Sometimes his videos give me goosebumps
Yeah its either 😬 or 😖

I usually don’t like watching injuries happen but I'm throughly enjoying this series.
@@AliM-kl5rp It's his reactions; us common folk are mostly thinking "ooh, that looked rough", but he as a doctor knows all the possibilities from said event, and his brain seems to go into hyperdrive. For the rest of us, if we don't clearly see what happened like the Nick Chubb injury earlier this NFL season, we assume the guy maybe just walks it off during the commercial break.
What a coincidence. Just tore my ACL from basketball today, and he posts a video on basketball injuries. Thank you for what you do Dr Mike!!!
Condolences mate, hope you make a full recovery. Must feel like a prison.
Damn hope u make a full and quick recovery

I had to do this on friday to my dad, sadly it didnt work. I was told by the med examiner that i gave him the best chance and im thankful to mike for that

Gordon Hayward's injury still haunts me to this day.
Scary can’t believe he still plays

That looked so bad

@@Zoom960 gordons foot twists the other way
The Kevin Ware injury is still one of the most horrifying things I've seen. Gotta get Dr. Mike's reaction to that one.
what about paul george?
Yeah, but this video is specifically talking about NBA injuries. That one happened at a college game.
I thought that one would be on here, and I just now learned that he was a college ball player
I WAS SO HORRIFIED FROM HIS INJURY
The Kevin Ware injury is still one of the most horrifying things I've. ! Gotta get Dr. Mike's reaction to that one.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain the injuries in a way that doesn’t minimize them. It seems like there’s a tendency in sport to downplay injury and have people return before the body has had enough time to fully recover.
It's popular in a lot of sports to go through the pain and a strong mind will overcome it. Soooo stupid ! 🤦🏽♀️
@@oceaneo4603 agreed. Back when I was pretty seriously training in ballet to an extent there was a similar mentality which was not great but may explain some of the long-term issues I experience now.
Former NHLer Paul Kariya was in the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals when he was on the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They were up against the New Jersey Devils. Scott Stevens laid out Kariya with a hit to the head. Kariya went off for two shifts, came back, and scored an iconic goal. Aside from the fact that he shouldn't have returned, the scary thing is he doesn't remember any of it. It was Sidney Crosby's concussion that changed the course of the NHL and how they deal with concussions. We've come along way with dealing with concussions and head injuries in sports.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain the injuries in a way that doesn’t minimize them. It seems like there’s a tendency in sport to downplay injury and have people return before the body has had enough time to fully recover.
It's very much like with Isaiah Thomas where they further aggravated his hip injury that took him out of the sport permanently
Daniels's injury was scary. The way he went limp and just laid there is always a terrifying scenario to watch play out.
Indeed. When someone goes limp like that, a fractured neck is the biggest fear. Thank god it was just a bruised spinal cord and nothing worse…
The Derrick Rose one still gets me. Dude was on his way to being one of the greats. Same with John Wall.
Those crazy explosive small guards seem to break down after a few years. It’s almost as if the body isn’t supposed to move that way. They’re too strong/fast for their bones and ligaments. It makes me worry for guys like Ja Morant.
Weird request perhaps, but I think it would be cool to see a video like this regarding horseback riding injuries. They're some of the most brutal in sports, and I'd like to hear a doctor discuss them.
A horseback riding injury killed Superman (Christopher Reeve)
@@geoffroi-le-Hook ...eventually...
How
@@TommyWyman If you're asking about Christopher Reeve, he fell off while show jumping and broke his back and was partially paralyzed for a long time. I don't remember exactly what killed him, but it was complications from that.
Rip Christopher Reeve
Hockey injuries should be next. Here’s a short-list, for variety:
- Trent McCleery (windpipe)
- Brian Berard (eye)
- Erik Karlsson (Achilles cut)
- Marc Methot (finger slash)
- Jiri Fischer (cardiac arrest)
- Malarchuk/Zednik (lacerations…NSFW)
- Greg Campbell (broken ankle…THE SHIFT!)
- Bob Baun (broken leg)
- Steven Stamkos (broken leg due to goalpost)
Oh, I still have Stammer PTSD.
Kane for the cut wrist as well! In the game Edmonton against Tampa 🫣
@@Gracey_104 oh, I forgot about that. There's another player too that went into cardiac arrest on the bench semi recently, but the name is escaping me.
(Edit; it was Rich Peverly)
Oh, also when Stamkos took a puck to the face during a playoff game in Boston and came right back out...bro just needs to stay out of Boston.
Also John Tavares when he got decapitated by Perry
Not including Paul George snapping his like a twig is criminal easily one of the craziest injuries to ever happen in the NBA
I must say I have enormous respect for you (Dr Obaz) considering the manners in which I received my complete treatment for Hpv after taking your medication. God bless you for coming through for me Doc!!!!
as a dancer i think it’d be rlly cool if you reviewed dance injuries! i’ve had quite a few myself and i’ve seen some of my teammates injure themselves too, people rlly don’t give dancers enough credit

I second this, I'm from Edmonton so hockey is in my blood lol. That jugular shear that happened to the goalie would be an interesting thing to hear about from a doctor

His breakdown of Jack Eichel's injury and surgery. Or better yet, the concussion of Sidney Crosby that changed the course of the NHL and how they deal with concussions.
You should look into Kevin Ware's injury, it was absolutely gruesome.
Nah imagine he saw Gordon Hayward as injury. That was very gruesome. But yeah Kevin Ware injury made me not want to jump for a long time.
What
He did recover from it and made a comeback to play which was good to see
I was expecting to see that in this video! I don't watch basketball, but I was waiting at a bar for someone half watching that game and saw that happen. They only showed the full replay a couple times before someone at the network thought to skip the really gruesome part
my neck pain is definitely from not having proper use of my rotator cuffs, it makes sense now that you explained it. Thanks Dr. Mike!

I’m kind of surprised you didn’t cover Gordon Hayward! I love your videos Dr Mike keep ‘em going!!
Oh my God, that was gnarly!
Me watching injury compilations:
*Oooo, that looked REALLY bad. Hope they’re okay*
Dr. Mike watching injury compilations:
*I know exactly what happened and it’s making my body retract into my soul*
So regarding your question about ankle/foot injuries:
A lot of players, Steph and Lebron included, have found that having too MUCH heel and ankle support actually causes more stress and torque to be imparted to the knees as as a result, actually causing MORE injuries. They found that by reducing the height, they were able to train for both better mobility AND ankle strength, allowing them to make their legs stronger overall without overworking their knees.
I love Dr. Mike's over dramatic reactions to injuries I see every week.
how the hell PG13's injury not here?
It’s nasty
Even Kevin ware
I fractured my elbow doing a vault in gymnastics when I was 16. The head of my radius snapped off and was crushed in the socket. The doctor removed the bone fragments and stitched me up. This was 45 years ago. I've always wondered if that's what doctors still do or if there are other treatments.

There was a girl in my middle school gym class that did a herkie jump for fun and landed wrong on the sidewalk. Her bone was sticking out of her knee and they had to call an ambulance to the school . Lets just say she had a pretty solid excuse to getting out of gym class that day .

To answer his question at 3:31 NBA players do in fact jam their fingers very often. However, this happens so often that they usually can play through it. If the jam is a little worse, players will play through, then when the coach takes them out to rest, will have their fingers wrapped. You see this all the time, especially on players that dunk a lot and with a lot of force, like Jaylen Brown on the Boston Celtics. He constantly has his right middle and ring finger wrapped together from dunking.
These videos are very insightful and interesting to watch. I would love to see you provide some insight to some NHL injuries.
I would love to see this series continue onto the NHL. Mike's reaction to something like Bobby Baun would be really interesting.
A video on Australian Rules football would have most of America clutching their pearls in horror.

@@allyc6261 I was thinking of that one too
I'd love to see him talk about Kariya getting obliterated by Stevens, managed to resume and score, and has no memory of it today. It's wild to me that someone can have such a severe concussion yet be able to still play well enough to score but have no memory now!

Hey Doctor Mike, I have a video recommendation. What if you gather many doctors from different medical fields to basically describe what they do to help students getting into medical school make a decision on which speciality they can pick?
He should definitely do that

I'd love to see you react to a crunchy mum! Really very crunchy has some hilarious skits about curing her family's sickness.
Love watching your videos! You should react to NHL injuries
It’s different from sport to sport, but teams are usually tentative about declaring injuries because it’s a whole process.
Players are usually updated on the team’s injury report, which usually comes after consult with the team’s medical staff. So there’s no need to immediately diagnose, since the press and fans would run with it immediately before knowing the impact to the team.
Reacting to injuries will ALWAYS be the best content ever from Doctor Mike!!!❤️❤️
The thing with Lebron is that he has rolled his ankles pretty badly all his career and just played on, you can see that him being older now and getting hurt the same way is definitely taking a bigger toll
Exactly. So my question is why hasn't he started to wear ankle braces or at the very least high top shoes? It seems like he could spare himself of some of these injuries if he did.
@@MadisonAiello Players these days don't like wearing high tops cuz they restrict mobility. Today's game puts way more emphasis on player movement with the changing of rules on how physical defenders can be.
There was this really bad injury once, it was from former celtics forward Gordon hayward and that day on the court he broke his leg. Some videos on youtube are blocked it was so bad.

I worked in retail and we used metal display hooks that were pretty substantial. I walked down an aisle one time and didn't notice one in my peripheral vision until it was too late. I walked my eye (the one with significantly better vision, too) straight into a display hook. I was too afraid to open it until we got to urgent care, but my eye was completely fine. I must have closed it just in time, so it was just a bit sore from the impact. I even went back to work and finished my shift since I was fine. 😂
