  • Super yachts are covered in stainless steel, and one of your yacht crew duties will be to ensure that it's always looking clean and shiny. In this video, I demonstrate some of the best practices to follow, and show you exactly which products you can expect to be working with.
    0:00 Introduction
    01:28 DRY Autosol Polish
    05:30 WET Star Clean Metal Polish
    08:34 Collinite 845 Insulator Wax
    13:10 Summary
    This is one of the easiest superyacht deckhand duties, and it's therefore often given to day workers and new crew. Once you've proven that you know how to polish stainless steel on a boat, you'll soon be trusted with some of the more challenging tasks on deck.

      I just saw a documentary/like movie with a Heesen yacht, and they filmed a lot of shiny stainless steel, including the bell. However, filmed from an angle so you could see the bottom rim. which looked like it had not been getting any attention at all.

    • @WorkonaSuperyacht
      @WorkonaSuperyacht  Před 3 lety +2

      @Tingeling The inside of the bell sometimes isn't finished to the same standard as the outside. It would therefore need to be machine polished before these polishing pastes could be used.

    • @WorkonaSuperyacht
      @WorkonaSuperyacht  Před 3 lety

      Hello Женя, and thank you for commenting. Dark paint colours are always difficult to maintain. Here are a few tips that I find useful:
      1. After washing, dry as much as you can. Start with a water blade and chamois, then use a chamois mop on a long pole for areas that you can't reach.
      2. If possible, don't wash or rinse the yacht when the surfaces are hot. If you do need to wash in the heat, only wash small sections at a time, and make sure that you rinse thoroughly.
      3. A lot of the streaks come from mineral deposits in the water. Water straight from the dock can be very hard, so try and use water that has been passed through a filter and/or softener.
      I hope that helps.

    • @WorkonaSuperyacht
      @WorkonaSuperyacht  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question! It’s used for sound signalling in restricted visibility whilst at anchor. Here is an excerpt from Rule 35 of the Collision Regulations:
      A vessel at anchor shall at intervals of not more than one minute ring the bell rapidly for about 5 seconds. In a vessel of 100 metres or more in length the bell shall be sounded in the forepart of the vessel and immediately after the ringing of the bell the gong shall be sounded rapidly for about 5 seconds in the after part of the vessel. A vessel at anchor may in addition sound three blasts in succession, namely one short, one prolonged and one short blast, to give warning of her position and of the possibility of collision to an approaching vessel.
