    Today we start to install the rear triangulated 4 link suspension but it does not go as planned. Due to space limitations we are forced to switch to a parallel 4 link.

    I didn't want to go parallel and decided to go triangulated on my 1956 Chevy truck. I had to reverse the angle from top of diff to put the top links narrowed at the front on a new cross member and wide on the diff. Had to do this because the GM diff I used was cast iron, didn't want to weld to it.

      I would have liked the triangulated links but it all turned out well going parallel. There is plenty of room for the exhaust to go over the axle. I didn’t want to end the exhaust before the axle.

      @@machnikgarage I am planning on ending the exhaust in front of the rear wheels, so I get away with it. We are about at the same progress level with our trucks. I'm working on bedsides and wooden floor. I don't have the space so I'm doing half the truck at a time lol.

      I’ve got the space as long as I don’t fill it with something else… so basically I never have space. With a restoration project of this size I try not to work on to many different parts of the truck at once. To many parts half done quickly becomes overwhelming and that’s when projects stall out and sit.

      These projects always end up being more work than anticipated and this one is no exception. We’ve got a solid build plan and can’t wait to see the end result.

    Howdy, I have a 1957 GMC 100 and I too have the steel plate bed with the original wood bed but it's not so bad - yours was in worse shape. I just had to rebuild the Dana 45 axle and I fitted a rear gas tank. I too had the problem of too much stuff back there to route exhaust pipes out the back so I made side pipes. It looks cool and I can hook up my trailer without fumes gagging me. I have videos on this if you'd like to see. Just a few feet of flex and the exhaust problem is solved. Nice work on your part and it will be fun to see how it works out for you. Bobby

      I will check them out. I did get the exhaust run in another video. Turned out pretty slick.

      You’re doing pretty good. Sometimes it’s going a little bit backwards, before it can go forward:-) It’s good to be able to change plans during a build, happens when all the work is done by one man and no big office behind😂👍🏻💪🏻

    Who did you buy the kit from?

    • @machnikgarage
      @machnikgarage  Před 10 měsíci +1

      This was a just a cheap kit with no brand name off Amazon. When the rod ends wear out I can replace them with a better quality parts.

      @@machnikgarage thanks! Love the channel and your trucks! I have a couple 55-59 trucks that I’m hoping to get one of them brought into the shop this winter.
      Keep up the good work!
