For those who don't understand the EXACT reason that Jean sacrificed herself lies within the Phoenix Force. She knew more and more that the Phoenix was going to unleash itself onto the world, and the ones she loved. She let go of the water to protect the X-men, her family, and the entire universe.
You’re saying Jean is self-aware. ❤
That's a flat out lie for this series. She died to protect them. The Phoenix said no. This is the second to last time Jean was Jean in the movies.
Scott: Jean! Come Back!
@@trevp5125????
@@susanstorm7910 what's the question?
Controlling the ship, protecting herself , communicating with them by prof X , preventing nightcrawler to teleport !
Dang! Isn’t that too powerful?
Always been the problem with Jean as a character. How do you create any real stakes when a mutant is unstoppable?
Too dumb as well. She only had to lift the aircraft and take it away from the water course where they could wait forever for the engines to start
@@celinreyes1983 lol , she already exerted too much energy by doing those things
Do you think she still energy to save herself? Lol
@Blast Brain she didn't have to do any of that from the very begining. As soon as they got inside the aircraft and realized the aircraft was malfunctioning, all she needed to do was to lift the plane and take it away from the upcoming water. Doing that it would take less than 1/100th of the energy required to block the water.
The weight of the jet is meaningless compared to the power of the water stream. The water would drag it like it is a piece of straw. Yet Jean blocked that water for several seconds. It would be a lot easier for Jean to move the jet around.
@@celinreyes1983 fax
She fixed the jet, controlled the jet, levitate the jet, STOP THE FUCKING WAVE FROM CRUSHING, Block Kurt's power and communicate with Professor X. At this time her power is limited by Professor X. Truly Mutan class 5.
Her powers weren't restrained anymore, that's why she started to glow. Restraints were removed to save everyone and she removed them.
she was no longer restrained, in fact she was more powerful than ever thanks to the phoenix force manifesting at that moment
@@l3ftie578 tbh Base Jean should be able to do all those things. Phoenix 's power is on greater scale.
@@moonlightelf591 just the flood itself would require soooooo much force to stop. Think about how much water that was, how heavy it is, the constant swelling pressure. Thousands and thousands of tons.
@@l3ftie578 oh yeah i forgot about the flood lol.
This Jean is so much better than Sophie's Jean in terms of acting and the way her powers are shown before she becomes Dark Phoenix.
all the actors are so good here. Xmen succeeded because it wasn't just a cheesy supernatural movie, we've seen those before. It had believable characters in a believable world.
Succeeded until The Last Stand and it's been declining rapidly though First Class was the shot in the arm it needed, it declined again. Need I remind you of Origins, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse bombing hard.
@@squallofthedai I agree it's been declining and I think its because they're starting to focus more on the cheesy "it's a supernatural / superhero" movie formula. I hate that little thing they do when they just add little stupid one liners everywhere like its a comedy movie or something. The movies are being carried by michael fassbender and james mcavoy. But I have to disagree on days of future past bombing. That was one of the best xmen movies, made a ton of money and had high reviews. Apocalypse definitely sucked, it fel cheesy
@@squallofthedai Days of Future Past is the best x-men movie and the highest grossing one. What are you talking about?

I always thought the ending was half ignorant but the acting from Hugh jackman and James marsden was spectacular. That’s what superhero movies today are missing. Even though they had a rivalry through love Wolverine still cared for the dude.
I never understood one thing about this movie, WHY didn’t Magneto rescue Charles from Cerebro ? Weren’t they friends?
@@matthewschwartz6607 Very simple, he wanted to use the professor to eliminate the humans and only mutants would remain. I think Magneto at that time was unaware that the shelter would be flooded, so it's not like he left him to die
@@jorgemontenegro6964 - Isn't that kind of extreme for Magneto, mass genocide on that scale?
@@jorgemontenegro6964 - Magneto put his hand on Charles's wheelchair, tapped it and said "GOODBYE, Charles!!". He then locked hm in the room. The tone of his voice and gesture made it pretty clear that he was leaving him there forever.
@@matthewschwartz6607he knew he had his X Men so he wouldn't stay there forever. Magneto didn't leave him to die.
Jean wasn't just racing against the water, she was racing against herself, knowing that she was too close to losing control of her powers and becoming a bigger danger than anything else. She was trying to kill herself at the end, to stop herself.
PHOENIX FORCE or become the worst power of DARK PHOENIX
She failed. Phoenix force engulfed her.
@@csguak well you are certainly quick to the draw, name characters that wouldn't be a slave to the Phoenix force if a girl with literal mental Powers couldn't hold it back .she ain't failed shit
None of that is true the only time she's made aware of dark Phoenix was in last stand, she wasn't facing against anything.
@@neonraindrop8357this X-men is older then the new one this is when she dies not when she’s full of life
The Jean Grey they knew and loved really did die that day. All that remained afterwards was the unstable Dark Phoenix (though the old Jean was briefly revived at one point).
All that was left of her were scraps, like a flag in a monsoon
Hugh Jackman and James Marsden did a great job in this scene.
Back then, I thought Scott was gonna kiss the Professor 🤣
😂😂😂why would you think that way
Stahp just stahp! 😆😆
What i loved the most about this scene was the way both Logan and Scott broke down together over such a shocking loss, they may not have liked each other very much but they both shared one mutual thing in common: they both cared deeply for Jean
I think Jean in this movie was confused and bothered by the fact she was evolving into the Phoenix and because she's overwhelmed, she thought she was a threat to her friends, the X-Men and the humanity. Thus, her decision to sacrifice herself.
Splits her power into holding the wave, lifting the jet, telepathic into Nightcrawler minds and professor minds, Jean is trully very strong by power and by mentally.
This scene made me a Xmen fan when I was a Kid
Simply amazing
Great cast
Me too 😂
Scott: Please 🙏 Don’t Do This!
Jean Grey is such a fantastic character and is incredibly powerful in the comics. She alone is one of the strongest telekinetics on the planet, but the Phoenix Force makes her one of the strongest beings in Marvel (depending on the comic). I really wish we had gotten more of that kinda thing from the later movies.
the scary part of this scene, is xavier realizes why he randomly wakes up in cyclops's bedroom when jean is away.
Lmao
*BARF*
Now we’re talkin jahaha
Good adaptation to what happened in the comic. Her being submerged under water, piloting to protect the others, the Phoenix flaring.
I always like when the Phoenix is just Jean's mutation. It highlights her struggle with herself. Also, it's an easier story to follow.
Its a shame we never saw a faithful adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga 🦅🔥🔥
Tried it twice ruined it Both times 3rd times the charm I guess I hold no hope tho
@@Amenomihashira I know right? Thats the Ultimate Sin.
Well the first shame is we didn't have a proper phoenix story. The other shame is the 2 "poor" (so Bad/sad) Dark phoenix movies...
Well, hope that MCU won't do the same mistake to treat this as a solo movie.🙏🏼
@@bruno83r05crom Well they have the Ultimate task to bring one of the most complex X-men stories. But bringing this story to the big screen its like adapting "War and Peace" of Tostoy.

James Marsden fantastic performance. The urgency and pain in his voice
Wow this is so heartbreaking james marsden so good in being dramatic and so is Hugh Jackman really good dramatic actors .
This is by far the best movie of the entire series.

After re-watching it, I always thought in the final moment before Jean died and xavier closed his eyes after they already broke their connection that he removed his psychic barriers to give her a chance to survive, which is why she woke up in last stand without them. But I guess that went no where, just like the origin of her phoenix powers. They set it up in the first movie and this one so that after magnetos machine was destroyed the energy enhanced her powers when she was seen gasping and affected. Then there was the line “you haven’t been the same, ever since Liberty island” then we dropped that explanation in the third movie and made her inherently powerful and crazy
Those barriers were broken down in the first x-men movie I believe.
I don’t think the machine would do anything to mutants unless they were operating the machine. It’s possible the whole liberty statement was made because after the fight she started displaying outbursts of power that only professor and magneto knew of. It’s possible that by using cerebro to locate rogue her inhibitors started breaking down.
I think what happened is while pushing wolverines claws against Magneto, she started to break down the psychic barriers. She had never pushed her power that far before, let alone against magneto.
“Unselfishness !!!”. (No other words to describe the scene !!!).
En esta escena todo me conmovió y como para darle el toque final el llanto desconsolado de Cyclops.. junto al "Ella se ha ido" de Wolverine tratando de entenderlo...
To clear up. Jean is a Telepath and Telekinetic. She can use both at the same time at ease. She is omega in Telepathy meaning that when she uses different techniques in telepathy like speaking through Charles it is considered unlimited without a struggle or no limitation on herself or will of her own mind tiring herself out. I also believe what was not shown here in energy form, but us who know her in the comics, she was likely forming a telekinetic shield around the plane and herself thus the reason Nightcrawler couldn't teleport out. Also, people saying Storm could have stop the water at ease. True, but Jean knew what was in her and to stop it from coming out, she sacrificed herself while saving her family and this was the moment.
Thank you ❤
The more I watch these X Men films and know how the story ends the more I make allowances to make the pieces fit together because it’s brilliant and I want them to. Childish…:.but totally true.
So painful and sad.

bryan singer was stupid enough to jump ship to direct superman returns, which flop badly at the box office anyway. if he stick to x3, we likely would have had a great dark phoenix saga based on the concept art that was revealed years ago.
If only she could have done this from inside the jet... Oh, wait.
Also, if only one of the mutants had a power that was particularly good at stopping water. Freezing it in place, you could say...(fully realized, Iceman could straight up have frozen that.)
Or what about a mutant that can teleport in and out in an instant, that would have just been perfect for this situation.
@@invictuz4803 he couldn't as Nightcrawler even in the comics says his teleportation powers carry him through various dimensions. So he must clearly see the location he's going in at all instances. Plus he took decades to mastery all aspects of that power. His secondary mutation allows him to blend in shadowy areas.

For those that keep saying that she should have did all that in the plane, you have to remember she knew the Dark Phoenix would take over her, making her lose herself. She was willimg to die to protect her friends future, especially Cyclops'. Its sad that the same person Cyclops loved killed him due to her turning evil. She really tried to save them the troubles.
This should have been Scotts moment not Logan who has known Jean all of two minutes.
Opening To X-Men 2: United 2003 DVD
This scene☺😍
Every time I see this clip, and the one where the Phoenix flies over the lake, I slap my hand on my forehead, thinking how incredible it would have been if Singer had continued directing.
Mike Dougherty, co-writer of X-Men 2, gave an interview some years ago and talked about what their plans were for X3:
"The idea - you open up with Alkali Lake, but it's completely barren and dried up, and bright lights in the sky accompany these odd reports of strange phenomena worldwide. So basically, you found out was that Phoenix was going round the world taking things into her own hands and that she had returned as a god."
"The one idea that I loved, that I really wanted to do, was that Cyclops would build the Danger Room. Cyclops felt guilty, and he felt that because the X-Men were too weak, they weren't strong enough, they weren't fast enough, that was why Jean died. If they were a little bit better at fighting, then she might still be alive. It was all about this guilt he had about her death, and so he built the Danger Room to train them to be better. But in the end, it was about him being unable to let go of her, so that caused all the chaos and disruption in the movie. But in the end, it's about him letting her go."
As merely a concept, this is already so much better than what happened in X3, where the version of the Phoenix we get doesn't even relate to the one in X2 (visually or mutation-wise). I tend to forget that X3 happened. Purposely. 😅 I'm glad we got DOFP's last scene to emulate a certain closure.
They should let the Phonix storyline rest, but I hope that someday, eventually, the MCU can explore that and make the story justice. It still is, to this day, one of the strongest X-Men storylines.
00:20 the only time Cyclops was a leader in the fox movies
The most powerful energy, telepathy and telekinetic in both, could move jet and block flood in same time just with mind power
2:13 DON’T YOU SAY THAT!!!
James Marsden had to wear platform shoes to be under 6 feet tall because his character Cyclops is supposed to be 6'3" in the comics
Not to mention, Famke Janssen is like 6 ft tall, as she not only is Dutch (Dutch women are on average among the tallest women on earth), but she was a former fashion model. So she would dwarf James Marsden, who is 5 10.
@@lissandrafreljord7913 I know

Hugh Jackman should've acted on his knees then.
Point being, trying to be "height accurate" with characters like that is just either something you do before you hire the actors, or something you brush completely.
Telepathic scenes in x2 are well executed tgey almost palpable
And then she comes back integrated to one of the most powerful entities of the Marvel Universe to be kild by Wolverine...

I know jean was afraid of her powers and that is what she believed she had to end her life but c'mon they could have had Ororo flick her wrist and send that water on it's way or flash freeze it. Could bring up that maybe jean is trying to stop her from doing so
Isn't Bobby Drake in the jet? Between them all, it shouldn't have been too difficult.
Or Nightcrawler could have teleported her inside the jet when it reached certain distance from the water
