An unlikely friendship between white cop, black teen

- When Officer Kirk Keffer spotted a solitary figure walking through an industrial section of Benicia, Calif. late one night, he offered the young man, Jourdan Duncan, a ride. Their meeting would prove consequential to them both. Steve Hartman reports
How is this an unlikely friendship? This is why we are divided!
You are right
Agreed
ITS UNLIKELY BECAUSE OF THE AGE DIFFERENCE. QUIT PLAYING COLORS. SO LAME AND OLD. THE COP JUST BRIDGED THE DIVIDE YOU SPEAK OF. YOU.....ARE THE PROBLEM.
Exactly
@@diggitydankenstein3624 He didn't say anything about color...
Wtf do they mean “unlikely” friendship. Wtf is wrong with these people.
I mean even tho it’s messed up it’s unlikely that a black teen would be friends with a white cop
People need to label, makes them feel better I think. we still have a long way to go
Simply an 18 year old male and a 30+ year old male working a full time job seeing a kid walk home and becoming friends. Simple as that, the age difference and unlikely of them meeting
Because of the fact that cops and colored people have a tumultuous relationship....i think. We are more likely to see videos of cops killing blacks than co-existing in a good way
everyone assuming its unlikely because they are black and white.
have you stepped aside from the evil principles of todays world and even for a second realize that it might just be unlikely for the simplest of reasons, excluding race?
maybe its just unlikely because you dont see that many people become friends with a cop to the point of riding in the police car with them.
its pretty ironic when the comments say "a black and white friendship isnt unlikely and its racist" when you even made that assumption that it mustve been unlikely for that reason..
jesus.
Should not be labeled “unlikely” friendship. A wholesome story nonetheless.
This is why racism exists. We can’t jus except interracial relationships. People call it unlikely because people don’t think to befriend cops.
U have to admit this isn't about race or anything it is unlikely for a cop to befriend a random teen in the middle of the night
Saif Malik Then why include race in the title? The fact that they think it's unlikely for a black person and a white person to become friends is strange.
It's not the color that makes it unlikely. I mean imagine making friends with your uber driver. You wouldn't expect that, but that's kinda what just happened here.
Spot on
"Unlikely"
No wonder why america is still divided smh
Ikr🤦♂️😔
I think the unlikely 'difference' is their ages
@@trevorjames7490 nah if it was the age the title will prolly be unlikely friendship between *cops age* and *the guy age*
Or something
Cmon m8 me and the other dude already commented that
@@trevorjames7490 no stop denying the obvious thing, an occupation and race was mentioned no age was mentioned in the title
They raised $38,000 for him to become a cop. He better make them proud.
He should just use the money and go to college with it. Forget about being a cop.
I think no matter what he ends up doing the officer will be proud. That young man has the drive to succeed and be can do anything!
@@seanewing845 college is useless. Trade school is where it's at. Also if he wishes to become a police officer that's a goal worthy of praise. Better than getting a gender studies degree.
He’ll make them proud. That young man is a stand out. He’ll be good at whatever he does.
With such a role model why would he not want to become a cop?
For some reason I imagine MLK watching this with tears streaming saying “this is my dream...” to himself. So touching.
Not tears...just a smile
This made me cry
Bro... 😭😭
I read this way too quickly and switch the "so" to "while"
I had stopped crying, then this comment made me cry harder than I was before! Such respect and admiration for Dr. MLK. We’ve come so so far but have so far to go. 💜
the media is the worst just look at the headline "unlikely friendship"
@I-YELL- A-LOT Why is that funny?
It's unlikely because statistics.
well the facts and statistics say this sort of encounter and experience in the USA is very unlikely. Don't be hating the messenger.
The proper response would be..okay. So now how do we make this sort of police experience more likely and frequent?
It’s because black people hate the police
They had to add “white” and “black” into the title 🤔
That caught my eye right away as well, the people who write this irritate me!

I don’t like this title. Smh.
Why not? It's unlikely because you don't see this everyday
Sopamarucha They included race in the title, they definitely think that the race makes it unlikely in some way.
Me either!
Sopamarucha Wym? I see black people and white people friends everyday. How is this news?
I agree, though I think it's because of all this stuff saying "White cops just shoot us for being black" Which is not true at all.

I was selling cocain and the train ran down on me . The Train is a caravan of police . I ran and threw what I had . The officers caught me and asked what I threw so I told him . After finding it he asked why I ran . I said no disrespect but all I could think was tomorrow was my nephew first Christmas . My brother was incarcerated so I’m holding it down till he get out . I knew I was going to jail . No doubt in my mind . He was white too , and he told me Merry Christmas this ya Lucky day . I’m thinking this bs but he handed me my money back and took the drugs and told me to go home . Had he arrested me I would have still been in jail . I have a family now and I’ll see to it my kids don’t be in that situation . Officers can be looked at like firemen if they respect the community . Where I’m from we love firefighters cause black or white their gonna do their best to save you . To any officer reading this please try . Thanks

The story is great but whats up with the title?
"An 'unlikely' friendship between white cop, black teen?".......
..... This is two good humans showing love. Not two species that never usually interact or something insane lol
BCuda2010 I know right?! It really annoyed me, Looking for a comment like this to see if I should say it myself
I was shocked at the mention of colour, people should stop using this kind of speech, you are talking about people, it should be cop and teen...just that...
Exactly, humans are humans, we need to stop with dividing by race.
Here in Africa is normal,we don't identify a person by race or skin but by characters,,,, God bless that cop,, u have space in heaven
right??? I was thinking the same thing
Media should be promoting stories like this one and not twisting stories and stirring dramas to make it worse.
This is also part of the problem. Jus look at the title
The media should just report facts. We have movies, sports etc... to keep us entertained. I never understood why a news media would worry about ratings. I miss the Tom Brokaw 7PM news feed
If they start showing these kind of things then how will they be able to control and manipulate the people 😏
What a amazing story, I salute you officer for simply taking time out your day to help this young man and go over and beyond.

I don’t see anything “unlikely” with their relationship ?
Besides that it's a cop and civilian I don't see why it's so unlikely.
Same reason why your unlikely to win the lotto, unlikely to get hit by lightning, unlikely to die in a plane crash and if the man wasn’t walking home at that time and if that officer wasn’t driving that route at that time it’s probably unlikely that relationship would have of formed. The proverbial one in a million.
@@jklondo4158 JK's right, they clickbaited the race thing here, but the most unlikely thing is THIS officer running into such a kid and learning all about him, it could have been an officer that would left him with a warning not to walk on the street, an officer who would have given him a ride but not listen to the story and buy him a car, a bike...The butterfly effect man, it's fascinating
@@trey2grimeyy-topic659 they mean the age difference

How can people want to get rid of something that has brought about so many wholesome stories? It makes no sense to me.
@ً A man has the right to fight back for his life and freedom of mind .
It shouldn’t be labeled as unlikely, it’s just as likely as any other friendship. And before anyone would say they meant age, they how he is a cop (stereotypically racist)and also specifically mentions their race in the title. If the idea was the age it would have been stated
It's unlikely that a cop drives through a dark area where he never sees anyone, and the ONE time he sees someone there, a hooded person. (Sounds kinda dark, mysterious, maybe scary place to be in the middle of the night)
So he stops, he meets this guy that actually becomes a good friend of him, a person to trust and believe in. (That is the unlikely part.. so it had nothing to do with ethnics)
If you don't think of it like some snowflake generation sissies, you would find that its a clever title because its kind of mirroring text Black/white and Cop/Teen. the Black darkness is objectively the opposite of white light, no matter if you believe in different races or not, this is true. Then cop and teens often tend to not go together like friends, its unlikely. I think if you don't immediately say something is racist, you can twist anything to be racist if you try to.
Kris tian I highly doubt the title is meant to be that philosophical
When the cop said "he's mine" my heart melted everyone isn't bad yes we have to raise our children for the what if but let's also raise them to know that every cop or person different from you is not a threat
