Facepalm end screen. Lol It's called price skimming. They start with customers who are willing to pay more for the product. Once that demand is met, then they go for a lower price point to capture the rest of the market.
Apple: iPhone 12 for general public, 12 Pro and Pro Max for the top-paying ones, and SE for the more "budget-oriented" users who want an iOS device for $400.
At 6:56, you actually forgot about the 356 X being simplified to the 356 M too, so theres basically 3 simplified flagships, X to M, XS to Air M, and 11 Pro to 11 Duo
I think the Gan 11 m duo was actually a good idea on their part. I know of a lot of people who wanted to try the Gan 11 M Pro, but simply couldn't afford it. Removing some of the customization to lower the price was actually pretty smart, because then it opens up the opportunity for those who couldn't spend $65 on a quality 3x3. Now they can essentially try the Gan 11, minus the customization and at a cheaper price. I think if the performance is just as good, or pretty close, it is a good deal.
And we also get thet good box in 47 doller only I realy wanna tryout 11 m pro but you know eveey one cant aford 11 m pro so 11 m duo is really goood chois for 47 dolers
Been a while since you've made this kind of video. You make some good arguments. The Air M was definitely a marketing blunder last year. It left a lot of people confused, including ourselves for a period of time. How did you predict the convertible smart cube concept? That was supposed to be top secret 😂. It's also worth noting that the simplification goes further down to products like those from Monster GO, so a flagship product would be simplified 3 stages, the "Mid-Ship" cube with a removal of a single feature at a price directly in between mid-range and flagship, a Mid-Range cube with a simplified GES and a Monster GO product with the removal of magnets. In terms of 6 months, I think that's typically a good time range. It's long enough to allow the 11M Pro some breathing room and its short enough for it not to be considered "milking" or uncreative. Most people switch cubes every few months. It's an interesting model, very different to other fields, where the flagship, mid-range and budget are released in very small timeframes to give people the buying decision from the get-go. Then again, they have one flagship a year and it's hard for companies to keep momentum without releasing products in between. Another type of product in addition to the simplified model is the "Old Flagship V2" Model, sort of like how we saw the XV2 last year with technology from the XS. Won't be surprised to see a GAN XS V2 with the piece design of an XS and corner magnets for the same "mid-ship" price. Great video.
I reckon they made the 2 cubes at the same time but for marketing reasons launched the expensive version 1st. So I have 4 versions of the 11M Pro and I haven't touched the magnets in either of them, am a bit gutted they released the Duo now.
Excelente input! Let’s draw all cards for once - the whole point of doing business is to fulfill a dream (in the case of GAN, making superb speed cubes) while at the same time making lots of money so they can have enough to live well and to keep developing their incredible ideas. Yes, customers get confused. But nobody is forced to buy, and if the buy by mistake, they can always have a spare cube to give away or do whatever they want. I can only think that GAN cube naming strategy (?!) is a win win situation. I also wish they could publish a letter explaining the their weird naming strategy... But at the end, it doesn’t really matter.
It's always good for consumers to have different options but would be nice to have both options available at the same time. However form GANs point of view it's a comprehensible (more lucrative) strategy to release the 11 m duo later - and like always some will be happy about this, others won't.
My only frustration with GAN doing something like this is the delay from the "high end" version to the release of the pared-down version. There's nothing wrong with removing a few features and releasing it at a lower cost. However, I think it would be better for the consumer to have that choice at the same time rather than waiting for something that isn't guaranteed.
I totally agree with you. I think Gan is by far the most innovative cube maker. I have three 11 M Pros because I wanted all three of the finishes. I've ordered the 11 M Duo from you because I want to see what Gan thinks is the optimal setup. I do know this-I know the Duo will be a cube in my lineup of cubes I use on a regular basis. To those who don't like Gan for whatever reason, I say get another brand. There are a lot of great cubes out there, and I own many of them myself. The Gan cubes are at the top of my lineup though, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
If Gan would go to that kind of marketing strategy, I can see why they do this. And it's working. They kinda used to do that when they released the Gan Air (2016). But all of it's versions were released at the same time. The main reason why other people hated toned down versions of Gan is that they used to expect to a flagship feature in every release and it's works for consumers who are enthusiasts or can afford it
I wanted a stickered 11 M pro or a shiny UV coated one.. but they didn't have one so I bought the 11 M pro. I already have multiple Gan cubes that all look the same, that soft frosted look. Then after I bought the 11 M pro they came out with stickered (facepalm)... and now I see The Cubicle and SCS both have the UV coated shiny one in stock for $70. I feel bad that I bought the 11 M pro. It's a great cube but I still use my 356 XS most of the time. The 11 M Pro is not some massive game changing paradigm shift over the 356 XS. Maybe I'll get a Stickered or UV coated Gan cube eventually but I'm not paying $70. for it since I just bought the 11 M Pro only a couple months ago. It almost feels like you're punished for buying the early release of the new cube.
Anyone else noticing how gan follows iphone secretly iPhone “ xs” iPhone “x” iPhone “11” gan 11 m (just came out) iphone 11pro, gan 11m pro. iPhone 11 mini (lol dont even think this exists) gan 11 air (also just came out) huh? Huh? Notice it
I think the problem is that it feels a bit scammy by Gan. No one - NO ONE - complained when Gan released three versions of their pyra. They were released at the same time and they were named very clearly. But the 11m Pro & Duo? Not so much. Not releasing them at the same time and giving the second one a confusing name is why people give them static for being "uncreative". The 11m Pro was very creative but taking 1 or things out of it? That's not creative. Also, I suspect at least some of the backlash is the pricing. "Hey, our cheaper cube is only $47!" - more than every other company's flagship.
Facepalm end screen. Lol

This video is so informative. Glad that you touch base on so many aspects about Gan. Can wait to see what they do in the future!

They are trying to make more money, they don’t wanna risk everyone just getting the budget version because it’s just as goodz

I like how GAN just can find any excuse to make a cube like they are bored so like lets create the GAN frsmr or anything
