      I think the main problem is just the lack of information being passed around, we know that the doctors in Utah knew/found out what the problem was because they specialize in brain damage and stuff but the other doctors obviously didn’t have as much knowledge most likely because they don’t specialize or work in that type of thing.

So what would they talk about, she doesn't know them, or what they did together, she has no memory of them. They couldn't even go out for ice cream, because if her memory resets, then what, she wouldn't know them and could walk away, that's kind of risky. Traumatic Brain Injury. His short term memory resets every 5-15 minutes. If you mention my name he knows who that is but he no longer recognizes me as that person as we've aged. His injury was more severe. Mobility and motor control issues, seizures and he only speaks when prompted and with difficulty. I'm very happy for this young girls progress.

    0:30 “when I try to look back there’s nothing there” I have Parkinson’s and the neurological affectations were wild, I went from having superior autobiographic memory to not having any short term memory capabilities. Looking back on the time I spent I know I was really, really frustrated but that’s most of what I have about it. Like I know it happened, but details won’t come back to me about so much of it…
    Also 2:21 “it’s just basic science!” feels so real at this point. I saw so many different doctors over so many years and finally found someone who’s knowledgeable and knew which questions to ask, and I was only just diagnosed in December. Carbidopa-Levodopa has been phenomenal assistance and I still can’t believe how simple the solution seems now.
    Had honestly given it up, but now I am back to doing things I did in high school, like playing music (play contrabass and ukulele simultaneously while singing, and now also professional symphonic contrabass + symphonic composition.)
    Anyway sorry for the ramble. Science is just seriously so cool, the advancements in medical science and neurology and even just individuals’ knowledge and pushing of the envelope… are just so amazing.

      Your question makes people answer based on their general perspective on the people who surround them.
      Wh don’t have the details on why he fell (maybe someone dropped him) why he was surfing in the first place (maybe he was pressured by his friends) or his personality (he could care or be a “jerk” and not care)
      The only answer we can give is the one we make in our head, which in turn reflects our view point on people.

It bothers me she had to go 5 months like this and this place started helping her within 2weeks. How many people like her don't get their memory back because nobody tries hard enough to figure out what is going on?? We need better healthcare in this country it's ridiculous some of things people go through before they get better, if they do at all. • @adiarainfoster
      @adiarainfoster Před 4 lety +56

      yea, I wouldn't count on that. it seems like a nicer way to look at it up front. But when a person suddenly has something wrong with them, people don't deal very well. I lost all but two friends the year my disability suddenly got worse. One of those two friends left a few years later. he wasn't able to handle being around my disability any more and even blamed me for it. I've got one friend left. If you go to places where people with disabilities chat and compare stories like I have, you'll see that same trend over and over. People don't like anyone who isn't normal. If you don't fit into their idea of a happy, perfect little world then they don't want to be around you. it depresses them I guess. I'm happy with my one friend though. I can trust her, at least, when I know i can't trust anyone else to stick around. :)

    • @adiarainfoster
      @adiarainfoster Před 4 lety +4

      @@SergeantExtreme Hmm idk. Kind of I guess? I only learned about what ANTIFA is last year. I don't usually follow stuff like that. But they seem more like armed thugs to me. More like home grown terrorists who are just as likely to BEAT someone down if that person doesn't fit into their view of the world. If they haven't already, I won't be surprised to find they are killing people. But that's more extreme that what I was talking about on my initial comment.
      Most people don't want what they perceive to be "drama" or "extra baggage." It's a common theme in people's lives when they are living with disabilities. Healthy people don't know how to deal with people who aren't healthy. They don't know what to say. The feel awkward even being around you. Just looking at you brings them down. So in the end they go off and leave you behind. Not for anything you did personally, but because you aren't "normal" anymore.
      The websites I go to where disabled people share with each other how their disabilities work and how it is to live with them mostly see that same trend. One girl in England actually got beaten in the middle of a night club because she was in a wheelchair. It was on their news. The beating was an extreme example. Most people settle for giving you dirty looks and friends just decide to leave since you are now more trouble than you are worth. At least that last bit is how it feels to the ones being left behind. It's a way to make us feel less than human, though I doubt that's actually the intention. The decision to stop being friends with someone who becomes disabled has less to do with the disabled person and more to do with their own personal comfort.
