There is an actual bright side to having a fake round or bar, as long as it is only a couple that you end up getting. It looked different than what I bought from APMEX- it had weird shoulder lines, and oversized figure taking most of the space of front bar, and the fingers were not smooth/looked stiff. I bought it two years ago and seller kept denying it. I just kept it for educational purposes. The color was ok, but the way the figure. Was imprinted I got more doubtful as I got more lady fortuna from legitnsources later on.

I'm very new to silver. I just received my first silver coins in the mail. I'm just starting to learn the different ways to test silver, and I don't see the point of the specific gravity test, unless the piece you're testing has an odd shape. In your video you show two pieces of silver that look very similar. If one of the two pieces has a lower specific gravity, aren't you just saying that it has a lower density? That means if you measure the piece with a caliper, it should be larger than the other, correct? If that's all you have to do, why bother submerging the piece in water? Just measure the height, width, and thickness, and make sure they are correct. There is another thing that I find very confusing: If I'm trying to create a counterfeit, the first thing I will attempt to do is to mimic the density of the metal. In the case of gold, I can use tungsten because it has almost the same density as gold. But in the case of silver, is it not easy to simply take a cheap metal with a lower density and a cheap metal with a higher density and create an alloy with the correct density? It doesn't seem hard to create a counterfeit with the right density so it seems this test will only catch very poorly made counterfeits.

What did they use instead of silver? And how was it faked more cheaply than the real thing for the faker to make a profit? And how do coin shops verify? What if you tried to sell that to a dealer? Would the dealer pull out a glass of water? So many questions.
