Yeah I think in the original he was roughly the same height which makes zero sense. It was also kinda weird to me that the SheZow render had a different face than Guy. Their design team messed with a few details.
One episode I really love is the one where Guy gets to see his aunt's spirit in his dream, and she tells him that the ring always knows who has to wear it. And the ring knew not to pick Kelly.
Loved this show as a kid, binged the entire show on Netflix till the end. Definetly loved it bc I was a huge femboy (but also it was awesome) I will say tho, that Guy didn't just "steal" His sister's chance at being Shezow, I remember distinctly in one episode that it's said that the ring "chooses" who becomes next (I interpereted this as If Kelly put it on, maybe the ring wouldn't have worked. I forget the reason why, but I remember it was in an episode where he got to talk to the previous shezow for some reason.
Oh yeah, that’s definetly an aspect of the story to! Sorry, I only said that for the spoiler free version but the fact that Guy was always meant to be SheZow is a very important part of this story.

Commenting for the algorithm mainly But honestly yea the whole aunt agnes only just dying thing stood out to me too since the rest of the fam seems fine, so i like your idea of showing that guy truly is grieving but is just hiding it ^^
I get why they didn’t get into grief as a theme for the kids show but I also think it’s a really big shame, since coping with loss and showing “weakness” in a time you’re “suposed” to be strong for others is a very gendered issue. Not all the time but it has roots in the patriarchy.

Just watched the Negative Legend video about SheZow, where I found a rec to your fic in the comments that I looked up. Just to see an announcement as the last chapter, and I was like, "oh no, it's dead" but no, it just redirected here. I'll be reading it, good work!
The name SheZow sounded alot better the way they pronounced it in the pilot, like _"ka-CHOW!", "ba-ZOW!" or "wu-POW!"_ it's supposed to be a pun based on an onomatopoeia, but for some reason in the show they felt a need to emphasize the "she" bit, like they thought the kids wouldn't get it otherwize. Another thing I liked about the pilot that didn't carry over to the main show was Maz having a crush on SheZow without knowing that it was actually Guy, but alas I guess TV networks weren't ready for that kind of relationship arc and instead opted for the whole side-kick running gag 😮💨 Even if you don't end up using Maz for it, have you considered doing that sort of double life plot for your reboot? I think it's an interesting way to further explore gender and sexuality, regardless whether it actually ends with a reciprocated romance or not. It can both give Guy an opening to question his romantic preferences, but also give him yet another taste of the female experience - as an object of male desire (albeit a very kiddie-friendly version if it) oh and one last thing, the art also looked better in the pilot. Like, not the greatest and not rly to my tastes, but what they ended up with in the actual show just looks like ass imo _Speaking of art styles, I really like yours!_ It feels very solid and simple while still having a good amount of detail but in a way that feels economical, which is very good for animation. Reminds me a bit of Monster Allergy with the ears and noses, which I just wanted to point out bc that appeals to me personally^^
Oh THAT’S what the name is about! I always knew it was slightly part of it but I didn’t know to what extent! Maz having a crush on SheZow without him knowing it was guy is cool but I didn’t end up going that way in this story. There’s a chapter where Maz isn’t in on the secret and we get to see them interact but he finds out during that chapter. BUT the main ship of this fic IS Maz and Guy. It’s a slow burn though so be warned. There is definitely a huge arch about the sexuality and identity thing The art did look better in the pilot, a little. I wasn’t a fan of the designs though. The style they decided on was interesting but not it. Thank you! My art lends well to cartoons so this was a good show to use it in. I haven’t watched that show in a while! I’ll have to take a look at it to refresh my memory.

But the big point is they don't give 2 damns because it's a decade old and not in their targeted sites, almost like they only talk about what's most relevant to drum up engagement and rage bait. Yeeaaah, one of the issues about writing a story with these concepts (gender non conformity, queerness, and challenging sexism) so front and center stage is that it’s like putting a target for conservatives to get mad about. Thankfully, I’ve mostly only gotten attention from like minded folks for this fic but I did have to delete the comment of someone on here being transphobic. This story is not an invitation to debate about whether or not these issues are valid. It’s to give people who feel seen by this story a place to finally be represented because the whiners keep ruining stuff for them. Thank you for the comment! There will always be negativity in the world but there will also always be positivity.
I do things like this with stories all the time! I see a review of a bad movie/show with an interesting concept and come up with my own better version. I should start writing/drawing that stuff again. Love this!
