    The only reference that comes to mind from "we're gonna need a softer insert" is "we're gonna need a bigger boat" from, of course, JAWS. As for the tires, I have no experience with them. What I can say is the reason I value your analysis is more for your interpretation of the FEEL and FEELING you get when running them even more than the numeric scores you assign. When you are (re)viewing a product you really like I can hear the genuine excitement and enthusiasm come through in your voice and words. To me, that is the factor that puts something over-the-top, regardless of manufacturer, make, model, compound, series, or whatever. I want to try and experience that same excitement and joy so that's what I end up buying. More power to you!

    In 2023 sorrca rules, 4.9 is a small class3 tire now. Max in class2 is 4.75 and minimum tire diameter in class3 is 4.76. A sub-5" class3 is probably what some folks are looking for. I could see going for the Trep over Flat Iron if you're running a longer wheelbase

Duratrax does ok on my course but not the best. Jconcepts is where it's at though as far as performance vs cost. Love the tire and servo testing videos!

    Im with ya, on the expense. I do love the pro x a ton! I want to try the tusk for sure and the holds. the thing I do like about the prolines is the scale looks. I get pretty unclose and tight in my shots so seeing the 1:1 brand is nice. I used to like the RC4wd pro x's too. out here the dirt is pretty wet and the rocks can be both smooth and jagged so the wider lug really helps with clearing and clawing for traction. I agree with you, they seem... ok... if you are going for that look but I feel like they are kind of in-between looks. that pretty friend vibe.. could be hot, but mostly pretty... lol

      This is the first Trepador that’s worked. I think the lug pattern just isn’t very good. Too tightly packed, maybe? Duratrax Approach is at least “Trepador inspired,” but with a lot more open space and that tire was great.

    I've really enjoyed seeing the pro-line options go up against the canyon standards in the last months. I wondered for so long, and now I have my answers on performance.
    I really don't get all the griping about the price. In the grand scheme of building a rig, whats 15$ difference between parts for something you like for a reason other than pure performance. Those decisions happen on a larger scale all the time. If pro-line charges 7 dollars more for a liscensed, USA made (are they still?) product with a premium look and feel, it doesen't bother me none. I chalk that up to personal preference.
    My jconcepts and Pro-line tires have both held up for years of crawling, and they mostly all work great.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 7 měsíci +4

      Because you're not getting anything for that additional 7 dollars. Licensing is nonsense, and I'm fully behind JConcepts method of "looks kinda like the 1:1 thing, but named something else" if it means it saves the consumer money. I've yet to meet a tire that had a bump in performance based on the licensed font on the sidewall. The same goes for bodies, where I think the mfrs. of the full-size should be happy for the advertising, instead of driving the cost of $1 in polycarbonate up to $60+.
      Pro-Line has no basis for that pricing other than their own determination that the market will bear it.

    Wouldn’t the rollover be more of a center of gravity thing? I mean take any truck and it’s got a tipping point no matter what tires you run. I feel like it did pretty good on the side hill and you’re docking the tire because of it.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před měsícem

      Tires can be, and generally are, directly impactful on the tendency of a rig to rollover-- especially abruptly. I have idea why so many people are coming to the (apparently) perceived aid of the G8 Trepador, but here we are. It's an absolutely decent tire, but even in "pure scale" tires, there's at least half a dozen tires that do it better. It's also 4.76", so it can't be run in SORRCA Class 2, meaning it's a Class 3 tire-- meaning someone in that class is going to be running something like LP Tusks, and no Trepador is going to stand a chance. You buy the Trepador for the look. I don't really see any other reason. It's sitting at 27th out of 35. If I gave the Trep two free bonus points, it would move to 18th. What's the point?

      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 7 měsíci

      I'll take a set of discontinued Deep Woods over anything from Banning. Because I don't want to pay that licensing premium for a tire with the performance of something that costs less. In terms of performance per $$, ProLine loses every contest. Is G8 better than X2S3? Dear god yes. Is it as good as Jconcepts Green or HB/HPI pink? Not even close. G8 is a tick better than the ol' Duratrax C3, and Duratrax was hawking tires at $22 a pair.
      So I would defend by saying that now, having tested most of the PL catalog against others, my feelings toward PL are more justified than ever.
      I am softening on the bodies. If ProLine is still making them (and who knows, really) then something changed. That bug body is hella nice.

    The motivator is replicating 1:1. I enjoy 1:1 rock crawling and most the time when seeing these tires 1:1 there intense and usually are found on nice 1:1 builds.
    If these tires are performing as seen here 90% prob buy and like. Now your SORCCA die hards will tear. But like you and me I could careless about rules, in this hobby.
    Fact is if your trying to pull the toughest lines out there you’ll pic a more worthy tire which IMO hardly look scale or other other lower costs line killer tires. There’s so many options out there it’s almost not even worth reviewing tires. Or foams. So many choices but really most tires all perform similar when having these compounds. And how many compounds are there.
    Also hard to review one of two tire compounds but same make size and mold. Also your the only one that can properly narrate tire/foam reviews for so long and still provide education and entertainment.

      They're the best Trep out there right now, but the Trep is still a mediocre tread pattern. There are plenty of tires with more consistent forward drive and maneuverability to back it up. Whatever score these got, that's what they deserved. The bottom line is that G8 is never going to be the best compound, and when paired to a less-than-optimal tread pattern, said tire is only going to do so well.

We get the true double-whammy with ProLine, where we have to pay for their name (for what?) and the licensing of whatever scale thing they’re hawking. ProLine has zero cachet as far as I’m concerned, as they don’t offer anything we can’t get elsewhere for less. Why do folks voluntarily pay more to get less, just because of the name on the sidewall? This applies to RC4WD as well, who make like 70 tires and only a handful of them are any good.

      Trepador is the worst of the tread patterns (in 1:1 as well) and while ProLine got the best showing of every Trep tested so far, still not great. Trep pattern is poor, and G8 ain't a world-beater. I didn't get into the line to love companies unconditionally, so forgive me for having something resembling expectations. I think these scored the lowest of every ProLine tire I've tested.
