PLOT: In this animated feature, canine casino owner Charlie (Burt Reynolds) is killed by gambler Carface (Vic Tayback), but returns to Earth from heaven thanks to the powers of a magical, rewindable watch. Charlie sets out to take his revenge on Carface by means of an elaborate plan that involves an orphan girl, Anne-Marie. But as the plan progresses, Charlie discovers that Anne-Marie is being exploited by Carface. Charlie must decide whether to change his mission from one of revenge to one of rescue.

I love how Ann Marie tells Charlie off; "You sound just like Mr. Carface!"
Her face when she was calling him out.
Well she wasn't wrong Charlie took her from Carface's custody only to use her for money and read stories to her and kissed her in a negative way, also Charlie was going to make sweet Ann-Marie sleep in the front seat which would result in a sore back.

@@Mohico-San Carface did the same way to Anne-Marie use her for money and he didn’t let her go outside, blow smoke at her face when he comes down stairs to see who will win the rat races, he did feed her food, and god knows what kind of other awful things Carface was doing to Anne-Marie
@@ecantu2301 she had a bed and she was fed regularly. She wasnt let outside because Carface figured other sympathetic dogs would probably take her away, or authorities would discover her and remove her.
I dont think Carface did any major abuse to her.
Charlie's line "woop, too thin," and Itchy's line "too fat," never gets old.😆
The squirt wasn’t wrong when she said that Charlie was being like Carface. It’s true, Charlie was using the kid for his own gain. But he did feed Flo and her puppies so I’d give him a gold star for that so not that bad of a dog.
I mean, that’s part of what the movie’s about. Charlie starts off as selfish, but grows to care enough about her that he accepts damnation to save her life.
And he did end up caring about Ann Marie in the end.
@@animeotaku307 That's the problem. His character development wasn't done very well and has that generic liar revealed trope, saying that he doesn't care about Anne-Marie near the climax of the movie, so that wasn't believable.
@@ChelseatheCreativeFox-pc2xz Just because a trope has been done a ton before badly doesn’t mean that it can’t be done well.
@@animeotaku307 His character development wasn't done well. It only happened at the very end at the end of the movie just to say goodbye to the girl, never to be seen again. Disappointing.
Pick-pocketing must be how Charlie got put in the New Orleans Dog Pound when Carface had set him up.
Or maybe a murder.
A crime he didn’t commit
Maybe even a dog attack on a person. Possibly Carface had a thug that looked similar to Charlie attack someone.
Or Carface got scared about Charlie was getting close about his secret about Anne-Marie
Ann Marie is so cute she didn’t deserve to be conned by Charlie

The scene involving Charlie stealing a wallet is very similar to Oliver Twist as both Charlie and the Artful Dodger stealing from someone causes both Oliver and Ann Marie to be adopted by the robbed people.
That's a good point. I never thought of that.
I cannoit believe that Don Bluth never thought about making his own version of Oliver Twist since that story has one of his directors trademarks of orphans

I think her parents died because they were proud of Anne Marie able to talk to animals and people burned them except Anne Marie who escaped.
Probably good Charlie didn't ask her her backstory it would've emotionally broke Charlie.
