  • Yakima Major Shady - 270 Degree Awning with 80s ft of coverage with legs
    The Yakima Major Shady is the awning we have been waiting for. It is a 270 degree coverage with 80s ft of protection. WITH fold out legs and guy out points to keep this awning working in wind and weather. Plus, it is easy to set up and break down.

    Hope that wall accessory will have either windows or they provide a mesh/mesquito screen rather than a solid wall enclosure.

    Can you tell me the distance on the bolts? Want to mount this to my camper and need to use different brackets

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před rokem

      Hello! The width between the mounts? That is adjustable. Or the distance between the actual bolts on the mount?

    Endearment how much snow weight can the awning hold with legs deployed?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před rokem

      Great question. I have not had too much snow on it. Yet. Heading up to camp in sone storms this next weekend and will report back.
      I would imagine a few inches is not a problem. But we shall see as the snow gets wetter and heavier this spring.

    It looks like you didnt mount the brackets centered on the awning, as the instructions say, but further back, so that the back of the awning doesnt stick out past the rear edge of the vehicle. Did you do that for better protection, so that the inside edge is closer to the tent/back of the car, instead of having a wide gap there? Or is there a different reason? Any issues with it being mounted off-center?

      Great question! I had to keep it that far out so I can access the latches on the roof top tent. I would have loved to have the Major Shady as close as possible to the tent.... but then I can not open the tent. Just how it goes. The awning has been really awesome and saved our butts in some major storms!

    How’s the rear door when you open it? Does it hit the awning?

    Wow great review. I don't know about you guys but you make the 4runner look like its a sedan, you must be like 6' 5" and easy to reach the awning!

      Thanks for the nice note! Making me feel like a big guy LOL. I am 6'1" The awing is pretty easy to get too! Take care

    Is there a kit for the 4Runner Trd pro roof rack?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před rokem +1

      Hello! Let me see if I can help. Are you asking if you can mount it directly to the stock TRD rack? If so I will loom into that.

    • @giocast7644
      @giocast7644 Před rokem

      @@Engearment yes I’m wondering if there’s a kit or if it’s able to mount directly on to it without a kit

  • @armadilllo

    so it dumps all the rain in between the car and awning?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  Před rokem +1

      LOL - it can. Though we have used it in some MAJOR storms and been good to go. Just have to position the camp chairs to avoid getting dumped on. We camped in a hail storm (the size of plums!!) with 6 of us under the Major Shady and stayed protected. Our roof top tent took 60 dents to the top. But we did not get hit. So, I am rather thrilled with the performance.
      I added the extra panel to the Major Shady a few weeks ago and it makes a huge benefit for wind and hail. So happy with this set up. I have some drone footage up on muy personal Facebook (Sean Sewell) and IG (Sean Sewell Mountain Man) Hope that insight helps!
