It's like using a *differential steering* like tank. (Differential steering is the means of steering a land vehicle by applying more drive torque to one side of the vehicle than the other.) Roll more on one side while letting loose on the other will make the roti turn and enlarge at the same time... Excellent skill, no need to pick and turn after each roll!
This helped me understand a lot more. I don't understand how differentials work, but I do understand torque differences and it's just a matter of switching torque between both sides while alternating directions to do so. I appreciate the video and your comment. Thank you.
Hey this is helpful. I have a doubt. While rolling up and down the rotational force that is applied is in opposite direction everytime the pin's direction changes from up to.down which make the roti stay where it is right. How does it rotate then. Unless the pin is lifted while rolling down I don't see it moving in one direction.
@@jothis6877Hi, as you can see in her video, she puts more pressure on the right hand while rolling up. Then rolls down with minimum pressure on the right and a slight on the left, hence rotating the roti on the go. Also, notice that her left end of the pin somewhat stays inside the roti, means she presses on the right side only and rolls the pin back with minimum effort. For this way to work, you need a bit of practice and the piece of dough should be decently bathed in dry flour. If you don't want dry roti, then try making it with bare hands instead of the rolling pin. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@jothis6877 Or you can make it with rolling pin only, but without rotational motion. Simply put the round piece of dough, roll it up and down 2-3 times with equal pressure on both hands. Lift the roti and flip it. This time put it back with a 90° rotation, means the rolled area will now be horizontal to you and now roll the shorter side up and down same as before. Flip, rotate and roll few more times while manually making it round. You are done. 😉
@@mohammadmutaib2515 it is clear now. I understood the science but as you said it comes with practice. The explanation she gave does not give this level of detail. All she said was about the pressure but did not talk about varying it while rolling up and down which is very crucial for the rotation. Thanks a lot. BTW I know to roll round roti by manually flipping it.

Roti making is an art and a basic life skill. Irrespective of gender, it’s a must. If all men could make their own roti, Indian men would have struggled less with belly. 😂
How much dry atta to apply while rolling the roti….when I apply less then the roti becomes hard and irregular and when I apply more then the roti becomes dry….plz help….I am struggling
