I personally consider Soldier Boy to be less evil than Homelander for one specific reason. Homelander has made it clear that he would happily wipe out humanity if he loses his fame, while Soldier Boy doesn't intentionally hurt people unless they're in his way. He's fine with collateral damage, but he isn't sadistic like Homelander. If you're not in his way, he won't intentionally hurt you.
Agreed, Soldier Boy could easily retire to a peaceful, quiet life by himself. Homelander lives and breathes the people’s adoration.
I would say Soldier Boy is a lot less dangerous to be around than Homelander but their still both equally evil. Homelander at the very least has no prejudices among humans, seeing them all as the same thing, while Soldier Boy has several.
I’d argue that that his lack of danger makes him worse or just as bad as Homelander from a certain point of view. Homelander is a threat to every living person because of his relentless need to be loved and adored by everyone, whereas Soldier Boy will simply go back to indulging in drugs, booze, and sex without a single care for any of the lives he’s taken or ruined like MM’s family or the people at herogasm. He may not have intended to hurt them, but he sure doesn’t put in any effort to make up for it.
@@LucyWest370 yeah. That indifference he has is just as bad as being straight up malicious in my opinion. I mean, think about how indifferent reactions to situations lead to death and destruction on a number of levels, all because someone doesn't feel anything towards a situation that has transpired where their test of morality is brought into question. Like, as an example from The Boys, Soldier Boy kills the priest and the nun because he has an understanding of Mindstorm's powers and what they can do to other people, so I get him being vigilant-but his indifference towards these people who are innocent and simply pawns in this little chess match he's got going with Mindstorm, is what allows him to kill them instead of finding a way to maybe restrain them until he's dealt with Mindstorm. That's pretty evil, even if he isn't aware of it or calls it that.
He's literally not a bad guy at all, just an asshole... They dropped the ball at the end of the season, it makes no sense for any of the characters to fight soldier boy vs Homelander.
The reason I like soldier boy is because he actually has some forms of morals and keeps his word even if he shows it in a strange way

I think people misunderstand Soldier Boy at the end, he didn’t want to kill his son or grandson if you watch the scene he has emotion in his eyes and prior to confronting Homelander he was drinking to cope with the fact that he has to kill him. This show just shows that SB is a jerk but a man of his words and a True Soldier because he puts the mission above everything even his personal feelings.
I also think he tried to kill him as he saw the worse aspects and than some of himself and most likely horrified at the evil deeds Homelander has done such as rape and murder.

I don’t think Soldier Boy despised Homelander because of his need for love, affection, and family. Soldier Boy admitted that he always wanted a family and he did struggle with deciding to kill Homelander. I think he was disgusted by Homelander because it was like looking into a mirror. Soldier Boy realized how much of a bad person he really is, and those same traits are present in his son. Homelander just like Soldier Boy is egotistical, insecure, has violent tendencies towards others, and they’re both frauds.
nobody really talks about how the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. they are so stuck on blaming everyone and everything else. we can enjoy them on tv but in real life, run.

I don’t think Soldier boy wanted to kill his grandson. What do I think then? He believes when he agrees to do something it should be followed through.
Now why did SB try killing Butcher? I think it’s because SB was more than willing to put his emotions aside and make the sacrifices necessary to take out Homelander, but then Butcher stopped him. Basically Butcher is a hypocrite that was just using SB and SB realized that.
Soldier Boy was objectively right too. Butcher let emotion get in the way of the mission, but by sparing Homelander countless civilians will no doubt be killed in future.

Butcher didn't know that Homelander was going to get away and escape if he saved Homelander's son. He was just trying to save a child's life and then the situation devolved. Not sure how that makes Butcher a hypocrite.

I love soldier boy. He is tough, cool, charming, hilarious, has great taste and is quick wit. Like that part where he said killing gunpowder was like killing Emanuel Lewis. That was so hilarious

its funny kripke told jensen to not act like dean but wrote a character where they have a lot of negative things that are glossed over with superficial charm and humor coolness, etc, with a veneer of heroism to boot.

Soldier Boy was a great character. Gave the show a wild card, third party villain that is willing to team up. Anime fans know what I'm talking about.
An excellent analysis, really well done. I like how you remembered the part where Soldier Boy actually agreed that he and Homelander are basically the same person. It's a powerful moment that seems to get overlooked.
The difference is Soldier hates himself and he doesn't see himself as a god he thinks he is a dissapoiment and a bad man but he hides it.

More like Homelander represents the worse aspects and then some of himself. Also most likely horrified of the evil deeds Homelander has done such as murder and rape etc.
I loved the Soldier Boy character! My favorite scene is when he first meets Homelander and diss him. I hope we see him again. Btw, I don’t think he is as bad as his son.
I think he’s a tragic fallen hero. His fatal flaw ultimately being wrath. He ends up causing a lot of collateral damage including the cost of innocent lives. We see how he’s affected MM kinda like how A train affected Huey.
He’s not a hero at all.

If Payback and Bought would've just said "were done with you." I'd be a betting man Soldier Boy would've just said well forget you guys and gone and smoked hefty bags of reefer and smashed grannies the rest of his days. He only went after people who had him tortured for half a century and would've let some of them go if he had his PTSD and new power under control. Yes he threw a car in MMs house and that is terrible no denying but that seems to just be a theme in this show with all superheros. Not purposefully harming innocents just not taking enough care to make sure they don't cause they know Bought will cover for them.In my opinion and I'll no doubt get "cancelled" for it in the comments the only reason Soldier Boy is deemed a villain is cause Prime went out of their way to make him a "male toxicity" poster boy. But if smoking drinking getting laid and not taking crap from anybody is toxic then Clint Eastwoods a villain too. I think Soldier Boy is the realest least hypocritical person in the show, but if you wanna tell me you'd just send a postcard to your backstabbing team after half a century of torture be my guest. He’s easily my favourite character in season 3 and despite his flaws I agree, the least despicable of Vought’s heroes (except Starlight of course).

I’d be interested in seeing a video on Shane Walsh from the walking dead tv show. I always thought the was a sympathetic antagonist who often stole any scene he was in.
He was ahead of his time he just wasn’t super intelligent but he was still a cool character. I feel like Negan took the sympathetic antagonist role away from him though JDM is a superior actor in my opinion and Negan is a better character.
I feel like he was right more often than not when it came to making day to day survival decisions for the group but over time he fell victim to his interpersonal issues as his influence on the group dwindled.
To me he was in a catch 22 situation where in the end the only way he could see himself being able to do what he felt needed to be done to protect the three people he cared about most (Lori, his unborn child and Carl) was to remove his best friend / rival who is to the best of our knowledge his 4th most cared about person.
One could argue in circles how valid his sense of entitlement to those relationships or leadership of the group was but it looked as though Shane didn’t necessarily want to be at odds with his friend or even want to kill the man but felt like at a certain point it was the only way to protect and be with the people he cared about most in his previous capacity.
I suspect he thought If he fell in line to Rick and Hershel who often meant well but at the time weren’t making particularly sound decisions that it would eventually spell doom for the entirety of the group, such as releasing a known hostile prisoner whom is familiar with the Greene family and where they live to potentially link up with his known hostile group.
Soldier boy keeps people scared because he is a bomb.And he is.That should not be taken lightly.Thats some good writing.
I really hope for a return of Soldier Boy. Imagine waking up another 50 years or even 100 years later... his life is a tragedy haha.

I rarely see this level of quality put into the analysis of a character on CZcams. Because of the high number of viewpoints, use of vocabulary, etc., I can tell a lot of thought went into writing for this video. This is excellent content.
9:28 This moment specifically is what makes Soldier Boy such a compelling sorta-antagonist for me.
One could argue that Soldier Boy is just slamming Homelander for being emotionally vulnerable here but I think it goes much deeper than that. SB's father first called him a "disappointment" because he displayed neither virtue nor strength growing up. Bad dad or no, he was basically right to consider his son a "fuckup." To address his own weakness, and hopefully gain a semblance of honor in the eyes of his father, SB ultimately became a Supe and "fought" in WWII. However, this did nothing to improve his character; instead it allowed him to put on all the theatrics of heroism without really exhibiting it. Take away the facade and the chemically induced superpowers and he's still the same loser with no real accomplishments to his name. This truly puts his catchphrase, "you guys are the real heroes," into new perspective.
SB's powers gave him a sense of honor, a new self-image, but it was one rooted in popularity rather than the exercise of true virtue. This partially explains his obsession with keeping all the other members of his team down, as it's his sense of notoriety that gives him a perception of self-worth. The consequence of this attitude, as the show demonstrates, is a cruel and domineering attitude toward his own teammates.
I think it's in his encounter with Homelander that SB finally sees the failures of his own worldview. Homelander's powers and public image are EVERYTHING to him, but this doesn't magically transform him into a man of character. Instead his glory only disguises a lack of achievement, and his apparent strength belies a man so weak that he relies on others for validation. SB notices all of this, and it's what makes the words "I'm you" so heartbreaking for him. Deep down, he knows he never really became strong; all the bragging and domineering only served to compensate for his taking a "shortcut" to hero status.
Ultimately this is why SB's such a great character to me. He might not show much honor but he knows what it is, and he knows that superpowers don't suddenly confer it onto a person. His actions may be deplorable but there's still some level of moral sense underlying his motivations. Hopefully he can come back, somehow, in later seasons.
I hope he does come back and in a really badass while at the same time in a redeeming kind of way. Like maybe Homelander is finally going berserk around the city, and Mallory decides she has no choice but to wake up Soldier Boy and try to reason with him. He gets his suit back, maybe a shield replacement? Or maybe they had already found a way to stitch back up his shield before that point.
Then, at some point, Homelander is choking one of the main characters (I’m thinking either MM or Starlight for certain reasons) and out of nowhere, a hand grabs Homelander’s throat, and it’s Soldier Boy’s. He says something badass then proceeds to completely launch Homelander across the room and a fight starts.
I believe Soldier Boy changed during the 40 years of torture and experimentation... he was a walking tank and a hedonistic bully.... so nobody could humble him. I mean it's not like they didn't try to humble him...
When he got captured and tortured.... he became humbled and learnt humility by the powerlessness he felt in those 40 years... he drastically changed in terms of personality. Being rejected by his team out of spite.... he became permanently depressed and decided to not give a shit about anything anymore...
The Soldier Boy that survived all those 40 years of cruel experimentation and came out a changed man... he is cynical, depressed, focused and assertive... this is a Soldier Boy his father would be proud enough of to call his son.
Which Soldier Boy probably realized when he saw Homelander's behaviour... he realized that he was the problem back then. That Homelander is behaving like him now the way Soldier Boy has been prior to his "vacation" in Russia.
Soldier Boy is my favorite supe due to him being a badass. I think he can still beat homelander for I think SB is evolving with his new found powers. Once he masters it and whatever new powers he might get (BIG IF), he'd be a super badass.
100% agree, he could be argued to be the most powerful supe already, with the ability to fry the compound V out of others.

After watching S3, I've got to say Soldier Boy was the best part of it. Jensen Ackles was the right pick for the character, he just oozes charisma.
About who is the most evil villain, definitely Homelander. As much as he might be an a-hole, Soldier Boy at least acknowledges the fact of killing civilians as bad. Homelander has such a god complex that he feels everyone should worship him even if he killed their whole family. One of the things I loved Soldier Boy for this last season is because he proved something most suspected about Homelander: he is an unmitigated coward. Their fight in S3 was the first time both of them found an adversary on their own level of strenght. When SB got hit by HL, he looked surprised, but he started hitting back, stoic as a rock. Homelander, though? He had never met someone who could actually kick his rear, and when he realized he didn't have the power superiority he usually has... he cowers. He tries to play the family card, even putting Ryan in danger so he didn't have to fight him. Hell, he even tries to recruit Maeve, after everything he's done to her, to fight SB (and Maeve just laughs in his face).
Am I hoping to see him in the series again? Yes. Hell ****ing yes. Now he has a bone to pick with the Boys, after they put him on ice again. You can say what you want about Soldier Boy, but he is a man of purpose and a man of his word. If he gets out of hibernation, he would be on the warpath, both against the Boys and against Homelander. With all due respect, I believe Soldier Boy is the villain this series deserves. Plus, I'd love to see some interaction between Soldier Boy and Mallory, just to see how he reacts xD.
Absolutely, Soldier Boy was a great addition to the show, best thing about S3. While he has his flaws, he was my favourite character in S3.
The way I see it, the big difference is that homelander has a superiority complex, while soldier boy has inferiority complex.

I go back and forth on him, when watching the show, I pitied him and was disappointed how he was disposed of in the season finale.I can understand him when it comes to be betrayed and plus Jensen Ackles acting. However while Homelander is worse, Soldier Boy isn't a saint and some of the worst I have seen of people IRL up close I see in Soldier Boy which makes it unnecessarily complicated

Soldier boy doesn’t despise the notion of men needing love and attention, and he’s not disgusted at homelander for crying over the lost years they didn’t spend, he despises how “starved for attention” homelander is and earlier in the episode he was even contemplating whether to carry on with the mission to kill his son but decided to because homelander was too far gone and the “mission” was more important, not because he doesn’t like father son relationships lol wtf😂😂…and he was disgusted at butcher’s hypocrisy for telling soldier boy to “focus on the mission” because homelander “wasn’t his son” but then right after he “looses focus on the mission” for Ryan who definitely “wasn’t his son” contradicting what he wanted of soldier boy

Soldier Boy is interesting to me because he's the embodiment of "being the hero of your own story". His perception of himself is so twisted that he can't see that he's not the good guy; going as far as to shoot a priest and brush it off with 'Mindstorm was controlling them' without any concrete evidence or making an insensitive comment to MM when confronted at Hero-gasm about throwing a car which killed his grandad.
But he was on the same team for YEARS with mindstorm, so I think he KNEW otherwise we wouldn't have killed them. And plus beforehand he was hearing shit, so possibly he was hearing mindstorm. Sups got really good hearing even though it's not their power.

Despite him being a racist, misogynistic, narcissistic, and over-inflated egotistical bully, I still found him engaging and didn’t hate him as much I do Homelander. I hope Eric Kripke brings him back. Grace Mallory has him on ice again, but will most likely wake, wind him up, and turn him loose when Homelander and Billy Butcher becomes a threat to the world. Butcher turning on Soldier Boy will turn out to be his biggest mistake. They both had the chance to kill Homelander and didn’t take it. Then Ryan chose HL because Butcher pushed him away. Going forward, it’ll be a fight for Ryan’s soul and I highly doubt all of this will have a happy ending. It’ll be bittersweet at best.

I can't help but like him. His character reminds me of my dad and my grandad. They weren't "bad guys" they were just products of their time. When he's watching the commercials on tv and is discussed by them, it reminds me of my friends dad. When they put women on match of the day 😂 its not hurtful
My problem with him being labelled as a villain is that we know very little about him. He is a jerk and has a massive ego and expects everyone to like him and has done bad things but a lot of the "evil" things he's done doesn't sit right with me because we'll told those things from the people he's hurt not shown (that's a common thing that happens in the show lol), MM not even a flashback with what happened but with BN story its hard to believe because its shown through his imaginary friends and its common when something like that happens there is 3 accounts for how it happened, how Solider boy remembers it, how Black Noir remembers it and what really happened. Also he's very unlike other supes who rely on their strength and powers but SB knows how to fight and thinks strategically like in the episode with Mindstorm and also in Nicaragua while payback were causing problems SB was actually doing stuff and fighting the Russians. Like he said he would give up the spotlight for Homelander and calls him a disappointment wanting him to better then himself he also respects Butcher and is happy to help if Butcher helps him he doesn't intentionally hurt innocents but doesn't care collateral damage either which makes me think he is a good guy with good intentions but does think he's bigger and more important. In conclusion I think he wants to be hero and isn't all bad just a massive jerk who unintentionally hurts people and doesn't think twice about it which is kind of villainous.

I would like a full confirmation in season 4 for what happened to MM and how Soldier Boy treated his team. Then maybe my opinion on him will change. I agree. We have no first hand knowledge of anything that's actually happened. And everything that the legend says is Highly Questionable anyway. In the comics he's known to either exaggerate or flat out lie for no apparent reason. Soldier Boy was legitimately angered at the thought of his sacrifices in World War II being forgotten. You don't get that angry over a lie. Additionally I think this analysis was highly flawed and a lot of ways. Soulja Boy does not justify hurting people because they deserved it, he openly admitted to Huey that he never intended to hurt the people in New York when he detonated. That's when he proclaimed himself "not a bad guy". His sense of morality comes from an age when we didn't bother ourselves down with everyone else's perspectives and feelings. He carries that same sense of white and black right and wrong with him today. In This Modern society that's going to step on a lot of toes, but it doesn't make him a villain. If anything it makes it more honest.

The way I see SB is that he embodies a certain sense of masculinity as well as a typical "soldier mentality" (who would have thought). I dont think he would willingly kill innocents for no reason. He even says that he didnt want to kill the civilians in the street and that it was accident. The aforementioned "soldier mentality" is a "the mission comes first" and "good soldiers follow orders" mindset I would say. He will obey orders and get the mission done, not caring about collateral damage in the process. MM even states (iirc) that SB carelessly threw a car and that caused his families death. The "racist" aspect is that SB supposedly did not care about them dying because they were black. I, however, think he didnt care because they were just collateral damage who were at the wrong time in the wrong place. This "only the mission matters, not collateral damage" mindset also comes into play when he wants to go through with nuking homelander, despite others (Butcher, Ryan) being there. They made a deal and SB stays true to his word. Kill Homelander and f*ck the collateral damage, he will see the mission through no matter what.
But is he racist? I dont think so. I think he may have some racist tendencies but that has to be seen through the lense of what generation he is from. He is just from a different time period. When he sees an interracial homosexual couple he seems confused for a moment, but not because he is homophobic or racist (per se) but rather because you would never see something like that this openly in the public in his time. So he might be a little bit racist, but what we have seen is honestly not so bad in comparison, considering the time and generation he is from.
Now about his treatment of Noir and the rest of his team. I think he treated them badly, but his mistreatment of Noir didnt look racist to me. He treated gunpowder more or less the same. I understood his comment about Noir "moving up the ladder" (or something like that) in the training scene as being part of his military mindset. He seemed to view his team as soldiers, but they didnt see it that way (I believe). And any soldier will tell you that: never f*ck with the chain of command. Something Noir did by trying to make a solo career.
His mistreatment of his teammates seems to be connected to his masculinity ideal/view, which itself came from his father: man HAVE to be strong to gain respect. If you are weak you will gain no respect and be treated like shit. That can be seen by how he treated gunpowder in the flashback. But that strength does not have anything to do with power, but rather with strength of character. He hits Hughie for "complaining" or "whining", he beats up gunpowder and calls him pathetic. He even calls homelander, the strongest Supe in the show, weak. Yet I think he has respect for Butcher, who SB views as strong (until Butcher backs out on their deal in the end). He even has a moment with Hughie when they talk.
I would argue that he is less of a jerk after his return than he was in the past. But it also has to be said that we mainly see his jerkish behaviour of the past through gunpowders description and Noirs flashback. Two victims of his abuse and while I think that it was generally true I would give him (SB) the slight benefit of the doubt on that one and that he was bad, but not as bad as he is portrayed in for example Noirs flashback. I mean Noir is literally a traumatized victim with brain damage. Maybe not the most reliable of narrators.
I think he was willing to kill Ryan is because he's following Butcher's advice. Just like Homelander Ryan isn't really his family cause he wasn't there to raise him. Someone once told me that just because you share blood, that doesn't make them family.
Soldierboy has PTSD; marijuana is used to treat PTSD. It’s not really recreational.
Dont forget the torture he was put through.
SB is a product of his father’s disappointment toward him. He just wanted approval from his dad, but his dad never gave it to him. It’s hard to break down the psychology of it, but not having approval by your parents can make people turn cold and hard. He was never shown love or support, same as homelander. I don’t think SB was upset that homelander acted weak. I think that SB would’ve acted the same way towards homelander either way. He’s a product of how he was raised.
I think SB was upset with how Homelander turned out just like him. Seeing his own child turn into a horrible person like himself, he made the decision to takeout Homelander seeing his as a failure and a disappointment.

I think the only mission that are staged were the latter wars the US have entered i.e. vietnam. Stan Edgar exclaimed in season when talling to homelander that soldier boy killed germans by the dozen. Stan Edgar has no reason to lie to homelander at that moment since he was lecturing the big baby.
There was a scene where the Legend mentioned that the filming of his storming of Normandy was done a week after the actual event. But it’s also true that he did fight some Germans.

Soldier Boy doesn't even seem aware of the damage he caused.
I still fail to see Soldier Boy as a villain. Yeah, he hurt people, he destroyed Herogasm, he drenched Manhattan in radiation, but like he said, he didn't want to hurt those people. Almost all the times we've seen him use his power was when his PTSD kicked in from all those years in that Russian lab.
Also he was willing to kill Homelander, he was a man of his word. But what will that mean to him anymore ?? Everybody that teamed up with him ended up betraying him. I can only imagine the pain he endured, being betrayed first by Payback and Vought, and at the end by Butcher and Hughie.
He can't trust anyone anymore. If he is supposed to be a villain, then he'll surely be one in S4, but in S3 he really wasn't.

Yup. I mean people bring up his abuse of Payback but we KNOW what those supes are like. What Payback describe as physical abuse could very well be Soldier Boy actually disciplining a bunch of spoiled and narcissistic individuals.
Ironically Gunpowder came off as the least crappy hero of all of them and coincidentally he was the only one that defended Solider Boy.
I guess I do feel sympathy for Black Noir but I don't think his version of events should be trusted. The dude was an assasin for Vought, not really a good person at all. The objective brutality he suffered from Soldier Boy came after he betrayed him.

after finishing the show, he's my favourite character, he's an absolute powerhouse who was able to resist homelander's laser eyes receiving a mere cut and was able to not only resist starlight's full power but also his weakness the nerve agent. On the psychological side i love his depth as a character and how he himself is his own tragedy.

Soldier boy is evil for sure but seems a little less sadistic than homelander
Soldier Boy was an abuser and a poor leader. However, he is far more complex than Homelander who was an absolute psychopath. Ben was psychologically abused by his father for most of his life and desired actual love which he found when he became Soldier Boy. Despite this, Soldier Boy did fight in World War II despite what the Legend claims and joined many classified missions as a result making him taken seriously by both the U.S. Government and later the USSR. He tried to gain his father's approval but he didn't get it even after his father's death. This likely made Ben so bitter that he relied on his Soldier Boy identity to cope with failing to prove to his father and family he did not cheat his way into being a hero. Soldier Boy abused other heroes like Noir because he sees himself in them as nothing more than entitled failures who took shortcuts to fame and glory as he did.
Nevertheless, Soldier Boy still was a soldier and participated in many battles and black ops missions for the U.S. Government even immoral acts (spraying Civil Rights Activists) on their behalf. Mallory hated Soldier Boy but did not understand that most of Soldier Boy's crimes were Soldier Boy taking orders from the U.S. Government and Vought. Soldier Boy was a loyal patriot and even worked well in Afghanistan when he told Hughie. However, the events of the U.S. Government and Vought betraying him and destroying the work Soldier Boy worked hard for to be seen as an actual competent, hardworking person, not a short-cut guy made him upset. Soldier Boy did everything to prove to his father (even if his father is dead) that he truly did do a "man's job" and not a cheater who found a shortcut to get an easy and wealthy life. Soldier Boy is a person who wants to redeem himself to his family for being a spoiled and ungrateful child being raised in a privileged life. Ben always misses his father to the point he tortures and hates himself for ruining his relationship with him.
Solider boys character was great because like stormfront he was introduced to be the obstacle of the season. We’re led to not believe that at first but obviously by the end he is. When introducing these characters that are supposed to be obstacles and to some extent antagonists it’s hard to rival homelander. They did well with stormfront while admittedly taking a bit of a cheap route since it’s so easy to get on board with hating a nazi but she was well done and different enough from homelander to be interesting while smartly playing into their similarities by having them team up. With soilder boy I think they realized they couldn’t pull that off again so they didn’t start him off in a straight up antagonistic role. That was a smart call but what’s best about him is how different he is from homelander. They weren’t trying to make a villain to rival him this time they were making something completely different. Homelander is sadistic and insane and evil while soilder boy, he’s just an asshole. His character was funny in a way because while homelander is this force of just pure human evil soilder boy was just a dickhead and a very powerful one at that. It was refreshing to see how well they handled introducing a new character like this for the season while not overshadowing or outdoing homelander.
Honestly yeah also Soldier Boy being a Homelander before Homelander was also neat. I do like how much the differences between him and Homelander is really from a vastly different era and culture. In a way they are quite similar in how they bully their colleagues to cope with their bad childhood but the manner they do it is what sets them apart. Soldier Boy wants to prove that he is a 'man' and what society perceived it at the time. Homelander wants to prove that he is beyond man and that he's 'better' than what society thinks of him, despite his want for approval
Vought could also have already suspected that Soldier Boy, based on his psychology, would be a critical mission liability

One of my favorite things about Supes like Soldier Boy(regardless of his new chest blast) and Noir, are the ones that are just strong. Their power is their super strength and almost all of them really well adept at hand to hand. Noir is Vought's main clean up guy that is an expert at stealth, recon, and hand to hand. SB despite being an actor and not an actual soldier, he's very competent at being one. He doesn't seem to be a novice, stops Huey from walking into a trap, and as seen by the end of the season is taking on multiple supes at once including someone like Butcher who would have equal hand to hand training as him.
It's nice to see people like them who can actually fight like regular humans, and don't just rely on their ability. They're not a one trick pony.
I need a Soldier Boy Series , Soldier Boy honours the Man's Word when given , he is a 40's douche , but have some qualities , Homelander is a sociopath , but BOTH are victims of the same greedy corporation and hypocrite society, the real enemy is the Society , not matter is the greedy capitalist of the west or the communies of the east

Homelander is more mentally unstable than Solider Boy is, and Homelander also has less ethics than Soldier Boy.
Would also argue that Butcher was more of the villain this season. No matter how you parse it, Soldier Boy was willing to put aside his personal feelings for the greater good. The goal of the mission only fell short cause of Butcher's incessant, prolonged focus on fighting Soldier Boy to kill him rather than bring him back on the mission target - Homelander

Main difference between SB and HL is that while both of them are jerks, HL has a chance of transformation and he actually do a small but sustainable progress as a person - his relationships with son are very close to normal and he sometimes can interact with people almost normally.
Looks like HL needs as push for transformation and is waiting for it.
SB cannot do any progress and looks like nothing can change him. So HL is actually an upgrade, while SB is completed asshole with no chance to change.

I don't see the character so much as a villain but a soldier looking to complete a mission. He was the only character that stayed true to it, even at the cost of destroying his own flesh and blood.
I still hate that they made soldier boy the villain at the end. He is the real hero and true to his word. A real soldier.
I would like for him to at least be mentioned in the next season like maybe the experiment in him again to find out what he shoots out if him to disable powers so they can use it against superhumans whome they cant control like homelander

Gas didnt work on SB, but room was so full of it there was barely/not any oxigen to breathe which knocked SB down just temporarily. Even that wouldnt work on HL considering he regularly flies to fkn space where obv theres no oxigen. When HL was fighting him too, his punches didnt do shit to SB which is why he went for choking before Billy stepped in

I think his concept was way different. I mean SB in live action and SB cartoon Eagle in BN head has literally no connection. In BN head he’s literally Homelander, selfish angry sadist but when they actually showing him in a past, yeah he’s kinda of a selfish but his not being jerk, he was trying to impress girl she wasn’t impressed and he wasn’t kidnapping her for denial, SB just took it and when she passed out and wakes up the only sup who was actually fighting were SB.

What differs Soldier boy and Homelander is that Soldier boy has lived a semi-normal life with his father and went to an actual school. Homelander is simply a corporate product.
