film generally.
a few glaring omissions - though you have to tip the hat to French Connection and Bullit - include Ronin, Blues Brothers, Bourne Supremacy (the taxi chase is better than the New York chase in Ultimatum, though the Tangier roof chase arguably beats them both) and there ought to have been a shout out to Ferris Bueller for the final 'March of the Swivelheads'-soundtracked race to get home between Ferris on foot and sister Jeanie in the car.
+Iain Meldrum (mixolosopher) Yes yesyesyesyes and yes
Definitely should have at least been mentioned but still a fantastic list
The chase was actually done without permits, with off duty NYPD officers as drivers and trying to control traffic. The crash with the white Ford is the only collision with a civilian. The woman with the baby carriage is totally scripted.
The Seven Ups, always gets overlooked, excellent chase .
You forgot about the Pee-Wees big adventure bike chase LOL
you missed the car chase from Ronin
My favorite chase scene is from Ronin. I think the car chase in that movie is the best on film.
Mah nigga.
Thanks I really enjoyed the facts about the filming of the French Connection case scene :)
In my opinion...
One Of the BEST car chase scenes...
czcams.com/video/07pUxiaxkP4/video.html
The epic chase scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" at least deserved an honorable mention.
The chase scene from "The Seven Ups" starring Roy Schneider is EPIC !
Best Comedy Chase Scene: "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World"
Great list
what about death proof with Zoe Bell hanging onto the hud of the white challenger sooo awesome
Dirty Mary / Crazy Larry with Peter Fonda and Susan George.
The final act chase scene from What’s Up Doc at least deserves a mention for how bonkers it is!
Great picks
You left out some really great ones The car chase scenes in "Ronin".The final chase scene in "The Road Warior" or "Mad Max II" as it's known in the rest of the world. And for comedy you cant beat the scenes in "The Blues Brothers" and "What's Up Doc".
What list should we do next?
Top 10 moments in Slapstick comedy!!! :-D
Top Ten stunts of all time
top 10 movie opening scenes
Blueissonice Top 10 movie quotes.
Top ten iconic lead character looks i.e Indiana Jones and his hat and whip
At least I'm not alone, Blues Brothers man. I kept waiting for it...you left me hanging.
Really good movie channel, one of top. Thnx for good work...
The truck chase scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Yeah, OK here's some you missed:
1. Ronin
2. The Hidden
3. Vanishing Point.1971
4. Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
"The Seven-Ups" 1973, Starring Roy Scheider.
One of the best imo, enjoyed the realism without the need for over the top cgi
Nice to see Buster Keaton on this list. There’s a lot of silent films involving some hair-raising chase sequences (Keaton outrunning boulders is one) that deserved honourable mentions, particularly the Keystone Cops shorts that invariably found them hanging over cliffs or narrowly avoiding speeding trains.
Hong Kong action films have featured some impressive car and bike sequences as well. “Overheard 2”, “The Viral Factor” and “Firestorm” are three that spring to mind. The too-recent-for-this-list film, “The White Storm 2: Drug Lords” has a chase sequence that begins on the streets then heads to an underground rail station. How? Just take the escalators down, of course!
Blues brother's better be in this list.
Oh man! I can't believe Miyazaki's Lupin 3rd didn't make the list.
I was just about to say that and apparently Spielberg himself said it was the greatest ever made
Magnus Danger Magnus which episode
The Ghibli movie, Castle of Cagliostro.
+Magnus Danger Magnus wow ! he made lupin the 3rd too ? guy is a legend.
Ronin should have been mentioned along with the French connection
You earned the like with Bullit bro hahahahhahahah CLASSIC Mustang vs Hemi!!!
I don't now if it has been mention but, what about the awesome car chase from the movie Ronin.
The horse and truck chase from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In Raising Arizona Nicholas Cage flees on foot from the shotgun toting supermarket worker, dobermans, cops and a pencil necked kid with braces and a hand cannon. His escapes by running, jumping, dodging, carjacking and finally being rescued by his pissed off wife in the family car. I love that on.
Great list
Thank you for putting it together.
I went and watched akira and what a great scene that was to open the movie.
Great job.
Great movie's.
Can't have a car chase list without Ronin... It's easily top 5!
"the world is not enough" had some of the best bond stunts and chases , which made pierce brosnan a great bond , regardless of the stories or directing flaws.
also AKIRA and Terminator 2 judgement day will always be in my heart as some of the greatest chases with bikes ever . JUST by reading the manga i felt an adrenaline rush.
I am so glad you picked, "Bullit" as number 1. I didn't see how any other movie could have been chosen, but that's a generational thing.
Raising Arizona. The chase sequence when H.I. is trying to get diapers. The camera work and editing is a mini-masterclass in action filmmaking.
