Erica Synths PICO DRUM2 // Tiny Eurorack drum synthesiser a BIG sound

- *TIMING INDEX BELOW* Here we have the new PICO DRUM2 module from Erica Synths. Unlike the PICO DRUMS (which is sample based) the DRUM2 is a full on drum synthesiser. It has 8 algorithms that cross traditional drum & percussion sounds, melodic basslines and some really filfthy hits for drum sounds or riffs. It tracks 1v/oct, has assignable CV to algorithm parameters, decay or algorithm select meaning it’s easy with some careful sequencing to turn a single module into a whole beat and drum kit. With such a wide range to the module there’s lots of patches so feel free of course to skip around with the timing index and sections below. I’ve added lots of beats with no talking, each algorithm is explored, CV configuration is demonstrated and there’s also tuning the DRUM2 into a full drum kit vibe with some careful sequencing.
NOTE - “beat break” patches are no talking patches with the intention of showing the wide range of sounds these can produce across a range of different styles. There’s additional sounds and processing on some of them but they all label what the two DRUM2 modules are doing on screen.
**WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR BEAT BREAKS IN LONGER FORM? Leave a comment, as I can upload an uninterrupted uncut version of all the beats from this video with no talking.

Very cool modules with the big Erica Synths sound. I bought 4 of them :-) Good video showing the different modes thanks !
Nice video Ben, I like the settings description graphics at the bottom of the screen.. slick! Some great patches and sounds coming out of the Drum2.
these are unbelievable! great demonstration!
super dope module that pairs wonderfully with the Pico Drums, thanks a lot, as usual, I watched this and fired !
I spotted you showing off your own module in the vid too. Nice. Need to get myself one of those soon.
Great presentation as always. Good job. I might consider buy two of these. It looks more interesting than the first sample based one.
Just got this one. Awesome module, super versatile and great value for money.
nice, glad you're enjoying it. I like it and the original PICO DRUM.
A wonderfully versatile module in such a compact size. You can always depend on Erica Synths!
Great demo. Thanks! I have the original Pico Drums and find it very flexible. From the sound of it, Drums 2 would make a fine addition.
Same. I was thinking about getting 2 additional pico drums but now i think 1 more pico drums and a pico drum2 might be a better plan
Love those nasty kicks from the complex pulse drum.
Sounds really nice. I think I am going to try and buy it man.
That really clever way of sequencing this so that it’s scrolling into the next ‘snippet’ reminds me of sequencing the 4MS SMR with it’s rotate encoder, clockwise and counter clockwise. I saw a video where somebody was trying to use MIDI messages to configure the parameters of a Roland EFX Demora module, the idea being to literally change the functionality of the module itself on the fly, without any need to hook it up to the editing applet! Imagine in one beat having a drum voice and then an eighth note later you have a ring modulating VCA. Now, I’m thinking about taking my Pico Drums and wiring two jacks so that I can try and send gates and triggers to advance and select with the encoder over the jacks. I’ll look for the Datasheet and take meter readings first to see if a buffer is in order, as I’m certain is. So next might be the same for the DisTing, and any other modules that have rotary encoders that I would like to sequence. It’s all very inspiring, MIDI messages being sent very quickly, or CV to get the sound just the way you’d like it to be for that next step of the sequence, it almost seems a little bit magical. It’s just happening so quick that it becomes a sort of baffling mystery! Thanks for sharing!!
Great sounding module, but whoever mapped CV2 to param 1 and CV1 to param 2 needs to go back to industrial design school!
Nice video! I really like the format with the "no talking beat breaks" in between.
It wouldn’t have been an option when this video was made, but running the TiNRS Next Tuesday into this would be a lot of fun…
Yeah that would be a good combo. I never really got to try the PICO VOICE which would be great with that too.
Great example grooves!
nice one ben
Nice vid! :)
Well made demo...
Oooh, gnarly!
Groovy Baby! 🤪🧐😉
Nice!
killer!

Cool 👍
nice
Fine, I'll buy one lol
That bass sound at 10:30mins is great. Is the patch for it on your Patreon?
There's no additional Patreon content for this one.
It's a typical sequence (Gate and pitch from the same sequencer - likely the Eloquencer) going to trigger the drum module and the CV going into the CV to control it's pitch.
Listening back and trying to remember, I think that's all that was happening with that one. Hope that helps.
For an alternative try patching a triangle wave into a VCA and use a decay envelope to control VCA level and pitch to control oscillator (the triangles) pitch. For that thicker more saturated type sound you could use a sine wave and pass it through something with a little distortion, or take a square wave and heavily filter the square then go into the VCA.
That's super helpful to put it mildly, and what an awesome bass sound it is, thanks for the help! 👍
happy to help when I can, thanks!
It's really quite disgusting just how frakking great you are at this shit. Excellent upload!

I went and bought 3 of these. Questions: Is it digital samples? Can the bsp control it? And is there a connector in the back that has audio out?
As per the video info, they're digital synthesis, not samples. Yes, you can drive them with the BSP (pay attention to trigger/CV levels). No, there is not audio out on the back. The socket at the bottom with the big white highlight labelled "out" is the output, at Euro level, so about 19dBu. The CV and trigger specs, which are in line with Euro norms (5v 1ms trigger, +/- 5v CV), are explained in the manual- www.ericasynths.lv/media/Pico_DRUMS2_manual.pdf - HTH.
It’s like a mini BIA! I gotta check this out.
Was about to say the same thing, two of them for sure would be well powerful
5:19 gives me big old venetian snares/doormouse vibes. tasty as hell.
Venetian snares 😂
Great mini drum / synth with two flaws: it doesn't save the configuration of CV1 between power cycles, and you can't use CV1 to change algorithm if Decay is up full. These aren't mentioned in the video.
That's annoying! Losing info on power down is a massive pain in the arse, I wish manufacturers would take this into consideration! Does it remember other settings, which algorhythm you were on for example?
Paralax and vertex models, tell me about those, looks very make noise ish
Just grabbed 3 of these l0l
Sooooo looking forward to TakTakTak’s Drumbo module.
That has gone very quiet, hoping to get one myself.
Looking to get this as my first module, will it make sense with a neutron? Finding it so difficult to make a starting point with modular, so much possibilities.
Gavin Shortall yes this kinda makes sense as a drum voice. Although a modulator for neuron might make more sense. So, something like a Voltage Block might be pretty cool.
Broseph you get it?
Some great sounds, how much it for one of those.
About tree fiddy
It sounds and looks like a simplified version of the drum mode on the Graphic VCO.
👀 drum mode??? just when i thought my modgrid blueprint was set 🤦🏻🎛
There is one screw missing up in the right corner of the sample drum ! Oh I hate this !!
I only ever diagonally corner pin modules, barely ever all 4 screws. So sorry to to make this worse for you but there's two screws missing, not just one.
OMG!! I just bought 2 Pico Drum2 modules incl. 2 screws. Nice tutorial!
On average, how long do these videos take from idea to upload?
3-4 jams
I just got mine to use as my main kick but I think I’m sending it back. Maybe it just doesn’t suit me. It’s crunchy, digital and harsh and the parameterisation is strangely mapped out across the knobs and annoying to adjust. I managed to dial in a suitable kick but only if I put it through a filter to get it sounding how I want. See 12:37 in the vid - it sounds like a very closed hat on top, and it’s constantly there.
Admittedly this does sound good in this video,in the context of the other drums but I’m not finding a nice use for it. Maybe it’s me. Maybe the sample Version would suit me better. Maybe the 2hp kick?
I hear it in that section of the vid. You feel like this was happening for any kick you tried to make? Did you send it back or are you liking it more now?
@@EduardoLopez-re2sp I really tried to make a use for it. I decided that maybe I can use It for other percussion, like noise or hats, but I really dislike this module. I sent it back, hopefully I'll get a refund
Oh, I don't meant to be so negative on your vid comments Ben. Really appreciate all the careful thought and time you put into your content, so thank you!
Glad I read this, was hoping to get this as a useful kick module but perhaps I'll try the 2hp as well!
Damnnnnnnn
These would pair fantastic with my Noise Engineering BIA in a small modular setup without breaking the bank or requiring a 12u massive case.
What is that module next to Mutes?
dont destroy these signals with algorithms, many musicians do it because computers are easy to use, sound of circuits is awesome
Where are the drum sounds?
Where? As is where, they're missing? Or where are they coming from?
The supporting sounds are samples in the PICO DRUM 1 mainly
I don't have a crucial question yet, but I just want to know: Can I get 1 free / lifetime Divkid question answered? It's still less than a Genie. Shit.. Did I just use up my one question?
bruh are you on some kind of meds that are giving you the shakes
