    After selling all my F mount lenses and repurchasing them with Z mount lenses, I feel I’ve helped Nikon reach the 120 million lenses sold. You’re welcome Nikon. Ha…

    • @thomaschamberlin2485
      @thomaschamberlin2485 Před měsícem +1

      And selling the old lenses is pointless at $50-$300 each.

      Surely it would have been more cost effective to purchase a FTZ adapter. I hear that some F lenses work great if not better on the Z mount camera.

    • @patrickmcmahon818
      @patrickmcmahon818 Před měsícem

      @@raypowell6783 That could very well be the case, I was using the FTZ adapter on my Z6 and they worked very well. However, I did notice that my Z6 kit lens, 24-70 f4, seemed to have a higher quantity of sharper images than the f mounts. Course I’m older so some of the misses can be attributed to age more than the lens… ha! So when I bought my Z9 I decided to switch over all my lenses. I take portraits of special needs children and infants (they move fast) with a shallow depth of field so I need lenses that are fast and tack sharp. I personally have seen a much higher percentage of usable images with the Z mount lenses. They are fast, quiet and sharp.

    If choosing between the Sony and the Fuji, I would go with the Fuji. Thanks for all of the current news!! 🙂

    Fuji GFX is very exciting news. If I wasn't already invested in Nikon, didn't shoot sports as well as landscapes, and didn't shoot so much video... I'd consider it over a Z9. The Z9 still wins for me because of multiple use cases. Well done Fuji. Thanks for the updates Matt.

    I think the Viltrox 85mm for Z mount was always the "version II". First they released the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 (ver. I) only for Sony and Fuji, then they released the (ver. II), with the main difference that it was much lighter (629 vs. 492g for Fuji X lens). Then they released the lens for other mounts, like Nikon Z ... based on the ver. II of the lens.

    I totally agree with your AI opinions. First, I think you can always tell when the back ground was manipulated to be out of focus in post. Also, it does not take a lot of money to purchase a lens that does great out of focus backgrounds. Example: I have the inexpensive Nikon 85 F1.8 G lens, a lot of people said that lens has a lot of issues and that is “crap” however if you know how to work around its shortfalls the images you can take with it are amazing!! Anyway, appreciate your content Matt!

    Cheers, Matt, great vid and much appreciated.
    I didn't get the Z28mm-400mm in the end as I opted to upgrade my f-mount 200mm-500mm 5.6 to the new Z180mm-600mm 5.6-6.3.
    I adore the 200-500 and have so much fun with it. It serves me well and I'll never get rid of it. I seriously love the new 180-600 though, a massive improvement to the old 200-500 workhorse.
    Internal zoom, great VR, smooth motor, lighter, sharp, 180 to 600 focal lengths in a quarter turn, weather sealed, what's not to like for the price point of less than 2 grand?
    I chose not to get the 28-400 because it made 2 of my owned z lenses redundant so upgraded my birding set up instead. The 180-600 marries up beautifully with the gorgeous Zf.
    I'm in love with my Zf camera, I still enjoy my trusty Z50's and use my Z6 for macro photography with the excellent Laowa 90mm f2.8 permanently attached to it and a Godox mfr-76 ring flash to the lens too.
    Anyway I doth waffle so thanks again for your superb video, please keep up the great work.
    I love your enthusiasm, it's very infectious, although you make me want to spend thousands of pounds, hahaha. 😂
    Oh, and as for editing my work I hate using block profiles and edit my photos individually. It's a feeling thing for me, how I'm feeling about an image on the day I'm editing. Mood and creativity are connected and it can't be done super speedy by profiles.
    As for AI bokeh, hmmm, I definitely prefer to work for my bokeh out in the field and again let my mood and creativity become one down the camera lens.
    I'd also go down the Fujifilm route, I'd be interested to see what 100MP+ would feel like, although I find 24 MP to be perfectly adequate for my needs, more natural too.
    Oh hell, I waffled on again.
    Bye.
    👍

    My thoughts on AI and other post production editing work. As a intermediate skilled photographer, I still struggle with things like exposure and noise and make mistakes. For these, I rely on LR and to a lesser extent PS and Denoise. However I think the mindset of " I'll just shoot the picture and fix it in post" lowers the bar as a photographer. I really try to get it right in camera and sometimes I do. I think there are two distinct interest at play here, one being photography and one is digital arts. A year or two ago, I remember an article about how can we be assured that the photo is actually of the real subject and not digitally reconstructed which may come into play when a photo is used in court. Is it real or is it Memorex?

    My 7 year old computer and NAS drive don’t approve me buying a fujifilm 100 megapixel sensor 😂 I am super interested in picking up the viltrox 16mm though. Can’t go wrong there.
    Also both the GFX100sII and Sony A9iii are so niche you are nearly always better off with picking up a Nikon Z8❤. Just the best value for money from any brand.
    I would never do AI blurry shot, as I prefer to have just the image as I’ve shot it. I am ok with removing minor distractions in photos to get a better result. Not major, but minor.

    Fuji is doing the best financially of all the brands. Therefore you will see a lot more investment and new ideas from them. The gfx will be flesh out very quickly over next few years and definitely more lens coming out on their apsc system too. Plus many new camera designs, it’ll be great.

    A fullframe sensor is 36mm by 24mm for 864 square mm. Fujifilm medium format sensors are 43.8mm by 32.9mm, 1,441 square millimeters. Thats around 70% more surface area, not 20%

      Thank you. How much larger is the diameter of the lens, as that is what I was referring to. As in how does the larger sensor effect the objects we handle :)

    Hello Matt, I try the Fuji and got the Hasselblad X1D and X2D both are amazing cameras. The X2D is so good. I think I now only have one more lens to get that 135mm + conveter. That will be later this year if I get some good news for the Hospital or.. So good to hear your thoughts.

    I hate to rain on the parade (bearing in mind what happened to a certain PM a couple of days ago) but Thom Hogan pointed out “By way of comparison, Canon hit the 120 million lens mark in August 2016.”

    Regarding the background blur if you start with a photo with some nice blur and want to add some with the software it works better than if you try to do the blur completely in software. Sometimes the software will do goofy things in choosing the transition between foreground/background. If you give it an image that already has sharp foreground object(s) and a blurred background it can more easily spot the correct areas and you can judiciously add a little more blur. That's what it's seeming like to me so far anyway. I agree with the fears of AI ruining photography in the future. At first the technology will be fun and helpful. Then people will get lazy and it will take over. Other hobbies have suffered this fate already. It's human nature to let this happen. Among friends we can still tell each other whether we've done "real" photography or not. In the professional or competitive world it's going to be a huge problem.

  • @glennn.3464
    @glennn.3464 Před měsícem

    Yes, I agree with you 100% that the camera and the person behind it engaging themselves in the process of capturing images is what photography and being a photographer is all about. Once you create the same things only in post you become more of a digital artist or digital creator and not a photographer.
    With that being said, if someone is generating images for their own use, that’s fine, generate and alter them however you wish until you’re happy with the result. But if you’re a professional photographer making a living off your craft and you are selling those images or using them as part of your portfolio, I would consider it a form of fraud. It’s like selling a counterfeit product.
    So, for personal use, fine, do whatever makes you happy. Professionally though, unless it’s being disclosed up front that a particular image has been created and/or extensively modified in post via AI, you should not be saying or implying you "captured" it and only did minor color, distortion, exposure, contrast, etc. edits to bring the captured image closer to the reality that was experienced.
    I also believe we need to have uneditable data embedded into the original file that can be easily read to show if an image started out as AI or had elements added or removed using some form of AI. Maybe a way to embed the original file into the saved file anytime AI has been used as part of the workflow so at least a lower resolution original that can be retrieved to compare to the edited AI altered image that gets saved.

    Stop being deep Matt 🙂 One could argue RAW vs JPEG, AI vs Creative.. for me post is in some respects no different to the tweaking one did in the darkroom, or that lost art of airbrushing 🙂 AI is just another tool in the kit bag. Great bunch of updates looking forward to the next edition.

    I have a X100VI on pre-order. The X-T50 is priced too high to be an alternative. Once you buy a lens for it, especially if you buy a lens equivalent to the f2 X100VI lens, you are several hundred dollars more. Why did they increase the price/value by $400 over the previous generation? They kind of defeated the prupose of the camera and put it in direct competition with better cameras, like the A7cii.

    Not sure if that channel (I believe it may have been someone with the initials TH) was using it within DJI’s stated operational parameters or not. If it was outside those limits then it wouldn’t have been a fair negative critique. But if it was being operated within DJI’s stated limits it would have been a fair review despite the harsh environment. I’m not sure so I would have to try and find out. I may even watch that video again to see it mentioned the temp and altitude it was being used in and if it’s within DJI’s specified environmental limits or not.
