  • This is our journey from dead to driving in this 88 YJ Jeep. We bought someone's abandoned project Jeep as a first vehicle for my daughter. From here, we will be going through all the body damage, mechanical issues and bringing it back to life as a fun little Cruiser! Did I mention, Jeeps are some of the easiest vehicles to work on in the world!

On that transmission fluid level. If you check a torqueflight cold, it'll read high due to convertor drain back. Drive it, park it on the level with wheels chocked, and put it in neutral. Then check the fluid. Interesting that it's a 4cyl auto from 88. I've always seen 94 as the first year of getting an auto with a 4 cylinder. And dogs love Jeeps.

Did Canada receive non-renix 4cyl jeeps in 1988? I have a brat 89 Renix 4cyl YJ (bought in the states) and I wish it had a fuel rail, automatic transmission, roll bars to protect it’s back seat occupants, and two roll-over valves on the gas tank…. Good video tho! Im glad the old girl still had life in her and thank you!

I am honestly new to Jeeps, so I only have familiarity with this one. I believe it's an AMC 151ci. 4 cylinder. It has a 904 Dodge 3 speed auto. It seems really good. Right nowI am deep into Rust repair. Thanks for the comments!

Isn’t it amazing how you can watch the car shows on tv and they’ll pull a motor and do all the work for electrical, fuel, brake rebuild and replace and get it running by the next day. Good job !! You and your family have a great New Year up there. 🎉👍

I was thinking that too! Imagine if I had started the video with I got 3 days to get this thing to run and drive or I'll lose the shop! Happy new year to you too!

@@Mynextproject_74 I’ve been working on my old Chevy C20 pu. It was Dads but I’ve had it since 95. I took videos & pics of everything I took off to get the engine out. Several boxes of parts in baggies. So the engine is all ready to lift out. But the truck is beside my little garage back out in the alley. Our house is 100 yrs old so the garage was built fora 1927 Ford. It’s just a work shop now. It’s cold and snowy here in Colorado, so I have to wait for some warmer weather to put my brand new GM Performance 350 in it. I will get that project done before I go back to work on my old Demon. I need to put some videos out here, But I really suck at trying to edit them. I’d really like to try to get the Demon to the NNN this year. I just drove there as a spectator this last time. Had a great time meeting all the guys from YT and see all their cars. Stay warm !

"....things that are 'bout' to explode, die, and break " That die part sounds pretty ugly. Happy Canadian New Year !

The fuel pressure regulator failed because of the brake fluid. I did the same thing. If you look at the old one you will see the ruber on the diaphragm gets destroyed from brake ckeaner

@@Mynextproject_74 i have a 89 with the 2.5 and it took me pulling the throttle body to figure it out. And i heard you say i just cleaned it out with brake cleaner i was like shit nooooo. 😆 so i learned no brake clean around the fuel components. At least diaphragms. Nice yj man cant wait to see how it ends up. 👍

I'm not a mechanic by trade and I always just changed fuel filters and brake pads sometimes a house every now and then. That worked for years but what I've had to get used to is all these cars and trucks I keep around have aged......The whole idea of changing fuel lines (soft and hard lines) is new to me.
I have Toyota trucks......I have to change the frames.....now what? I have to change the fuel line too?

Like others, I'm a bit confused that this is an 88. It looks like a 91-95. The 87-90 years had a different dash than yours such as the center gauge would be a clock and they all got carbs not fuel injection afaik. Maybe they told you the wrong date or they did a heck of a swap at some point with a newer YJ?

I know what you mean. Lots of things show as this is newer. It might be a pieced together deal or something. I really have to look into it more.

I was given a1990 Yj w/ a plow from my Uncle. The automatic shift linkage bracket is totally rusted. Can you please send a picture of yours so I know how and where it mounts to. Thanks
