  • Some turbos say whoooooshh and some say Stutututu, but how and why do they make these noises?
    In this episode I explain how turbos work and go over what makes a turbocharger go stutututu.. lol
    *I do not own any of the car footage, they are used for educational purposes*

    really great video but you forgot to mention the diffrences of the diffrent compressor surges. There are two types of compressor surge, the is one called closed throttle compressor surge and open throttle compressor surge. The diffrences is that the open throttle compressor surge is were the turbo makes to much boost for your engine, aka your engine is overwhelmed with the boost and it cant use it since it cant fire faster than its getting air, and that is were it is bad for your turbo. Your turbo tries to make more boost while they compressed air has no where to go than out of the turbo again, which creates to much stress for the turbo. So closed throttle compressor surge is not dangerous at all for your turbo since its not trying to feed more air to the engine so there is no stress

    Good video however I would add that you can still have the compressor surge "issue" if your not using the correct springs for you BOV. Also the only time compressor surge has really been shown to be harmful from what ive seen is if your on throttle and expirencing it.

  • @eddherring4972
    @eddherring4972 Před 5 měsíci

    Alternative to a dump valve is a recirculation valve. Instead of venting to atmosphere a recirculation valve vents the compressed air back into the engine intake it basically reuses the air and reduces the lag by boosting the air being drawn into the engine. The limiting factor here being the amount of air which can be recirculated. The downside being that it gives positive pressure in the rocker cover and over time can cause rocker cover gasket failure. An engine which uses a recirculation valve is not suitable to switch for a dump valve because the ECU is programmed to allow more fuel when recirculating and having a dump valve means the extra air is not there for the mix this can cause over fuelling engine damage over time and lag issues in the short term.

    Or alternatively, you can set it back on Recirculation. You won't get fancy fancy noises but the air will get recirculated back into your intake and won't cause a BOV jerk. It does on my CVT.
    But #Weliveforthesounds
    Something to take note, installing BOV on manuals will guarantee you a CEL. But usually people either just heck it or just clear the fault code regularly using BT OBD Reader.

    Just for reference the turbine is driven by gas and an impeller is what drives the gas. Basically, the comd side is an impeller and the hot side is the turbine or the impeller is powered by an outside force and a turbine is what powers the shaft it's on.

    • @MZopyrus
      @MZopyrus  Před 3 lety +6

      No I don't believe it's really harmful, a good turbo should be able to handle off throttle surge with no problem. However if surge happens while on throttle, it is bad, very bad.

    So, I don’t know a lot of cars just a little. When the throttle is stopped obviously air is “stuck” temporarily and it goes out a BoV however, when shifting during a “full send” other than re engaging the Trany does to account for extra “torque” during shift points? Might be an dumb Q lol.

    Thank You For Not Saying The Compressor Surge Is The Sound Of The Turbo Spinning Back Words XD. The Only Thing I Don't Agree With Is The BOV And It Being More Laggy Off On Throttle Then No BOV. From My Experience BOV Help Maintain Your Turbo Speed Better. When There's No BOV There Is Air Pushing Back Through The Compressor. I Believe This Slows Down Your Turbo Quicker Then If It Were Free Flowing Through A BOV. I've Daily Drove Without A BOV For Years And Decided To Try Them Out And I Noticed The Off On Throttle / Boost Spool Response Is Better With A BOV. However I Never Run A BOV Becasue I Love Compressor Surge Sound. I've Also Yet To Find A BOV That Actually Seals Perfectly When Shut (eBay at least) And I'm Not Spending Over 200 For One XD. Wastages... I Spend The Money haha.
