I bought an old canvas army tent from army surplus. Threw away the poles and use it for a car cover. They breath, and last for years. I use a smaller two man tent for my riding mower.
Mustie1 got tired of cheap tarps shredding and finally purchased some used billboard material that held up remarkably well! It's made to be in the UV and it's durable. He's in the NE as well. You can easily grommet the material for tiedowns.
